Used 2022 Toyota Sequoia for Sale nearChicago, IL

Is the 2022 Toyota Sequoia a good car?

Yes — the 2022 Toyota Sequoia earns a 5/5 user rating and a 7.3/10 expert rating. The model scores 8/10 across Performance, Form and function, and Cost effectiveness.

It fits you best if you want a classic body-on-frame, three-row, full-size SUV with a truck-like foundation rather than a more carlike crossover. The Sequoia also brings plenty of cargo space and standard advanced safety features, but you give up modern polish in exchange for that traditional setup.

The main trade-offs are poor fuel economy and outdated technology, along with dated interior styling. If you value durability and utility more than a fresh cabin or cutting-edge tech, it makes sense.

Good and great deals account for 35.5% of listings, which suggests there are still worthwhile opportunities if you shop carefully.

Is the 2022 Toyota Sequoia reliable?

Owners rate it 5/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

The Sequoia’s 5.7-liter V8 and six-speed automatic are described as having an excellent reputation for durability and reliability, and the SUV’s body-on-frame construction supports its long-haul toughness. Toyota also emphasizes durability and longevity in its cost-effectiveness commentary.

That said, you should still expect the usual used-SUV ownership risks tied to age, mileage, and prior use, so a careful inspection matters.

What should I look for when buying a used 2022 Toyota Sequoia?

Accident-free inventory is solid at 87% — always verify the vehicle history report.

You should still check the report closely, because a clean listing percentage does not replace a proper history review. Prioritize a pre-purchase inspection that focuses on wear items, signs of heavy family or towing use, and the condition of the cabin and exterior trim. Because this is an older design, condition matters as much as mileage.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The base SR5 gives you the Sequoia’s core truck-like character, while higher trims add more equipment and visual polish. The Nightshade Special Edition is based on the Limited and adds darkened exterior trim and black-painted 20-inch wheels.
• Powertrain: You get one powertrain: a 5.7-liter i-Force V8 with 381 horsepower and a six-speed automatic. It is tuned for durability and towing strength rather than fuel savings.
• Safety package: Toyota Safety Sense P includes pre-collision system with pedestrian detection, adaptive cruise control, lane-departure alert, and automatic high beams. Blind-spot monitor with rear cross-traffic alert is standard, and the base safety suite is strong.
• Infotainment: The Sequoia uses a 7-inch touchscreen, standard Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, WiFi connectivity, and SiriusXM satellite radio. Limited adds navigation and a 12-speaker audio system, while a premium package adds native navigation, 14 JBL speakers, a subwoofer, and an amplifier.
• Fuel efficiency: The Sequoia is rated at 13 mpg city and 17 mpg highway in RWD form, and 13 mpg city and 17 mpg highway in 4WD form.

Which 2022 Toyota Sequoia trim should I buy?

The 2022 Toyota Sequoia is offered in 6 trim levels: SR5, TRD Sport, TRD Pro, Limited, Platinum, and Nightshade Special Edition.

Here's the short version:

• SR5: This is the entry point, so it makes sense if you want the Sequoia’s core space, V8 power, and standard safety equipment without paying for extras you may not need.
• TRD Sport: Choose this if you want a more appearance- and road-focused step up from the base model while staying within the standard Sequoia formula.
• TRD Pro: This is the off-road-oriented choice, and it comes standard with four-wheel drive and special suspension tuning.
• Limited: This is the best-value trim for many shoppers because it adds meaningful comfort and tech upgrades, including navigation and a 12-speaker audio system.
• Nightshade Special Edition: Pick this if you want the Limited’s equipment with darker exterior styling and blacked-out wheels.
• Platinum: This is the top trim, so it suits you if you want the most upscale Sequoia experience and are willing to pay for it.

Toyota Safety Sense P and blind-spot monitoring are standard across the lineup.

Is the 2022 Toyota Sequoia safe?

The Toyota Sequoia does not have released crash-test ratings from NHTSA or IIHS.

Should I buy a 2022 Toyota Sequoia or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2022 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2022 if:

• 35.5% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Accident-free inventory is solid at 87% — always verify the vehicle history report.
• Owners rate it 5/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• It keeps the traditional body-on-frame layout, V8 power, and standard advanced safety features.

Consider the 2021 if:

• It offers a similarly roomy, truck-like SUV with standard V8 power.

Consider the 2023 if:

• It brings a full redesign with a more advanced tech setup and a standard hybrid powertrain.

The bottom line: If you want the old-school Sequoia formula, the 2022 is the one to target. If price matters most, the 2021 keeps the same basic appeal, while the 2023 is the better path if you want a newer design and more modern technology.
