How much does the 2022 Toyota Highlander Hybrid cost?

There are 1,019 listings available, which suggests you have a workable amount of inventory to compare.

Is the 2022 Toyota Highlander Hybrid a good car?

Yes — you’re looking at a 4.8/5 user-rated SUV with a 6/10 expert rating. The standout strength is Cost effectiveness at 8/10.

The 2022 Toyota Highlander Hybrid is built around efficiency and value rather than flash, and that lines up with its practical three-row SUV mission. It’s described as comfortable and an excellent value for money, which makes it appealing if you want family-friendly utility without paying for a more upscale alternative.

The trade-offs are clear: it’s fairly pedestrian to drive, not especially sporty, and its styling and interior materials are less impressive than some rivals. Even so, those compromises may be easy to accept if your priority is a sensible hybrid SUV with broad everyday appeal.

Good and great deals account for 37.2% of listings, which gives you some room to shop selectively.

Is the 2022 Toyota Highlander Hybrid reliable?

Owners rate it 4.8/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

The Highlander Hybrid is framed as a practical, efficiency-first family SUV, and that kind of straightforward mission usually helps ownership feel predictable. Its hybrid powertrain is described as smooth enough for daily use, and the cabin is tuned more for comfort than drama.

The performance notes also point to a quiet highway ride and a powertrain that behaves calmly in normal driving, which supports the sense that it’s built for routine use rather than constant attention. The cost-effectiveness angle is reinforced by the hybrid’s fuel-saving advantage, and that can make ownership feel easier to live with over time.

For used buyers, the main long-term risk is less about complexity than about finding one that has been maintained well and hasn’t been worn down by family use.

What should I look for when buying a used 2022 Toyota Highlander Hybrid?

Accident-free inventory is solid at 81.6% — always verify the vehicle history report.

You should still check the vehicle history report carefully, even when the market looks clean overall. Prioritize a pre-purchase inspection that focuses on interior wear, trim condition, and how well the hybrid system and driver-assistance features operate in real-world use.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The base setup is more modest, while higher trims add more upscale touches; the top trims are where you get genuine leather, and the lower trims miss out on some of the nicer materials and equipment.
• Powertrain: You’re shopping a 2.5-liter four-cylinder hybrid with 243 horsepower, a CVT, standard FWD, and available AWD through a supplemental rear electric motor.
• Safety package: Standard equipment includes adaptive cruise control, automatic emergency braking, lane-keep assist, a blind-spot monitor, traffic-sign recognition, and automatic high beams. A surround-view camera system and adaptive headlights are reserved for the top Platinum trim.
• Infotainment: An 8-inch touchscreen is standard, a 12.3-inch screen is available only on the top two trims, and Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and Amazon Alexa are included on all trims.
• Fuel efficiency: The FWD Hybrid is estimated at 36 mpg in combined city/highway driving, and the hybrid setup is positioned as the model’s main efficiency advantage.

Which 2022 Toyota Highlander Hybrid trim should I buy?

The 2022 Toyota Highlander Hybrid is offered in 4 trim levels: LE, XLE, Limited, Platinum.

Here's the short version:

• LE: This is the entry point, and it gives you the core hybrid efficiency story at the lowest price. It’s the trim to consider if you want the Highlander Hybrid’s main strengths without paying for extras you may not need.
• XLE: This is the best-value trim. It hits the sweet spot for budget-minded shoppers by adding more comfort and convenience while staying aligned with the model’s value-first mission.
• Limited: This is the trim to choose if you want a more upscale feel. It adds genuine leather and other niceties that make sense if your budget stretches beyond the value-focused middle of the lineup.
• Platinum: This is the top trim, and it’s the one to look at if you want the most equipment. It’s also where you get the surround-view camera system and adaptive headlights.

Safety-package note: the surround-view camera system and adaptive headlights are only offered in the top Platinum trim.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2022 Toyota Highlander Hybrid?

This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop with some leverage if you’re patient.

• Deal availability: 37.2% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 1,019 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 3.42% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 81.6% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $34,839, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2022 Toyota Highlander Hybrid's resale value?

The current average of $35,450 sits slightly below last year's $36,704.

That softer pricing suggests the market has eased a bit, which can help you buy at a more favorable point in the cycle. For a future seller, that also means resale performance may depend more on condition, mileage, and trim than on broad market momentum alone.

Because the model is positioned around efficiency and value, well-kept examples should continue to attract practical shoppers. Strong demand for fuel-saving family SUVs can help support pricing, especially for cleaner listings with desirable equipment.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.8/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2022 Toyota Highlander Hybrid safe?

The 2022 Toyota Highlander Hybrid earns five-star ratings overall from NHTSA, with four-star ratings for frontal collision and rollover protection.

It earns a 7/10 safety score from our experts.

Standard safety equipment includes adaptive cruise control, automatic emergency braking, lane-keep assist, a blind-spot monitor, traffic-sign recognition, and automatic high beams. A surround-view camera system and adaptive headlights are only offered in the top Platinum trim.

The main caveat is that some of the driver-assistance systems can feel a little overactive or poorly tuned in everyday use, especially the adaptive cruise control and lane-keep assist.

Should I buy a 2022 Toyota Highlander Hybrid or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2022 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2022 if:

• 37.2% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Accident-free inventory is solid at 81.6% — always verify the vehicle history report.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 3.42% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.8/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• It emphasizes efficiency and value over flash, which suits practical three-row SUV shoppers.

Consider the 2021 if:

• At $32,939, the 2021 costs less than the current year's $35,450 average.
• It adds a sporty XSE trim and upgraded safety features.

Consider the 2023 if:

• At $39,204, the 2023 costs more than the current year's $35,450 average.
• It brings a quiet cabin, standard advanced safety features, and strong safety ratings.

The bottom line: You should lean toward the 2022 if you want the best balance of current pricing, strong satisfaction, and efficient family-hauling utility. If you’re especially price-sensitive, the 2021 is the better value play; if you want a newer-year alternative with a stronger safety-and-comfort pitch, the 2023 is worth a look.
