How much does the 2022 Toyota GR86 cost?

Prices are up 1.17% year-over-year — a sign of continued demand for this model year.

There are 321 listings available, which gives you a modest amount of inventory to compare.

Is the 2022 Toyota GR86 a good car?

Yes — the 2022 Toyota GR86 earns a 4.9/5 user rating and a 7.7/10 expert rating. The model scores 9/10 across Performance and Cost effectiveness.

Owners consistently praise the car’s strong performance, fun factor, good handling, and stylish design. They also call out the nice interior and the car’s overall enjoyment behind the wheel.

The trade-offs are clear: the back seat is cramped, and some buyers will miss the safety equipment offered by rivals. That said, the GR86’s small rear-wheel-drive sports-car layout is aimed at drivers who care more about engagement than passenger space.

With 28.3% of listings marked as good or great deals, the market still offers some attractive value opportunities.

Is the 2022 Toyota GR86 reliable?

Owners rate it 4.9/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

Owner feedback points to a car that feels enjoyable and dependable over time, with strong performance and good handling reinforcing that impression. The expert review also describes the GR86 as a car that delivers on what it was designed to do, with a torquier engine and chassis upgrades that improve the driving experience.

Toyota’s free scheduled maintenance for the first two years or 25,000 miles adds a useful ownership perk. For used buyers, the main long-term risk is that a car this focused on driving enjoyment may have been driven hard, so condition and maintenance history matter.

What should I look for when buying a used 2022 Toyota GR86?

Accident-free inventory is solid at 76.6% — always verify the vehicle history report.

You should still check the history report carefully, because a sports car can hide hard use even when it looks clean on paper. Prioritize a pre-purchase inspection that focuses on wear items, signs of track use, and the condition of the drivetrain and suspension. You should also compare trim equipment closely, since some desirable features are reserved for higher trims.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The base GR 86 gets 17-inch alloy wheels with Michelin Primacy HP tires, while Premium models add 18-inch wheels with grippier Michelin Pilot Sport 4 tires, a ducktail rear spoiler, leather upholstery, and aluminum pedals. The Premium trim is the better value if you want the more complete feature set.
• Powertrain: The GR 86 uses a Subaru-sourced boxer-four engine with Toyota’s D-4S fuel-injection system. It makes 228 horsepower and 184 pound-feet of torque, and you can choose a six-speed manual or a six-speed automatic with paddle shifters.
• Safety package: The car uses Subaru’s camera-based EyeSight system. Standard driver aids include automatic emergency braking, adaptive cruise control, pre-collision throttle management, lane-departure warning, sway warning, automatic high beams, and lead-vehicle start alert. Blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, and adaptive headlights are added on the Premium trim.
• Infotainment: You get a standard 8-inch touchscreen, a 7-inch digital instrument cluster, Apple CarPlay/Android Auto, Bluetooth, and SiriusXM satellite radio. The larger screen and digital cluster make the cabin easier to live with than the previous generation.
• Fuel efficiency: Toyota estimates 21 mpg combined, 19 mpg city, and 26 mpg highway with the manual transmission, or 24 mpg combined, 20 mpg city, and 30 mpg highway with the automatic.

Which 2022 Toyota GR86 trim should I buy?

The 2022 Toyota GR86 is offered in 2 trim levels: base and Premium.

Here's the short version:

• base: This is the entry point if you want the lowest-cost way into the GR86 formula. You still get the core rear-wheel-drive sports-car experience, the 8-inch touchscreen, the digital instrument cluster, and the standard driver-assistance suite with the automatic transmission.
• Premium: This is the trim to target if you want the best overall balance of equipment and value. It adds the grippier tires, ducktail rear spoiler, leather upholstery, aluminum pedals, blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, and adaptive headlights.

The safety package is standard on the automatic, while the manual transmission does not get those advanced driver aids.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2022 Toyota GR86?

This is a moderate market for selective buyers, so you should shop carefully and move quickly when you find a strong listing.

• Deal availability: 28.3% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 321 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices are up 1.17% year-over-year.
• Clean inventory: 76.6% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $26,186, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2022 Toyota GR86's resale value?

The current average of $27,422 sits slightly above last year's $27,104.

That upward move suggests the GR86 has held demand well, which is a positive sign if you plan to sell later. A model with a relatively tight price range and steady year-over-year growth can be easier to move when it’s time to trade in or list privately.

Strong owner satisfaction also helps support future demand. Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.9/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2022 Toyota GR86 safe?

The 2022 Toyota GR86 hasn’t published crash-test ratings yet.

It earns a 7/10 safety score from our experts.

Standard safety equipment includes seven airbags, stability control, and traction control. The automatic transmission gets the full set of driver aids, including automatic emergency braking, adaptive cruise control, pre-collision throttle management, lane-departure warning, sway warning, automatic high beams, and lead-vehicle start alert. Premium models add blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, and adaptive headlights.

A key caveat is that advanced safety features are not standard with the manual transmission, so manual buyers give up some of the car’s driver-assistance coverage.

Should I buy a 2022 Toyota GR86 or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2022 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2022 if:

• 28.3% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Accident-free inventory is solid at 76.6% — always verify the vehicle history report.
• Price trend: Prices are up 1.17% year-over-year.
• Owners rate it 4.9/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• The 2022 brings a redesigned body, a more powerful engine, and more tech features.

Consider the 2023 if:

• At $29,156, the 2023 costs more than the current year's $27,422 average.
• It sharpens the enthusiast focus with more engaging performance and a more driver-centric feel.

The bottom line: If you want the better value and a strong mix of price, inventory, and owner satisfaction, the 2022 is the smarter starting point. If you’re willing to pay more for the next model year’s added polish and enthusiast appeal, the 2023 is worth a look.
