How much does the 2022 Toyota GR86 cost?

Prices are up 2.79% year-over-year — a sign of continued demand for this model year.

There are 334 listings available, which gives you a modest amount of inventory to compare before you buy.

Is the 2022 Toyota GR86 a good car?

Yes — the 2022 Toyota GR86 earns a 4.86/5 user rating and a 7.67/10 expert rating. The model scores 9/10 across Performance and Cost effectiveness.

Owners consistently praise its strong performance, good handling, and fun factor, along with its stylish design and nice interior. The overview and expert notes also point to easy-to-use technology and strong value for money, which helps broaden its appeal beyond pure enthusiasts.

The trade-offs are real: you give up rear-seat space, and advanced safety features are not standard with the manual transmission. That makes it a better fit if you want a compact, driver-focused sports car rather than a roomy all-purpose commuter.

With 30.8% of listings marked as good or great deals, you still have a decent chance of finding a compelling example.

Is the 2022 Toyota GR86 reliable?

Owners rate it 4.86/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

Owner feedback describes the car as enjoyable to drive and highlights its strong performance and good handling, which often lines up with a sense of dependable ownership when a car feels consistently rewarding to use. The expert notes also emphasize a torquier engine, improved chassis rigidity, and a more focused feel, all of which support the impression of a well-sorted package.

Toyota’s included scheduled maintenance for the first two years or 25,000 miles also helps reduce early ownership hassle. For used buyers, the main long-term risk is less about outright complexity and more about finding a car that hasn’t been driven hard or neglected.

What should I look for when buying a used 2022 Toyota GR86?

Accident-free inventory is solid at 78.7% — always verify the vehicle history report.

You should still run a vehicle history report on any car you’re considering, even if the listing looks clean. A pre-purchase inspection is especially important here because this is a sports car that may have been driven enthusiastically. Focus on overall condition, signs of hard use, and whether the car has the equipment you want, since some safety features depend on transmission and trim.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The base car keeps the formula simple, while Premium models add a ducktail rear spoiler, aluminum pedals, leather upholstery, and grippier tires. If you want the best mix of value and equipment, the Premium trim is the one to target.
• Powertrain: You get a 2.4-liter boxer-four with 228 horsepower and 184 pound-feet of torque, plus a six-speed manual or six-speed automatic. Toyota quotes 6.1 seconds to 60 mph with the manual and 6.6 seconds with the automatic.
• Safety package: The car uses Subaru’s camera-based EyeSight system, but the driver aids are only available with the automatic transmission. Standard features include automatic emergency braking, adaptive cruise control, pre-collision throttle management, lane-departure warning, sway warning, automatic high beams, and lead-vehicle start alert. Premium models also add blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, and adaptive headlights.
• Infotainment: You get an 8-inch touchscreen, a 7-inch digital instrument cluster, wireless-style smartphone integration through Apple CarPlay/Android Auto connectivity, Bluetooth, and SiriusXM satellite radio. The cluster also adds track-friendly features like a lap timer, data traces, and a digital shift light.
• Fuel efficiency: Toyota estimates 21 mpg combined, 19 mpg city, and 26 mpg highway with the manual, or 24 mpg combined, 20 mpg city, and 30 mpg highway with the automatic.

Which 2022 Toyota GR86 trim should I buy?

The 2022 Toyota GR86 is offered in 2 trim levels: base and Premium.

Here's the short version:

• base: This is the simpler, lower-cost way into the GR86 formula, and it still gives you the core rear-wheel-drive sports-car experience, the 8-inch touchscreen, and the 7-inch digital cluster. It makes the most sense if you want the sharp driving character without paying for extras you may not need.
• Premium: This is the better-equipped choice, adding the ducktail rear spoiler, aluminum pedals, leather upholstery, grippier tires, blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, and adaptive headlights. If you want the best-value trim, this is the one to buy.

Advanced safety features are not standard with the manual transmission, so check the equipment carefully before you commit.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2022 Toyota GR86?

This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop patiently but still move quickly on a strong listing.

• Deal availability: 30.8% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 334 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices are up 2.79% year-over-year.
• Clean inventory: 78.7% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $26,186, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2022 Toyota GR86's resale value?

The current average of $27,868 sits slightly above last year's $27,112.

That upward move suggests the market has held up reasonably well for this model year. If you buy carefully and keep the car in good condition, you should have a decent chance of preserving value better than you would with a less desirable commuter car.

The GR86’s enthusiast appeal helps support demand, especially because shoppers looking for a small rear-wheel-drive sports car have fewer alternatives. Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.86/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2022 Toyota GR86 safe?

The 2022 Toyota GR86 hasn’t been published with crash-test ratings yet.

It earns a 7/10 safety score from our experts.

Standard safety features include seven airbags, stability control, and traction control. The car also gets a set of driver aids, but they’re only available with the automatic transmission: automatic emergency braking, adaptive cruise control, pre-collision throttle management, lane-departure warning, sway warning, automatic high beams, and lead-vehicle start alert. Premium models add blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, and adaptive headlights.

The main caveat is that advanced safety features are not standard with the manual transmission, so you need to check the exact configuration carefully if safety tech matters to you.

Should I buy a 2022 Toyota GR86 or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2022 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2022 if:

• 30.8% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Accident-free inventory is solid at 78.7% — always verify the vehicle history report.
• Price trend: Prices are up 2.79% year-over-year.
• Owners rate it 4.86/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• The redesign adds a more powerful engine, more tech, and a more focused chassis.

Consider the 2023 if:

• At $29,440, the 2023 costs more than the current year's $27,868 average.
• It sharpens the driver-focused formula with even stronger enthusiast appeal.

The bottom line: If you want the better value and a strong mix of performance, tech, and market availability, the 2022 is the smarter buy. If you’re willing to pay more for the next model year’s slightly more refined enthusiast appeal, the 2023 is worth a look. For price-sensitive shoppers, the 2022 remains the more compelling path.
