Why it stands out
The 2022 Jeep Cherokee stands out as a compact SUV that blends Jeep’s familiar all-weather capability with a more road-friendly personality. By this point in the model’s run, it offered a softer crossover body style than the older, truck-like Cherokees, yet it still kept the brand’s adventurous image. Buyers looking for a used Cherokee from this year get a vehicle that was positioned as a practical alternative for people who wanted traction and utility without moving up to something larger or more expensive.
For 2022, the Cherokee’s equipment list was notably generous. The 8.4-inch touchscreen and SiriusXM became standard on all trims, the Latitude Lux gained more standard features including a power liftgate, and the new X trim borrowed some Trailhawk features, including the V6 and suspension lift. Those updates make this model year appealing for shoppers who want a well-equipped SUV without having to step into the highest trims. Owners also tend to praise the Cherokee for its comfortable ride, responsive handling, and classic Jeep styling.
There are still tradeoffs to keep in mind. The buying guide describes the Cherokee line as having poor efficiency overall, and it also notes that some engines through the years were problematic. Even so, the 2022 Cherokee remains attractive for buyers who value standard tech, available capability, and a familiar Jeep character in a smaller package.

How much does the 2022 Jeep Cherokee cost?
| Metric | Value |
|---|---|
| Current Average Price | $22,001 |
| Year-Round Low | $22,001 |
| Year-Round High | $24,608 |
| Average Price a Year Ago | $24,601 |
| Change vs. Last Year | −10.57% |
Prices have softened 10.57% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.
There are 2,193 listings available, which suggests a healthy amount of inventory to compare.
Is the 2022 Jeep Cherokee a good car?
Yes — the 2022 Jeep Cherokee earns a 5/5 user rating, which points to strong owner satisfaction.
Owners consistently praise its strong performance, comfortable ride, responsive handling, and classic style. The overview also frames it as a practical compact SUV for you if you want all-weather capability, standard tech, and a more road-friendly personality without moving up to a larger or pricier vehicle.
With 35.9% of listings marked as good or great deals, you have a decent chance of finding a competitive listing.
Is the 2022 Jeep Cherokee reliable?
Owners rate it 5/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.
The review summary also emphasizes that owners see it as dependable, with positive feedback centered on a comfortable ride and strong performance. That kind of owner confidence matters if you want a used SUV you can count on over time.
For used buyers, the main long-term ownership risk is making sure the specific vehicle you choose has been well maintained and checked carefully before you commit.
What should I look for when buying a used 2022 Jeep Cherokee?
Accident-free inventory is solid at 80.1% — always verify the vehicle history report.
You should start with the history report so you can confirm accident status, title history, and any major claims. After that, prioritize a thorough inspection of the vehicle’s condition, especially signs of wear that could affect long-term ownership. It also makes sense to focus on how the SUV presents overall, since condition can vary even within a model year with plenty of listings.
Is now a good time to buy a used 2022 Jeep Cherokee?
This looks like a moderate market for selective buyers, with enough inventory and deal activity to reward careful shopping.
- Deal availability: 35.9% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Inventory: There are 2,193 listings available.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 10.57% compared with last year.
- Clean inventory: 80.1% of listings are accident-free.
If you find a listing below $22,001, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
What is the 2022 Jeep Cherokee's resale value?
The current average of $22,001 sits slightly below last year's $24,601.
That price movement suggests the Cherokee has become more affordable for today’s buyer, but it also means a future seller may face a softer market than last year. If you buy at the right price now, you may have less downside risk later than someone who paid closer to the prior average. Strong condition and clean history should matter even more if you want to protect resale value.
Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 5/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.
Should I buy a 2022 Jeep Cherokee or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2022 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2022 if:
- 35.9% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Accident-free inventory is solid at 80.1% — always verify the vehicle history report.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 10.57% compared with last year.
- Owners rate it 5/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
Consider the 2021 if:
- At $18,364, the 2021 costs less than the current year's $22,001 average.
- It offers a smooth ride, strong value, and useful safety features.
The bottom line: You should lean toward the 2022 if you want the stronger current-market mix of owner satisfaction, deal availability, and cleaner inventory. If your priority is spending less upfront, the 2021 is the better value-focused alternative, especially if you find one in excellent condition.
