CarGurus Analysis: 2022 GMC Yukon
overall

Summary
With 3,478 currently listed for sale and an average price of $47,200, 35.0% of 2022 GMC Yukons for sale on CarGurus are rated as good or great deals.
Favorably reviewed: Owners rated the 2022 GMC Yukon 5 / 5 stars and CarGurus experts gave it a 7.5 / 10.
84.2% of 2022 Yukon models on CarGurus are accident free.
Why it stands out
The 2022 GMC Yukon stands out as a full-size SUV that blends style and capability with GMC’s premium-leaning “Professional Grade” approach. It sits in a unique spot in the brand’s lineup, aiming between Chevrolet and Cadillac with distinctive exterior and interior design, enhanced capabilities, and a more upscale feel than a basic utility vehicle.
For 2022, the Yukon adds a standard 12-inch driver information center and enhanced connectivity, building on its redesign for the 2021 model year. It also offers multiple powertrain options, including a powerful engine, and it provides plenty of cargo space, which helps make it appealing to buyers who want a large SUV that can handle family duties and hauling needs. The tradeoffs are familiar for this class: poor fuel economy and poor value for money.

Very nice ride. The only thing to improve would be the fuel efficiency of the 5.3L gas engine.

The diesel is good value, the gas models not so much. I love these things! Much better space in the trunk and in general than the expedition and that’s coming from a ford guy. The seats fold in a more logical fashion and it’s more family friendly. The seats in the expedition are so hard I had to look at tahoes and Yukons instead. They’re currently vastly superior!

How much does the 2022 GMC Yukon cost?
| Metric | Value |
|---|---|
| Current Average Price | $47,164 |
| Year-Round Low | $47,164 |
| Year-Round High | $54,039 |
| Average Price a Year Ago | $54,036 |
| Change vs. Last Year | −12.72% |
Prices have softened 12.72% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.
There are 3,483 listings available, which gives you a solid pool to compare prices and equipment.
Is the 2022 GMC Yukon a good car?
Yes — the 2022 GMC Yukon earns a 5/5 user rating and a 7.5/10 expert rating. The model scores 8/10 across Look and feel, Form and function, Technology, and Safety.
It fits you well if you want a full-size SUV with a premium-leaning design, strong capability, and plenty of cargo space. The tradeoffs are clear: poor fuel economy and poor value for money.
One of the biggest strengths is its broad powertrain lineup, including a powerful engine option, plus the roomy cabin and family-friendly utility. The main compromises are that it can be expensive relative to what you get and it still asks you to live with fuel-thirsty operation.
35.5% of listings are priced as good or great deals, which suggests there are some attractive opportunities if you shop carefully.
Is the 2022 GMC Yukon reliable?
Owners rate it 5/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.
The 2022 Yukon is positioned as a premium-leaning full-size SUV with enhanced capability, and its redesign brought meaningful gains in space and technology. The expert test-drive data also points to a smooth, quiet ride over most surfaces and a composed driving experience for a vehicle this large.
Its available diesel powertrain is backed by a five-year, 100,000-mile powertrain warranty, which adds peace of mind if you plan to keep the vehicle for a while. The diesel also delivers excellent fuel economy and long range, which can help reduce day-to-day ownership strain.
For used buyers, the main long-term risk is that a large, feature-rich SUV can become costly to own if maintenance, fuel use, or repair needs stack up.
What should I look for when buying a used 2022 GMC Yukon?
Accident-free inventory is solid at 84.5% — always verify the vehicle history report.
You should still check the history report carefully, because a clean listing percentage does not guarantee a clean individual vehicle. Prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially on higher-mileage examples or trucks with towing use, and pay close attention to tire wear, suspension condition, and interior wear.
Key things to evaluate:
- Trim level: The base SLE already has a premium look, but it uses cloth seats, while the other trims move to perforated leather. The AT4 adds a distinct off-road look, and the Denali brings the most upscale interior treatment, including unique interior designs and heated and cooled front seats.
- Powertrain: You can choose from a 5.3-liter V8, a 6.2-liter V8, or a 3.0-liter turbodiesel four-cylinder. The diesel stands out for excellent fuel economy and long range, while the V8s use cylinder-deactivation technology.
- Safety package: GMC Pro Safety is standard and includes automatic emergency braking with front pedestrian detection, forward-collision warning, lane-departure warning, lane-keeping assistance, following distance indicator, and automatic high-beam headlights. GMC Pro Safety Plus adds lane-change alert with blind-spot warning, rear cross-traffic alert, and rear park assist, and it is available on SLE but standard on SLT and above.
- Infotainment: The Yukon has a 10.2-inch touchscreen, a 12-inch driver information center, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, Google Built-In, and available connected services. Higher trims can add a large head-up display and rear-seat entertainment.
- Fuel efficiency: The V8 models return 16-17 mpg combined, while diesel versions average 22-23 mpg combined. The diesel can travel up to 648 miles on a tank.
Which 2022 GMC Yukon trim should I buy?
The 2022 GMC Yukon is offered in 4 trim levels: SLE, SLT, AT4, and Denali.
Here's the short version:
- SLE: This is the entry point, and it already gives you the Yukon’s premium-leaning design and standard safety suite. It makes sense if you want the lowest starting price and can live without the extra comfort and convenience features found higher up.
- SLT: This is the best-value trim for many shoppers because it adds more upscale equipment and unlocks more of the Yukon’s comfort and convenience appeal without jumping all the way to luxury pricing.
- AT4: Choose this if you want the off-road-oriented look and hardware, including unique front styling, a skid plate, red recovery hooks, and standard 4WD. It also gets the two-speed transfer case and available diesel is not offered here.
- Denali: This is the most luxurious choice, with the richest interior treatment, standard second-row captain’s chairs, heated and cooled front seats, and the strongest upscale presence. It is the trim to buy if you want the Yukon to feel closest to a luxury SUV.
GMC Pro Safety Plus is available on SLE and standard on SLT and above, so safety equipment improves as you move up the lineup.
Is now a good time to buy a used 2022 GMC Yukon?
This is a moderate market for selective buyers, so you can shop with some leverage if you compare listings carefully.
- Deal availability: 35.5% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Inventory: There are 3,483 listings available.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 12.72% compared with last year.
- Clean inventory: 84.5% of listings are accident-free.
If you find a listing below $47,164, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
What is the 2022 GMC Yukon's resale value?
The current average of $47,164 sits slightly below last year's $54,036.
That decline suggests the market has already adjusted downward, which can help you buy at a more favorable point in the cycle. If you plan to sell later, the current pricing gives you a clearer benchmark for what buyers are willing to pay today.
The Yukon’s broad appeal as a large, premium-leaning SUV should help support demand, especially for well-equipped examples with desirable features and clean history. Strong condition and the right trim will matter a lot when it comes time to resell.
Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 5/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.
Is the 2022 GMC Yukon safe?
The 2022 GMC Yukon earns four-star ratings in frontal crash and rollover, and five-star ratings in side crash and all other NHTSA tests.
It earns an 8/10 safety score from our experts.
Every 2022 Yukon comes with GMC Pro Safety, which includes automatic emergency braking with front pedestrian detection, forward-collision warning, lane-departure warning, lane-keeping assistance, following distance indicator, and automatic high-beam headlights. GMC Pro Safety Plus adds lane-change alert with blind-spot warning, rear cross-traffic alert, and rear park assist, and it is available on SLE but standard on SLT and above.
The main caveat is that the NHTSA rollover result is lower than the rest of the crash results, so you should keep that in mind if safety is a top priority.
Should I buy a 2022 GMC Yukon or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2022 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2022 if:
- 35.5% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Accident-free inventory is solid at 84.5% — always verify the vehicle history report.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 12.72% compared with last year.
- Owners rate it 5/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
- It adds a standard 12-inch driver information center and enhanced connectivity.
Consider the 2021 if:
- At $42,159, the 2021 costs less than the current year's $47,164 average.
- The redesign brought more space, better ride quality, and a major technology upgrade.
The bottom line: If you want the stronger current-year value story and updated equipment, the 2022 is the better all-around pick. If your priority is spending less up front, the 2021 is the smarter budget alternative and still delivers the core Yukon strengths.
