Used 2021 Volkswagen Tiguan for Sale near Ohio

How much does the 2021 Volkswagen Tiguan cost?

Prices have softened 12.42% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.

There are 3,406 listings available, which suggests you have a healthy amount of inventory to compare.

Is the 2021 Volkswagen Tiguan a good car?

Yes — you’re looking at a 4.5/5 user-rated SUV with an expert score of 7.3/10. The standout strength is Form and function at 9/10.

Drivers consistently praise its comfort, safety features, practicality, spacious interior, and good fuel economy. The Tiguan also fits well if you want a family-friendly SUV with straightforward technology and plenty of cargo space.

The trade-offs are familiar: the performance can feel sluggish at times, and the cabin materials and stereo quality are weaker points. That makes it a better fit if you value everyday usability over a polished or sporty driving experience.

The market also looks reasonably supportive, with 39.2% of listings marked as good or great deals.

Is the 2021 Volkswagen Tiguan reliable?

Owners rate it 4.5/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

User feedback points to a dependable, trouble-free ownership experience for many drivers, especially around comfort, practicality, and long-term usefulness. The Tiguan’s standard maintenance coverage also helps reduce early ownership friction, with free scheduled maintenance for two years or 20,000 miles and roadside assistance for three years or 36,000 miles.

The main long-term ownership risk for used buyers is that condition and maintenance history matter, especially if you want to avoid surprises from a vehicle that has already seen family-duty use.

What should I look for when buying a used 2021 Volkswagen Tiguan?

Accident-free inventory is solid at 77.6% — always verify the vehicle history report.

You should still run a history report on any listing you’re considering, even if the vehicle looks clean on paper. Prioritize a pre-purchase inspection if you’re shopping a higher-mileage example or one with incomplete service records. Focus on cabin condition, electronics, and signs of heavy family use, since those areas tend to reveal how well the SUV was cared for.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: S, SE, SEL, SE R-Line Black, and SEL Premium R-Line are the trims explicitly named here. The base S is the most stripped-down version, while SE adds more everyday convenience and SEL brings more advanced equipment. The R-Line versions add sportier design and equipment upgrades, and the SEL Premium R-Line is the most fully equipped.
• Powertrain: Every Tiguan uses a turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine with 184 horsepower and 221 pound-feet of torque, paired with an eight-speed automatic transmission. Front-wheel drive is standard, and 4Motion all-wheel drive is available on most models.
• Safety package: IQ Drive is standard and includes forward-collision warning, pedestrian detection, automatic emergency braking, blind-spot monitoring, and rear cross-traffic alert. Adaptive cruise control starts with SE, lane-departure warning with lane-keep assist starts with SEL, and automatic high-beam headlights are reserved for SEL Premium R-Line.
• Infotainment: Starting with SE, you get an 8-inch touchscreen, faster response times, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, WiFi for up to four devices, SiriusXM 360L, Amazon Alexa compatibility, and Car-Net connected services.
• Fuel efficiency: The Tiguan returns 25 mpg in combined driving with front-wheel drive and 24 mpg with all-wheel drive. During testing, the AWD model averaged 22.6 mpg.

Which 2021 Volkswagen Tiguan trim should I buy?

The 2021 Volkswagen Tiguan is offered in 5 trim levels: S, SE, SEL, SE R-Line Black, and SEL Premium R-Line.

Here's the short version:

• S: This is the entry point, so it makes the Tiguan’s space and practicality most accessible, but you give up the extra convenience and safety upgrades found higher up the range.
• SE: This is the best-value trim for many shoppers because it adds the 8-inch touchscreen, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and adaptive cruise control.
• SEL: This trim is the better pick if you want more advanced driver assistance, including lane-departure warning with lane-keep assist, plus more premium tech touches.
• SE R-Line Black: Choose this if you want the sportier design and equipment upgrades without going all the way to the top trim.
• SEL Premium R-Line: This is the most fully equipped version, adding automatic high-beam headlights, front and rear parking sensors, a surround-view camera, and the premium Fender audio system.

The safety package is strongest on SEL and SEL Premium R-Line, where the added equipment and lighting help the Tiguan earn its top IIHS recognition.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2021 Volkswagen Tiguan?

This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop carefully and still find worthwhile listings.

• Deal availability: 39.2% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 3,406 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 12.42% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 77.6% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $16,831, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2021 Volkswagen Tiguan's resale value?

The current average of $16,831 sits slightly below last year's $19,218.

That decline suggests the market has already adjusted downward, which can help you as a buyer but may temper near-term resale expectations if you plan to sell soon. For a future seller, the key is to buy well and keep the vehicle in strong condition so you’re not competing from a weaker price position.

The Tiguan’s broad appeal, practical layout, and strong owner satisfaction should help support demand over time. Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.5/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2021 Volkswagen Tiguan safe?

The 2021 Tiguan earns a “Top Safety Pick” rating in SEL and SEL Premium R-Line specification thanks to the high-performing LED headlights that are standard for these trims.

It earns an 8/10 safety score from our experts.

IQ Drive is standard and includes forward-collision warning, pedestrian detection, automatic emergency braking, blind-spot monitoring, and rear cross-traffic alert. Adaptive cruise control starts with SE, lane-departure warning with lane-keep assist starts with SEL, and automatic high-beam headlights are standard on SEL Premium R-Line.

One caveat is that the top IIHS result applies only to SEL and SEL Premium R-Line, so lower trims do not get the same recognition.

Should I buy a 2021 Volkswagen Tiguan or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2021 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

• Price trend: Prices have softened 12.42% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.5/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• You want a practical compact SUV with strong space, easy-to-use tech, and family-friendly usability.

• It stands out for rare third-row seating and a roomy cabin.

Consider the 2022 if:

• At $19,799, the 2022 costs more than the current year's $16,831 average.
• It adds a light refresh with new safety technology.

The bottom line: The 2021 is the best all-around pick if you want a balanced mix of value, space, and safety. If price is your top priority, the 2020 is the cheaper route; if you want newer safety tech, the 2022 is worth a look.
