Used 2021 Toyota Tacoma for Sale near Connecticut

How much does the 2021 Toyota Tacoma cost?

Prices have softened 1.38% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.

There are 4,683 listings available, which gives you a solid amount of inventory to compare.

Is the 2021 Toyota Tacoma a good car?

Yes — the 2021 Toyota Tacoma earns a 4.88/5 user rating and a 6.5/10 expert rating. The standout strength is Look and feel at 8/10.

User feedback repeatedly points to value, reliability, and resale potential, along with appreciation for the truck’s features, performance, and durability. The Tacoma’s appeal is especially strong if you want a truck with a rugged feel and a proven reputation.

The trade-offs are clear: the expert notes call out sluggish performance and poor handling, and the base engine is described as underwhelming. That means you should expect capability and character more than refinement.

For shoppers who want a midsize pickup that can be tailored to work, commuting, or off-road use, the Tacoma fits that brief well. The market also shows 31.7% good or great deals, so there are still worthwhile opportunities if you shop carefully.

Is the 2021 Toyota Tacoma reliable?

Owners rate it 4.88/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

User feedback highlights the Tacoma as reliable, durable, and a truck people can count on over time. The expert notes also describe it as having an excellent reputation for reliability, and ToyotaCare adds two years or 25,000 miles of free factory-scheduled maintenance plus roadside assistance.

That combination suggests strong dependability for used buyers, but you should still watch for wear tied to hard use, especially on trucks that may have seen towing, hauling, or off-road driving.

What should I look for when buying a used 2021 Toyota Tacoma?

At 72.9% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.

You should start with a vehicle history report and confirm whether the truck has had any collision repairs, frame damage, or repeated claims. Then prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially if the truck has off-road equipment, towing use, or signs of heavy wear. Focus on overall condition, maintenance records, and how the truck drives, not just the trim badge.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The SR trim gets a 7-inch touchscreen, while all other trims get an 8-inch touchscreen. Higher trims add more equipment, and the TRD Pro stands out with off-road-focused hardware and unique styling, while the Limited leans more toward comfort.
• Powertrain: You can choose a 2.7-liter four-cylinder or a 3.5-liter V6. The four-cylinder is paired only with an automatic, while the V6 is available with both automatic and manual transmissions. The V6 uses Toyota’s D4S fuel-injection system and Atkinson-cycle tuning for better fuel economy.
• Safety package: Standard driver-assistance features include forward-collision warning with pedestrian detection, automatic emergency braking, lane-departure warning, automatic high beams, and adaptive cruise control. That’s a strong standard list, though some rivals offer more advanced features.
• Infotainment: The Tacoma includes Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, Amazon Alexa, Bluetooth, and SiriusXM satellite radio across the lineup. The system is functional and easy to use, but it stays basic rather than flashy.
• Fuel efficiency: The base four-cylinder returns 21 mpg combined with rear-wheel drive and 20 mpg combined with four-wheel drive. The V6 automatic also returns 21 mpg combined with rear-wheel drive and 20 mpg combined with four-wheel drive, while the V6 manual drops to 18 mpg combined. The TRD Pro is rated at 18 mpg combined.

Which 2021 Toyota Tacoma trim should I buy?

The 2021 Toyota Tacoma is offered in 6 trim levels: SR, SR5, TRD Off Road, TRD Sport, Limited, and TRD Pro.

Here's the short version:

• SR: This is the entry point, and it makes the most sense if you want the Tacoma’s core toughness at the lowest price. It gets the smaller 7-inch touchscreen, so it’s the trim to choose if you care more about value than extras.
• SR5: This is the best-value choice for most shoppers because it adds more everyday usability without pushing you into the pricier off-road or luxury-focused trims. It also gets the larger 8-inch touchscreen.
• TRD Off Road: Choose this if you want the Tacoma’s off-road hardware without going all the way to the top of the range. It’s the trim that best matches the truck’s rugged personality.
• TRD Sport: This is the better pick if you want a more street-oriented Tacoma with a sportier feel and appearance.
• Limited: This is the comfort-oriented choice, and it’s the right fit if you want a more upscale daily driver rather than a trail-focused truck.
• TRD Pro: This is the most off-road-focused version and the top trim. It adds the most serious hardware and is the right pick if off-road capability matters most.

The standard safety package is strong across the lineup, but feature availability still varies by trim, so check equipment carefully before you buy.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2021 Toyota Tacoma?

This is a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you have room to shop, but the best listings still move quickly.

• Deal availability: 31.7% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 4,683 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 1.38% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 72.9% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $30,969, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2021 Toyota Tacoma's resale value?

The current average of $32,266 sits slightly below last year's $32,719.

That modest decline suggests the Tacoma is holding value reasonably well rather than sliding sharply. For a future seller, that’s a good sign: you’re not looking at a model year that has lost demand in a dramatic way.

The Tacoma’s broad appeal, strong reputation, and steady shopper interest should help support resale strength over time. Well-kept trucks with clean histories and desirable equipment should remain easier to move than neglected examples.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.88/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2021 Toyota Tacoma safe?

The 2021 Toyota Tacoma earns Good IIHS crash-test scores in all tests except the passenger-side small overlap front test, where it received an Acceptable score. It also earns a four-star overall rating from NHTSA, with four-star ratings in frontal and rollover crash testing and five-star ratings in side crash tests.

It earns a 7/10 safety score from our experts.

Standard driver-assistance features include forward-collision warning with pedestrian detection, automatic emergency braking, lane-departure warning, automatic high beams, and adaptive cruise control. That’s a solid standard safety package for a truck.

The main caveat is the Acceptable passenger-side small overlap result, and headlight performance varies by trim level with some Marginal ratings. If safety is a top priority, you should pay close attention to the exact trim and equipment list.

Should I buy a 2021 Toyota Tacoma or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2021 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2021 if:

• 31.7% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• At 72.9% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 1.38% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.88/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• The 2021 adds two special editions and standard dual-zone automatic climate control on V6 models.

Consider the 2020 if:

• At $30,735, the 2020 costs less than the current year's $32,266 average.
• It keeps the Tacoma’s rugged appeal while adding useful updates.

Consider the 2022 if:

• At $33,041, the 2022 costs more than the current year's $32,266 average.
• It remains a strong choice for commuting and weekend adventures.

The bottom line: If you want the best mix of current-year pricing, broad inventory, and strong owner satisfaction, the 2021 is the primary target. If you’re price-sensitive, the 2020 is the smarter value play, while the 2022 makes sense only if you find a cleaner or better-equipped example worth the premium.
