How much does the 2021 Toyota Prius cost?

Prices have held steady compared to this time last year, signaling a stable and predictable market for this model year.

There are 367 listings available, which gives you a solid pool to compare prices and equipment.

Is the 2021 Toyota Prius a good car?

Yes — the 2021 Toyota Prius earns a 5/5 user rating and a 6.2/10 expert rating. The standout strength is Cost effectiveness at 9/10.

The Prius is built around efficiency and everyday practicality, and it is aimed at you if you want a low-hassle car that focuses on reliability, safety, economy, and getting from Point A to Point B. Its strengths include a quiet cabin and excellent value for money, while the main trade-offs are a potentially polarizing design and sluggish performance.

The market also shows 32.2% of listings as good or great deals, which suggests there are worthwhile opportunities if you shop carefully.

Is the 2021 Toyota Prius reliable?

Owners rate it 5/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

The Prius is described as a dependable, cost-effective hybrid with a well-earned reputation for reliability, and it also comes with complimentary scheduled maintenance for the first two years or 25,000 miles. Its efficiency-focused powertrain and practical design support the kind of low-hassle ownership many used buyers want.

For used buyers, the main long-term risk is that hybrid ownership can still bring higher repair complexity than a simpler gas-only car, so condition and maintenance history matter.

What should I look for when buying a used 2021 Toyota Prius?

At 68.1% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.

You should start with a vehicle history report and then prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially if the car has any accident history or signs of uneven wear. Focus on overall condition, because the Prius is a practical commuter car where maintenance history and cosmetic wear can matter as much as mileage. If you are comparing multiple listings, pay close attention to how well the car’s equipment matches the trim level you want.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The lineup includes L Eco, LE, XLE, 2020 Edition, and Limited. The base L Eco is the efficiency-focused choice, while LE and XLE can add AWD-e; the Limited stands apart with the most upscale equipment, including the unique infotainment setup.
• Powertrain: The Prius uses a 1.8-liter four-cylinder hybrid system with an electric motor and e-CVT. Front-drive versions are tuned for efficiency, while AWD-e versions trade some fuel economy for added traction.
• Safety package: Toyota Safety Sense 2.0 is standard across the lineup and includes adaptive cruise control with stop-and-go, forward-collision warning with pedestrian detection, lane-departure warning, lane-keep assist, lane-centering assist, automatic high beams, and road-sign recognition. Blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert is included on LE and higher trims.
• Infotainment: The standard system uses a 7-inch touchscreen and includes Bluetooth, SiriusXM, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, Amazon Alexa compatibility, Safety Connect, and WiFi Connect. The Limited gets an 11.6-inch portrait-style touchscreen, plus navigation, a JBL audio system, and natural voice recognition.
• Fuel efficiency: The L Eco is rated at 56 mpg combined, other front-drive versions at 52 mpg combined, and AWD-e versions at 49 mpg combined. In testing, the Prius 2020 Edition averaged 47.5 mpg.

Which 2021 Toyota Prius trim should I buy?

The 2021 Toyota Prius is offered in 5 trim levels: L Eco, LE, XLE, 2020 Edition, and Limited.

Here's the short version:

• L Eco: This is the efficiency-first choice if you want the best fuel economy and do not need extra equipment. It is the most value-focused way into the Prius lineup.
• LE: This is the best-value trim for most shoppers because it adds more everyday flexibility, and it is the entry point for AWD-e and blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert.
• XLE: Choose this if you want a more upscale feel than LE while still keeping the Prius’s core efficiency and practicality.
• 2020 Edition: This is the commemorative special edition with blacked-out trim, black 17-inch wheels, and unique paint choices, so it suits you if styling matters more than pure value.
• Limited: This is the most feature-rich trim, with the 11.6-inch portrait touchscreen, JBL audio, navigation, and natural voice recognition, but it does not get the Android Auto upgrade on the standard system.

Toyota Safety Sense 2.0 is standard on every trim, and blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert starts on LE and higher.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2021 Toyota Prius?

This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop patiently but still move quickly on the right listing.

• Deal availability: 32.2% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 367 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have held steady compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 68.1% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $19,691, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2021 Toyota Prius's resale value?

The current average of $21,107 sits slightly above last year's $21,041.

That small increase suggests the Prius has held its value fairly well, which is a good sign if you plan to sell later. Stable pricing also points to steady demand rather than a sharply weakening market. For a used hybrid with a strong efficiency reputation, that kind of consistency can help support resale confidence.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 5/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2021 Toyota Prius safe?

The 2021 Toyota Prius earns favorable marks from the IIHS, though it does not have an NHTSA crashworthiness rating.

It earns an 8/10 safety score from our experts.

Toyota Safety Sense 2.0 is standard on every trim and includes adaptive cruise control with stop-and-go, forward-collision warning with pedestrian detection, lane-departure warning, lane-keep assist, lane-centering assist, automatic high beams, and road-sign recognition. Blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert is included on LE and higher trims, so the base trim leaves that feature out.

One caveat is that the lane-keeping and lane-centering systems can make the steering feel more artificial, and the lane-departure warning can become intrusive.

Should I buy a 2021 Toyota Prius or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2021 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2021 if:

• 32.2% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• At 68.1% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
• Price trend: Prices have held steady compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 5/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• Toyota made Toyota Safety Sense 2.0 standard across the board, and Android Auto became standard as well.

Consider the 2020 if:

• At $20,718, the 2020 costs less than the current year's $21,107 average.
• It is a benchmark hybrid with strong versatility and practicality.

The bottom line: If you want the newer model-year setup with standard safety tech and steady pricing, the 2021 is the cleaner pick. If your priority is saving money up front, the 2020 is the better value-oriented alternative.
