How much does the 2021 Toyota Corolla Hatchback cost?

Prices have held steady compared to this time last year, signaling a stable and predictable market for this model year.

There are 347 listings available, which gives you a solid amount of inventory to compare before you buy.

Is the 2021 Toyota Corolla Hatchback a good car?

Yes — the 5/5 user rating and 7.8/10 expert rating point to a strong overall package. The 2021 Toyota Corolla Hatchback blends efficiency, reliability, and durability with a more engaging personality than many compact economy cars, and it adds attractiveness, comfort, and a dose of fun-to-drive character while keeping pricing competitive. The standout strength is Form and function at 9/10.

The trade-offs are that it can be noisy and it does not offer much cargo space. Even so, the hatchback layout, available manual transmission, and clear focus on practical transportation make it a smart fit if you want everyday usefulness with a little more driving enjoyment. 31.4% of listings are priced as good or great deals, which suggests there are worthwhile opportunities if you shop carefully.

Is the 2021 Toyota Corolla Hatchback reliable?

Owners rate it 5/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction. The Corolla Hatchback’s reputation for efficiency, reliability, and durability is reinforced by the expert assessment, which describes it as part of a long-running nameplate with a strong track record and a clear focus on dependable, economical transportation. The manual transmission is also described as having rev-matching, a light clutch, and slick-shifting feel, which can help reduce wear when used properly.

ToyotaCare is included, with no-cost maintenance for 24 months/25,000 miles and roadside assistance for 24 months/unlimited miles. For used buyers, the main long-term ownership risk is making sure the car has been maintained well and hasn’t been compromised by prior damage or neglect.

What should I look for when buying a used 2021 Toyota Corolla Hatchback?

At 67.4% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.

You should start with a vehicle history report and prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially if the car has had body repairs or shows uneven panel gaps, paint mismatch, or tire wear. Focus on overall condition rather than just mileage, since a clean, well-kept example is likely to be the better long-term buy. If you’re considering a manual, make sure the clutch and shifting feel consistent and smooth.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: SE and Nightshade models come with a 4.2-inch color multi-information display, while XSE upgrades to a 7-inch screen. XSE also adds blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert as standard, while it is available on SE.
• Powertrain: You get a naturally aspirated 2.0-liter inline four-cylinder engine with 168 horsepower and 151 pound-feet of torque. The hatchback is offered with either a six-speed manual transmission or a CVT, and the CVT is the better choice if you want the strongest fuel economy.
• Safety package: Toyota Safety Sense 2.0 is standard on every Corolla Hatchback and includes a pre-collision system with pedestrian detection, adaptive cruise control, lane-departure alert with steering assist, automatic high beams, Lane Tracing Assist, and road sign assist. Manual-transmission models do not get full-range adaptive cruise control or Lane Tracing Assist.
• Infotainment: All models get an 8-inch touchscreen, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, Amazon Alexa, Bluetooth, SiriusXM, WiFi Connect, and Toyota Connected Services Safety Connect. XSE CVT models can add premium audio with dynamic navigation, dynamic POI search, and dynamic voice recognition.
• Fuel efficiency: The manual-equipped model is rated at 28 mpg city and 37 mpg highway, while the CVT-equipped model is rated at up to 30-32 mpg city, 38-42 mpg highway, and 33-36 mpg combined.

Which 2021 Toyota Corolla Hatchback trim should I buy?

The 2021 Toyota Corolla Hatchback is offered in 3 trim levels: SE, Nightshade Special Edition, XSE.

Here's the short version:

• SE: This is the entry point and the best-value trim if you want the lowest starting price and the core Corolla Hatchback experience. You still get the standard 8-inch touchscreen, Toyota Safety Sense 2.0, and the hatchback’s efficient, practical setup.
• Nightshade Special Edition: This trim sits between SE and XSE and is the choice if you want a little more style without jumping all the way to the top trim. It keeps the same basic equipment structure as SE but adds a more distinctive appearance.
• XSE: This is the most fully equipped trim and the one to choose if you want the most comfort and tech. It adds the 7-inch multi-information display, standard blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert, and available upgrades like premium audio and adaptive front-lighting.

Toyota Safety Sense 2.0 is standard across the lineup, but manual-transmission models miss out on full-range adaptive cruise control and Lane Tracing Assist.

• Inventory: There are 347 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have held steady compared with last year.

What is the 2021 Toyota Corolla Hatchback's resale value?

The current average of $19,829 sits slightly above last year's $19,649.

That modest increase suggests the Corolla Hatchback has held value well enough to avoid sharp depreciation pressure. For a future seller, that kind of stability is helpful because it points to steady buyer interest rather than a market that is falling away. The combination of practical appeal, strong reputation, and competitive pricing should continue to support demand.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 5/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2021 Toyota Corolla Hatchback safe?

The 2021 Toyota Corolla Hatchback is a Top Safety Pick of the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) and received a five-star rating from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA).

It earns an 8/10 safety score from our experts.

Toyota Safety Sense 2.0 is standard on every Corolla Hatchback and includes a pre-collision system with pedestrian detection, adaptive cruise control, lane-departure alert with steering assist, automatic high beams, Lane Tracing Assist, and road sign assist. The car also comes with 10 standard airbags, Toyota’s Star Safety System, and a backup camera. Blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert is standard on XSE and available on SE.

One caveat is that manual-transmission models do not get full-range adaptive cruise control or Lane Tracing Assist.

Should I buy a 2021 Toyota Corolla Hatchback or consider a different year?

• At 67.4% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
• Price trend: Prices have held steady compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 5/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• The expert review highlights a hatchback that adds attractiveness, comfort, and fun-to-drive character while keeping competitive pricing and a clear focus on purpose.
