How much does the 2021 Toyota Corolla cost?

Prices have softened 3.60% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.

There are 3,263 listings available, which suggests you have a healthy amount of inventory to compare.

Is the 2021 Toyota Corolla a good car?

Generally — the 2021 Toyota Corolla earns a 4.43/5 user rating and a 7.83/10 expert rating. The model scores 9/10 across Technology and Safety.

Owners consistently praise its stylish design, excellent gas mileage, and reliability, and many also like how many features it packs in for city driving. The expert review also highlights that the SE and XSE trims make the Corolla more enjoyable to drive, with a sportier personality than the nameplate is usually known for. The main trade-offs are a noisy cabin and outdated technology, and the overview frames the car as a practical compact sedan that becomes more engaging in SE and XSE form. Good and great deals account for 32.8% of listings, which gives you some room to shop selectively.

Is the 2021 Toyota Corolla reliable?

Owners rate it 4.43/5, a solid signal of long-term satisfaction.

The owner feedback points to reliability, dependability, and a trouble-free ownership experience, with many shoppers valuing the Corolla’s reputation for being a car you can count on. The expert review reinforces that theme by describing it as affordable, reliable, and efficient, with a bulletproof reputation and a free maintenance plan for two years or 25,000 miles. That combination makes it appealing if you want low-stress ownership, though used buyers should still watch for wear, maintenance history, and any signs that prior use has eroded the car’s long-term value.

What should I look for when buying a used 2021 Toyota Corolla?

At 63.8% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.

You should start with a vehicle history report and then prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially if you’re considering a higher-mileage example or a car with a price that looks unusually strong. Focus on condition details that matter in daily use: cabin wear, seat comfort, infotainment operation, and evidence of consistent maintenance. If you’re shopping for a sportier SE or XSE, make sure the equipment matches the trim level you think you’re buying.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The SE and XSE add sport-design bumpers, a mesh grille insert, a matching diffuser panel, a subtle body kit, a twin-outlet exhaust, and 18-inch aluminum wheels, while the L, LE, and XLE are the more anonymous choices. The SE is the best-value pick because it keeps the sporty look while saving several thousand dollars versus the XSE.
• Powertrain: The SE and XSE use a 2.0-liter 4-cylinder engine with 169 horsepower and 151 lb-ft of torque, paired with a Dynamic Shift CVT, paddle shifters, and a Sport driving mode. A six-speed manual with downshift rev-matching is available on SE.
• Safety package: Toyota Safety Sense 2.0 is standard and includes adaptive cruise control, forward collision warning, pedestrian detection, cyclist detection, automatic emergency braking, lane-departure warning, lane-keeping assistance, lane-centering assistance, and automatic high beams. Rear side-impact airbags are also standard, and blind-spot warning gains rear cross-traffic warning.
• Infotainment: Android Auto, Apple CarPlay, Amazon Alexa, and SiriusXM are standard. The SE gets an 8-inch touchscreen, while the XSE adds Service Connect and Remote Connect, plus dynamic voice recognition, dynamic navigation, and Destination Assist.
• Fuel efficiency: The Corolla XSE is rated at 34 mpg combined, and the review notes an observed 31.1 mpg on a mountainous route.

Which 2021 Toyota Corolla trim should I buy?

The 2021 Toyota Corolla is offered in 5 trim levels: L, LE, XLE, SE, XSE.

Here's the short version:

• L: This is the simplest path into the Corolla lineup if you want the lowest-frills version and don’t need the sportier equipment or extra convenience features.
• LE: This is the trim most buyers should start with if they want the best balance of value and everyday usability, especially since the infotainment upgrade makes the Corolla easier to live with.
• XLE: Choose this if you want a more upscale feel and are willing to pay more for added comfort and convenience.
• SE: This is the best-value trim for most shoppers because it adds the sportier styling, keeps the price in check, and is the only trim that can be paired with the manual transmission.
• XSE: Pick this if you want the most complete Corolla experience, including the richer tech and convenience features, but it makes the most sense only if you’re willing to pay for the top-end equipment.

Toyota Safety Sense 2.0 is standard across the lineup, so you get the core safety package even if you stay with a lower trim.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2021 Toyota Corolla?

This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop patiently but still move quickly on the right car.

• Deal availability: 32.8% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 3,263 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 3.60% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 63.8% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $16,495, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2021 Toyota Corolla's resale value?

The current average of $17,082 sits slightly below last year's $17,720.

That softer pricing suggests the Corolla is currently more buyer-friendly than it was a year ago, which can help you if you’re shopping now but may limit upside if you plan to resell soon. Even so, the model’s broad appeal, strong reputation, and steady demand should help it remain easy to move when it’s time to sell. The price trend also implies that well-kept examples should hold their value better than neglected ones, especially if they have clean history and desirable equipment.

Vehicles with solid owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.43/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2021 Toyota Corolla safe?

The 2021 Corolla earns a Top Safety Pick rating from IIHS in the prior model year context, and NHTSA gave the 2020 Corolla a five-star overall rating.

It earns a 9/10 safety score from our experts.

Toyota Safety Sense 2.0 is standard and includes adaptive cruise control, forward collision warning, pedestrian detection and cyclist detection, automatic emergency braking, lane-departure warning, lane-keeping assistance, lane-centering assistance, and automatic high-beam headlights. Rear side-impact airbags are also standard for 2021, and the available blind-spot warning system adds rear cross-traffic warning. The expert review notes that adaptive cruise control can brake unevenly at times and lane-centering may occasionally need driver override, so the system is strong overall but not flawless.

Should I buy a 2021 Toyota Corolla or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2021 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2021 if:

• 32.8% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• At 63.8% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 3.60% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.43/5 — a solid satisfaction signal.
• The 2021 stands out for its sportier SE and XSE trims, standard advanced safety, and available manual transmission.

Consider the 2020 if:

• At $16,718, the 2020 costs less than the current year's $17,082 average.
• It adds style and a bit of excitement to the Corolla formula.

Consider the 2022 if:

• At $18,544, the 2022 costs more than the current year's $17,082 average.
• It broadens configuration choices with sedan, hatchback, hybrid, and more trim variety.

The bottom line: If you want the best mix of price, features, and personality, the 2021 is the sweet spot to target. If your budget is tighter, the 2020 can save you money while keeping the Corolla’s core strengths intact. If you want more configuration flexibility and don’t mind paying more, the 2022 is the better year to explore.
