Used 2021 Hyundai Elantra for Sale nearSilver Spring, MD

How much does the 2021 Hyundai Elantra cost?

Prices have softened 3.61% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.

There are 2,184 listings available, which gives you a solid pool to compare prices and equipment.

Is the 2021 Hyundai Elantra a good car?

Yes — the 2021 Hyundai Elantra earns a 4.5/5 user rating and an 8.83/10 expert rating. The standout strength is Cost effectiveness at 10/10.

Owners consistently praise its smooth ride, great fuel economy, and comfortable seating, and they also see it as a strong value with attractive features. That lines up well with the car’s broader appeal as a compact sedan that delivers style, technology, and sophistication without pushing you into a luxury price bracket.

The trade-offs are worth keeping in mind: the design can be polarizing, and the interior materials are described as feeling cheap. For you, that means the Elantra makes the most sense if you prioritize value, comfort, and tech over a more premium cabin presentation.

With 32.7% of listings marked as good or great deals, the market still gives you some room to shop selectively.

Is the 2021 Hyundai Elantra reliable?

Owners rate it 4.5/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

The owner feedback points to a car people feel good about living with over time, especially because it is described as a dependable value with smooth ride quality and strong fuel economy. That kind of everyday consistency matters if you want a used sedan you can count on for routine commuting and low-stress ownership.

The expert review also reinforces that impression by describing the Elantra as a bargain with strong warranty coverage and three free years of scheduled maintenance. For used buyers, the main long-term risk is less about the car’s core durability and more about finding one that has been maintained well and not worn down by heavy use.

What should I look for when buying a used 2021 Hyundai Elantra?

At 68.5% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.

You should start with a vehicle history report and then prioritize a careful inspection of bodywork, panel alignment, and signs of prior repair. It also makes sense to focus on cabin condition and feature operation, since the Elantra’s appeal depends heavily on its tech, comfort, and overall presentation.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The car comes in SE, SEL, N Line, and Limited trim. The higher you go, the nicer and higher-tech the cabin gets, while the base setup is more basic in presentation.
• Powertrain: The standard setup uses a 2.0-liter 4-cylinder engine with a CVT and front-wheel drive. The hybrid uses a 1.6-liter Atkinson-cycle engine with an electric motor and a six-speed dry DCT, while the N Line adds a turbocharged 1.6-liter engine with either a manual or DCT.
• Safety package: Every version includes SmartSense, with forward collision warning with pedestrian detection, automatic emergency braking, lane-departure warning, lane-keeping assistance, lane-centering assistance, automatic high-beam headlights, and driver attention warning. Blind-spot warning, rear cross-traffic warning, Rear Occupant Alert, and Safe Exit Warning are also standard.
• Infotainment: SE, SEL, and N Line use an 8-inch touchscreen with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Limited upgrades to a 10.25-inch touchscreen with navigation and a 10.25-inch digital instrument screen, but you lose wireless smartphone integration.
• Fuel efficiency: The standard engine is rated at 35 mpg in combined driving with 17-inch wheels, the hybrid SEL is rated at 54 mpg in combined driving, the hybrid Limited is rated at 50 mpg in combined driving, and the N Line is rated at 28 mpg in combined driving.

Which 2021 Hyundai Elantra trim should I buy?

The 2021 Hyundai Elantra is offered in 4 trim levels: SE, SEL, N Line, and Limited.

Here's the short version:

• SE: This is the simplest path into the redesigned Elantra, so it makes sense if you want the lowest-cost version and are comfortable giving up the richer cabin and extra tech found higher up the range.
• SEL: This is the best-value trim for many shoppers because it adds more equipment and can be paired with the hybrid powertrain, giving you a stronger mix of efficiency and everyday comfort.
• N Line: Choose this if you want the sportier personality, since it adds the turbocharged engine, manual or DCT transmission choice, sport suspension tuning, and a more engaging driving feel.
• Limited: This is the trim to buy if you want the most upscale experience, with the larger dual-screen setup, navigation, ambient lighting, and the most polished cabin presentation.

Safety content notes that every version gets SmartSense, so you do not need to move up a trim just to get the core driver-assistance suite.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2021 Hyundai Elantra?

This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop carefully and still find worthwhile listings.

• Deal availability: 32.7% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 2,184 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 3.61% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 68.5% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $15,366, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2021 Hyundai Elantra's resale value?

The current average of $15,827 sits slightly below last year's $16,420.

That softer pricing suggests the market has become a little more favorable for buyers, which can work against you if you plan to sell soon. On the other hand, it also means the car is already priced with some depreciation baked in, which can help limit how much value you lose from here.

If you keep mileage reasonable and maintain the car well, the Elantra’s strong value reputation should help it remain appealing to future shoppers. Features, condition, and accident history will matter a lot when it comes time to resell.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.5/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2021 Hyundai Elantra safe?

The 2021 Hyundai Elantra earns a Top Safety Pick rating from IIHS and a five-star overall rating from NHTSA.

It earns a 9/10 safety score from our experts.

Every 2021 Elantra comes with SmartSense, Hyundai’s ADAS suite. Standard features include forward collision warning with pedestrian detection, automatic emergency braking, lane-departure warning, lane-keeping assistance, lane-centering assistance, automatic high-beam headlights, driver attention warning, blind-spot warning, rear cross-traffic warning, Rear Occupant Alert, and Safe Exit Warning.

Higher-level safety upgrades include cyclist detection, junction turning assistance, adaptive cruise control with stop-and-go capability, rear automatic braking, and Highway Drive Assist. The main caveat is that some of those advanced features are reserved for higher trims, so you should confirm the exact equipment on any used listing you’re considering.

Should I buy a 2021 Hyundai Elantra or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2021 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2021 if:

• 32.7% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• At 68.5% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 3.61% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.5/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• The redesign brings a broader mix of style, technology, space, and value than the outgoing model.

Consider the 2020 if:

• At $13,646, the 2020 costs less than the current year's $15,827 average.
• It adds useful updates like free scheduled maintenance and improved fuel economy.

Consider the 2022 if:

• At $17,009, the 2022 costs more than the current year's $15,827 average.
• It continues the redesign’s strong mix of style, efficiency, safety tech, and value.

The bottom line: If you want the best balance of price, features, and overall appeal, the 2021 is the sweet spot to target. If your budget is tighter, the 2020 can save you money, while the 2022 makes sense if you want to spend more for a newer example with the same core strengths.
