How much does the 2021 Ford Mustang cost?

Prices have softened 2.51% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.

There are 2,189 listings available, which gives you a solid pool of cars to compare on price and condition.

Is the 2021 Ford Mustang a good car?

Yes — the 2021 Ford Mustang earns a 4.71/5 user rating, and our experts give it an 8.17/10 overall score.

The model scores 9/10 across Performance, Cost effectiveness, and Safety.

Owners consistently praise its performance, styling, and features, and many also like the fun driving experience and the available manual transmission. The Mustang’s broad appeal comes through clearly in its blend of heritage and modern technology, especially for buyers who want performance without giving up everyday usability.

The main trade-offs are poor visibility, a cramped back seat, and limited cargo space. Those compromises matter most if you need a practical daily driver rather than a characterful sports car.

With 32.0% of listings priced as good or great deals, you still have room to shop selectively.

Is the 2021 Ford Mustang reliable?

Owners rate it 4.71/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

User feedback points to a car that owners feel good about living with over time, with repeated praise for its performance, looks, and features. The expert review also describes the Mustang as a car that blends modern technology with a familiar formula, and it emphasizes the factory warranty as part of the appeal on higher-performance versions.

Ford’s standard maintenance coverage also helps reduce early ownership friction on this model year.

For used buyers, the main long-term risk is less about the badge and more about how hard the car was driven and maintained.

What should I look for when buying a used 2021 Ford Mustang?

At 72% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.

You should start with a vehicle history report and then prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially if you’re considering a higher-performance trim or a car with modifications. Focus on condition, maintenance records, and signs of hard use, since sports cars can hide wear that isn’t obvious in photos. If you’re comparing multiple listings, put the cleanest history and best documentation ahead of cosmetic extras.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The base EcoBoost includes 17-inch alloy wheels, manual seats, pushbutton start, power door locks, power windows, a leather-wrapped shift knob, 4G LTE WiFi, a six-speaker stereo, and the basic Sync system with a 4.2-inch touchscreen and voice control. EcoBoost Premium adds 18-inch wheels, LED fog lights, ambient lighting, dual-zone climate control, power-adjustable heated and cooled front seats, and Sync 3 with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. GT and GT Premium add V8 power, with the Premium trim bringing leather-trimmed front seats and more convenience features. Mach 1 adds more performance-focused hardware and a more upscale equipment mix.
• Powertrain: The EcoBoost uses a 2.3-liter turbocharged four-cylinder with 310 horsepower and 350 pound-feet of torque, or 330 hp with the High-Performance Package. The GT uses a 5.0-liter V8 with 460 hp and 420 lb-ft, while the Mach 1 raises output to 480 hp. Both engines can be paired with a six-speed manual or a 10-speed automatic, and all versions are rear-wheel drive.
• Safety package: Ford Co-Pilot360 is standard and includes automatic emergency braking, forward-collision warning, pedestrian detection, lane-departure warning, blind-spot monitoring, rain-sensing wipers, and automatic high beams. Adaptive cruise control and parking sensors still cost extra.
• Infotainment: The base car gets a 4.2-inch display with voice controls. Sync 3 brings an 8-inch touchscreen, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and a cleaner interface, but you need to move up from the base setup to get it.
• Fuel efficiency: The most efficient version is the 2.3-liter EcoBoost with the 10-speed automatic, at 21 mpg city, 32 mpg highway, and 25 mpg combined. The V8 GT with the automatic returns 19 mpg city, 24 mpg highway, and 19 mpg combined. The Mach 1 is estimated at 15 mpg city, 23 mpg highway, and 18 mpg combined.

Which 2021 Ford Mustang trim should I buy?

The 2021 Ford Mustang is offered in 5 trim levels: EcoBoost, EcoBoost Premium, GT, GT Premium, and Mach 1.

Here's the short version:

• EcoBoost: This is the entry point, and it gives you the Mustang experience at the lowest price. You still get the standard safety suite, 4G LTE WiFi, and the core sports-car styling, but the base infotainment and seat equipment are the most basic. It makes sense if you want the look and driving character without stretching your budget.
• EcoBoost Premium: This is the best-value trim for many shoppers because it adds the 8-inch Sync 3 system, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, heated and cooled front seats, dual-zone climate control, and more visual polish. If you want the most everyday comfort without jumping to V8 pricing, this is the trim to target.
• GT: This is the right choice if you want the V8 experience. It adds the 5.0-liter engine, dual exhaust tips, unique badging, and a more serious performance character, but it keeps the equipment closer to the lower trims than the GT Premium does.
• GT Premium: This is the better pick if you want V8 power plus more comfort and a richer cabin. It adds leather-trimmed front seats and more of the convenience features that make the car easier to live with.
• Mach 1: This is the enthusiast choice. It adds more performance hardware, a digital instrument panel, and chassis upgrades that make it the most focused version in the lineup. It suits you best if you want the sharpest factory Mustang and are willing to pay for it.

Ford Co-Pilot360 is standard across the lineup, but adaptive cruise control and parking sensors still require extra cost.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2021 Ford Mustang?

This is a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop carefully and still find worthwhile listings.

• Deal availability: 32.0% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 2,189 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 2.51% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 72.0% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $28,467, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2021 Ford Mustang's resale value?

The current average of $30,461 sits slightly below last year's $31,245.

That softer pricing suggests the market has eased a bit, which can help you buy more selectively now. For a future seller, it also means you should expect resale value to depend heavily on trim, condition, mileage, and documentation rather than just the badge alone. Well-kept examples with desirable equipment should hold up better than rougher cars or heavily modified ones.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.71/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2021 Ford Mustang safe?

The 2021 Ford Mustang earns a 9/10 safety score from our experts.

Ford’s Co-Pilot360 suite is standard, and it includes automatic emergency braking, forward-collision warning, pedestrian detection, lane-departure warning, blind-spot monitoring, rain-sensing wipers, and automatic high beams. That gives you a strong set of driver-assistance features right from the start, though adaptive cruise control and parking sensors still cost extra.

The review also notes that visibility is good for an American sports car, which helps everyday confidence. If you want the most complete safety setup, you’ll need to check whether a specific listing includes the optional extras.

Should I buy a 2021 Ford Mustang or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2021 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2021 if:

• 32.0% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• At 72% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 2.51% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.71/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• The 2021 adds the Mach 1 trim, giving you a more focused performance option within the lineup.

Consider the 2020 if:

• At $25,683, the 2020 costs less than the current year's $30,461 average.
• It offers a nostalgic take on the Mustang with broad powertrain choice and strong value for money.

The bottom line: If you want the newer model year with a broader trim story and a softer market price, the 2021 is the better all-around pick. If your priority is spending less up front, the 2020 is the smarter value play, especially if you find a clean, well-documented example.
