How much does the 2021 Ford Mustang cost?

Prices have softened 2.31% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.

There are 2,176 listings available, which gives you a solid amount of inventory to compare across trims and conditions.

Is the 2021 Ford Mustang a good car?

Yes — the 2021 Ford Mustang earns a 4.7/5 user rating and an 8.2/10 expert rating. The model scores 9/10 across Performance, Cost effectiveness, and Safety.

Owners consistently praise its performance, styling, and features, and many also like the fun driving experience and strong appeal of the GT model. The Mustang’s broad lineup and modern tech help it work as a performance car with everyday usability, especially if you want something distinctive rather than generic.

The trade-offs are familiar: poor visibility, a cramped back seat, and limited cargo space. That means it fits you best if you care more about character and driving enjoyment than practicality.

With 29.8% of listings marked as good or great deals, you have a decent chance of finding a competitive offer.

Is the 2021 Ford Mustang reliable?

Owners rate it 4.7/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

User feedback points to a car that owners feel good about living with over time, with praise centered on performance, looks, and features. The expert review also describes it as a car that blends modern technology with a familiar formula, which supports the sense that it is built to be enjoyed for the long haul.

Ford’s standard driver-assistance suite adds everyday dependability with automatic emergency braking, forward-collision warning, pedestrian detection, lane-departure warning, blind-spot monitoring, rain-sensing wipers, and automatic high beams. For used buyers, the main long-term risk is less about the concept and more about finding a well-kept example with the right maintenance history.

What should I look for when buying a used 2021 Ford Mustang?

At 71.7% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.

You should start with a vehicle history report and then prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially if the car has been modified or driven hard. Focus on condition, maintenance records, and whether the equipment matches the trim you want, since the Mustang lineup varies a lot by price and features.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The base EcoBoost includes 17-inch alloy wheels, manual seats, pushbutton start, power door locks, power windows, a leather-wrapped shift knob, 4G LTE WiFi, a six-speaker stereo, and the basic Sync system with a 4.2-inch touchscreen and voice control. EcoBoost Premium adds 18-inch wheels, a black decklid spoiler, LED fog lights, ambient lighting, dual-zone climate control, power-adjustable front seats, heated and cooled front seats, two USB ports, and Sync 3 with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. GT builds on the EcoBoost with a 5.0-liter V8, dual exhaust tips, unique badging, and a unique grille. GT Premium adds leather-trimmed front seats, vinyl back seats, and two smart-charging USB ports. Mach 1 adds performance-focused hardware, a fully digital instrument panel, power-adjustable front seats, a split-fold rear bench, and illuminated door scuff plates.
• Powertrain: The EcoBoost uses a 2.3-liter turbocharged four-cylinder with 310 horsepower and 350 pound-feet of torque, while the GT uses a 5.0-liter V8 with 460 hp and 420 lb-ft. The Mach 1 uses the GT’s V8 with an additional 20 hp for 480 hp total. Both engines can be paired with a six-speed manual or a 10-speed automatic, and all are rear-wheel drive.
• Safety package: Ford Co-Pilot360 is standard and includes automatic emergency braking, forward-collision warning, pedestrian detection, lane-departure warning, blind-spot monitoring, rain-sensing wipers, and automatic high beams. Adaptive cruise control and parking sensors still cost extra.
• Infotainment: The base car gets a 4.2-inch display with voice controls. Sync 3 brings an 8-inch touchscreen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and it is standard on Premium trims or available as an option.
• Fuel efficiency: The EcoBoost with the 10-speed automatic returns 21 mpg city, 32 mpg highway, and 25 mpg combined. The V8-powered GT with the automatic returns 19 mpg city, 24 mpg highway, and 19 mpg combined. The Mach 1 is estimated at 15 mpg city, 23 mpg highway, and 18 mpg combined.

Which 2021 Ford Mustang trim should I buy?

The 2021 Ford Mustang is offered in 5 trim levels: EcoBoost, EcoBoost Premium, GT, GT Premium, and Mach 1.

Here's the short version:

• EcoBoost: This is the value play if you want the Mustang look, standard driver-assistance tech, and the 310-horsepower turbo-four without paying for extras.
• EcoBoost Premium: This is the best-value trim for most shoppers because it adds Sync 3, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, heated and cooled front seats, dual-zone climate control, and more comfort features.
• GT: Choose this if you want the V8 experience, since it adds the 5.0-liter engine and the more serious performance character that defines the Mustang for many buyers.
• GT Premium: This is the better choice if you want the GT’s V8 plus more upscale cabin equipment, including leather-trimmed front seats and additional convenience features.
• Mach 1: Pick this if you want the most performance-focused version in this lineup, with added hardware and track-oriented upgrades that make it the enthusiast’s choice.

Ford’s standard CoPilot360 suite is included across the lineup, but adaptive cruise control and parking sensors still require extra cost.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2021 Ford Mustang?

This is a moderate market for selective buyers, so you can shop carefully without feeling rushed.

• Deal availability: 29.8% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 2,176 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 2.31% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 71.7% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $28,456, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2021 Ford Mustang's resale value?

The current average of $30,386 sits slightly below last year's $31,104.

That tells you the market has softened a bit, which can help you as a buyer now but may temper resale gains later. If you plan to sell in a few years, the current trend suggests you should expect value to depend heavily on trim, condition, and mileage rather than broad market appreciation.

Strong owner satisfaction can help support demand when it is time to sell. Well-kept Mustangs with desirable equipment should remain easier to move than less appealing examples.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.7/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2021 Ford Mustang safe?

The 2021 Ford Mustang earns a 9/10 safety score from our experts.

Ford’s CoPilot360 suite is standard and includes automatic emergency braking, forward-collision warning, pedestrian detection, lane-departure warning, blind-spot monitoring, rain-sensing wipers, and automatic high beams. Adaptive cruise control and parking sensors are still optional, so you may need to shop higher or pay extra if you want those features.

One caveat is that the Mustang still has the usual sports-car compromises in visibility and packaging, so safety tech helps offset some of that. For used buyers, it is a strong safety setup, but not every convenience feature comes standard.

Should I buy a 2021 Ford Mustang or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2021 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2021 if:

• 29.8% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• At 71.7% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 2.31% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.7/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• The 2021 stands out for adding the Mach 1 trim and pairing modern tech with classic Mustang character.

Consider the 2020 if:

• At $25,695, the 2020 costs less than the current year's $30,386 average.
• It offers a nostalgic take on the Mustang with broad powertrain choice and strong value for money.

The bottom line: If you want the most current mix of features, safety tech, and trim variety, the 2021 is the better target. If your priority is spending less up front, the 2020 is the smarter budget path.
