How much does the 2021 Ford Mustang cost?

Prices have softened 1.71% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.

There are 2,197 listings available, which gives you a solid amount of inventory to compare.

Is the 2021 Ford Mustang a good car?

Yes — the 2021 Ford Mustang earns a 4.7/5 from owners and an 8.2/10 from experts. The model scores 9/10 across Performance, Cost effectiveness, and Safety.

Owners consistently praise its performance, styling, and features, and many also highlight the fun driving experience and strong appeal of the GT model. The Mustang’s classic look with modern technology gives you a distinctive sports car that still feels usable day to day.

The trade-offs are clear: visibility is poor, the back seat is cramped, and cargo space is limited. That makes it a better fit if you care more about character and driving enjoyment than everyday practicality.

With 31.8% of listings marked as good or great deals, you have some room to shop selectively.

Is the 2021 Ford Mustang reliable?

Owners rate it 4.7/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

Owner feedback points to a car that feels dependable enough to inspire repeat enthusiasm, with many drivers describing it as fun, satisfying, and easy to enjoy over time. The review summary also suggests that buyers value the Mustang’s performance and looks while still expecting it to hold up as a car they can count on.

The expert review reinforces that sense of durability by describing the Mustang as a well-developed sports car with modern technology and broad appeal. Ford’s standard maintenance coverage also helps reduce early ownership friction.

For used buyers, the main long-term risk is less about the badge and more about how the car was driven and maintained, so condition matters a lot.

What should I look for when buying a used 2021 Ford Mustang?

At 71.3% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.

You should start with a vehicle history report and then prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially if the car has been modified or driven hard. Focus on body condition, tire wear, brake condition, and signs of uneven panel gaps or repair work. If you want the cleanest ownership experience, look for a well-documented car with consistent maintenance and no signs of abuse.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The base EcoBoost includes 17-inch alloy wheels, manual seats, pushbutton start, power door locks, power windows, a leather-wrapped shift knob, 4G LTE WiFi, a six-speaker stereo, and the basic version of Ford’s Sync infotainment system with a 4.2-inch touchscreen and voice control. Moving up to EcoBoost Premium adds 18-inch alloy wheels, a black decklid spoiler, LED fog lights, ambient cabin lighting, dual-zone climate control, power-adjustable front seats, heated and cooled front seats, two USB ports, and Sync 3 with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. The GT builds on the EcoBoost and adds a 5.0-liter V8 engine, dual exhaust tips, unique badging, and a unique grille. The GT Premium adds leather-trimmed front seats, vinyl back seats, and two smart-charging USB ports. The Mach 1 adds a fully-digital instrument panel, power-adjustable front seats, a split-fold rear bench, illuminated door scuff plates, and performance-focused hardware.
• Powertrain: The EcoBoost uses a 2.3-liter turbocharged four-cylinder with 310 horsepower and 350 pound-feet of torque, while the GT uses a 5.0-liter V8 with 460 hp and 420 lb-ft. The Mach 1 adds 20 hp over the GT for a total of 480 hp. Both engines can be paired with a six-speed manual or an available 10-speed automatic, and both are rear-wheel drive.
• Safety package: Ford Co-Pilot360 is standard and includes automatic emergency braking, forward-collision warning, pedestrian detection, lane-departure warning, blind-spot monitoring, rain-sensing wipers, and automatic high beams. Adaptive cruise control and parking sensors still cost extra.
• Infotainment: The base car gets a 4.2-inch color display with voice controls. Sync 3 brings an 8-inch touchscreen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and it is the better setup if you want easier everyday usability.
• Fuel efficiency: The EcoBoost with the 10-speed automatic returns 21 mpg city, 32 mpg highway, and 25 mpg combined. The V8-powered Mustang GT with the automatic returns 19 mpg city, 24 mpg highway, and 19 mpg combined. The Mach 1 is estimated at 15 mpg city, 23 mpg highway, and 18 mpg combined.

Which 2021 Ford Mustang trim should I buy?

The 2021 Ford Mustang is offered in 5 trim levels: EcoBoost, EcoBoost Premium, GT, GT Premium, and Mach 1.

Here's the short version:

• EcoBoost: This is the entry point, and it gives you the Mustang experience at the lowest price while still including standard driver-assistance tech and the core infotainment setup. It makes the most sense if you want the badge, the styling, and the driving character without stretching your budget.
• EcoBoost Premium: This is the best-value trim if you want the Mustang to feel more complete. The added heated and cooled front seats, dual-zone climate control, Sync 3, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and upgraded lighting make it the easiest trim to live with every day.
• GT: Choose this if you want the V8 experience and care more about performance than comfort upgrades. It adds the 5.0-liter engine and the more aggressive mechanical character that defines the Mustang for many enthusiasts.
• GT Premium: This is the better pick if you want the V8 but also want a more upscale cabin. The leather-trimmed front seats and added convenience features make it the most balanced V8 trim for many shoppers.
• Mach 1: This is the enthusiast choice if you want the most focused factory performance setup in this lineup. It adds serious hardware and a more specialized character, so it suits you best if driving excitement matters more than everyday compromise.

Ford’s standard Co-Pilot360 suite is included across the lineup, but adaptive cruise control and parking sensors still require extra cost.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2021 Ford Mustang?

This is a moderate market for selective buyers, so you can shop with some leverage if you compare listings carefully.

• Deal availability: 31.8% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 2,197 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 1.71% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 71.3% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $28,458, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2021 Ford Mustang's resale value?

The current average of $30,519 sits slightly below last year's $31,049.

That softer pricing suggests the Mustang is not in a rising-value phase right now, which can help you as a buyer but may temper near-term resale upside if you plan to sell soon. If you buy at the right price and keep the car in strong condition, you can still protect value reasonably well.

The year’s lower average price also means future sellers may need to be realistic about market expectations rather than assuming appreciation. Well-kept examples with desirable equipment should still draw attention, but condition and trim choice will matter a lot.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.7/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2021 Ford Mustang safe?

The 2021 Ford Mustang earns a 9/10 safety score from our experts.

Ford’s standard Co-Pilot360 suite includes automatic emergency braking, forward-collision warning, pedestrian detection, lane-departure warning, blind-spot monitoring, rain-sensing wipers, and automatic high beams. Adaptive cruise control and parking sensors are still optional, so you may need to step up or pay extra if you want a fuller convenience-and-safety setup.

The review also notes that visibility is good for an American sports car, which helps reduce one of the Mustang’s traditional weaknesses. That said, some advanced features still cost extra, so you should check the equipment list carefully on any used example.

Should I buy a 2021 Ford Mustang or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2021 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2021 if:

• 31.8% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• At 71.3% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 1.71% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.7/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• The 2021 adds the new Mach 1 trim, giving you a more focused performance option.

Consider the 2020 if:

• At $25,621, the 2020 costs less than the current year's $30,519 average.
• It offers a nostalgic take on the Mustang with broad powertrain choice and strong value for money.

The bottom line: If you want the newer model-year lineup and the added Mach 1 option, the 2021 is the better target. If your priority is spending less up front, the 2020 is the more budget-friendly path and still delivers the Mustang formula.
