How much does the 2021 Ford Mustang cost?

Prices have softened 1.83% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.

There are 2,091 listings available, which gives you a solid amount of inventory to compare.

Is the 2021 Ford Mustang a good car?

Yes — the 2021 Ford Mustang earns a 4.7/5 user rating and an 8.2/10 expert rating. The model scores 9/10 across Performance, Cost effectiveness, and Safety.

Owners consistently praise its performance, looks, and features, and many highlight how exciting and fun it is to drive. The Mustang’s styling also stands out, and reviewers note that it delivers decent fuel economy for a V8. On the trade-off side, some owners mention value-for-money concerns and uneven warranty experiences.

That lines up with the car’s use case: you’re getting a performance-focused coupe that still offers modern tech and broad trim choice, rather than a purely practical daily driver. The market also shows 34.1% good or great deals, so you have room to shop selectively.

Is the 2021 Ford Mustang reliable?

Owners rate it 4.7/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

User feedback points to a car that owners feel good about living with over time, especially when it comes to performance and overall enjoyment. The expert review also describes the Mustang as a fun-to-drive sports car with modern creature comforts, which supports the idea that it’s built to be used and enjoyed regularly. Ford’s standard maintenance coverage is not called out here, so your best protection as a used buyer is to focus on service records and overall condition.

For long-term ownership, the main risk is less about the Mustang’s appeal and more about how hard previous owners may have driven it.

What should I look for when buying a used 2021 Ford Mustang?

At 70% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.

You should start with a vehicle history report and then prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially if you’re considering a higher-performance trim. Pay close attention to signs of wear from spirited driving, uneven tire wear, and any evidence of incomplete repairs. Because this car is often bought for performance, condition matters as much as mileage.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The base EcoBoost includes 17-inch alloy wheels, manual seats, pushbutton start, power windows and locks, a leather-wrapped shift knob, 4G LTE WiFi, a six-speaker stereo, and the basic Sync system with a 4.2-inch touchscreen and voice control. EcoBoost Premium adds 18-inch wheels, LED fog lights, ambient lighting, dual-zone climate control, power-adjustable heated and cooled front seats, and Sync 3 with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. GT and GT Premium add V8 power, with the Premium version bringing more comfort and convenience features. Mach 1 adds more performance hardware and a more specialized feel.
• Powertrain: The EcoBoost uses a 2.3-liter turbocharged four-cylinder with 310 horsepower and 350 pound-feet of torque, with an available High-Performance Package that raises output to 330 hp. The GT uses a 5.0-liter V8 with 460 hp and 420 lb-ft, while the Mach 1 increases that to 480 hp. Both engines can be paired with a six-speed manual or a 10-speed automatic, and all versions are rear-wheel drive.
• Safety package: Ford Co-Pilot360 is standard and includes automatic emergency braking, forward-collision warning, pedestrian detection, lane-departure warning, blind-spot monitoring, rain-sensing wipers, and automatic high beams. Adaptive cruise control and parking sensors still cost extra.
• Infotainment: The base car gets a 4.2-inch display, while Sync 3 brings an 8-inch touchscreen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. The system is easy to use, but there is no dedicated home button below the screen.
• Fuel efficiency: The EcoBoost with the 10-speed automatic returns 21 mpg city, 32 mpg highway, and 25 mpg combined. The GT with the automatic returns 19 mpg city, 24 mpg highway, and 19 mpg combined. The Mach 1 is estimated at 15 mpg city, 23 mpg highway, and 18 mpg combined.

Which 2021 Ford Mustang trim should I buy?

The 2021 Ford Mustang is offered in 5 trim levels: EcoBoost, EcoBoost Premium, GT, GT Premium, and Mach 1.

Here's the short version:

• EcoBoost: This is the entry point, and it gives you the Mustang experience at the lowest price. It’s the trim to consider if you want the styling, standard driver-assistance tech, and strong efficiency without paying for V8 power.
• EcoBoost Premium: This is the best-value trim for many shoppers because it adds the nicer cabin, heated and cooled front seats, and Sync 3 with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. If you want the most everyday comfort without jumping to V8 pricing, this is the one to target.
• GT: Choose this if you want the Mustang’s V8 character and stronger straight-line performance. It adds the 5.0-liter engine and more aggressive hardware, but it keeps more of the simpler EcoBoost equipment than the Premium trims.
• GT Premium: This is the better choice if you want V8 power and a more upscale interior. It adds leather-trimmed front seats and more convenience features, making it the more complete grand-touring version.
• Mach 1: This is the enthusiast pick, with more performance hardware and a more specialized setup. It’s the trim to buy if you want the most focused driving experience and don’t mind paying for it.

Ford Co-Pilot360 is standard, but adaptive cruise control and parking sensors still require extra cost.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2021 Ford Mustang?

The market looks selective rather than overheated, so you can shop with patience and still find worthwhile listings.

• Deal availability: 34.1% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 2,091 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 1.83% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 70.0% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $28,489, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2021 Ford Mustang's resale value?

The current average of $30,492 sits slightly below last year's $31,061.

That tells you the Mustang has softened a bit, which can help you as a buyer now but may temper short-term upside if you plan to resell soon. Even so, the price movement is modest rather than dramatic, so the model still appears to hold a fairly stable position in the used market. If you buy well and keep the car in strong condition, you should be able to preserve a reasonable share of its value.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.7/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2021 Ford Mustang safe?

The 2021 Ford Mustang earns a 9/10 safety score from our experts.

Ford Co-Pilot360 is standard, and it includes automatic emergency braking, forward-collision warning, pedestrian detection, lane-departure warning, blind-spot monitoring, rain-sensing wipers, and automatic high beams. That gives you a strong baseline of active safety equipment even on the lower trims. Adaptive cruise control and parking sensors are still optional, so you’ll need to move up or pay extra if you want those features.

The review also notes that visibility is good for an American sports car, which is a meaningful plus in a segment where sight lines can be compromised.

Should I buy a 2021 Ford Mustang or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2021 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2021 if:

• 34.1% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• At 70% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 1.83% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.7/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• Ford added the new Mach 1 trim for 2021, expanding the lineup with a more focused performance option.

Consider the 2020 if:

• At $25,418, the 2020 costs less than the current year's $30,492 average.
• It offers strong value, multiple powertrain choices, and broad appeal.

The bottom line: If you want the newer model-year mix of features, standard safety tech, and the Mach 1 addition, the 2021 is the better all-around pick. If your priority is spending less up front, the 2020 is the smarter value play.

How does the 2021 Ford Mustang compare to the 2021 Chevrolet Camaro?

Expert Pros & Cons (per CarGurus review team)

2021 Ford Mustang:

• Pros: Stylish design, Fun to drive, Manual transmission available.
• Cons: Poor visibility, Cramped back seat, Not much cargo space.

2021 Chevrolet Camaro:

• Pros: Stylish design, Fun to drive, Powerful engine.
• Cons: Poor visibility, Underwhelming base engine, Cramped back seat.

Our experts score the 2021 Ford Mustang 8.2/10 and the 2021 Chevrolet Camaro 8/10. The Mustang has the edge if you want a broader trim lineup and the option of a manual transmission. The Camaro counters with a lower starting MSRP and a more powerful-feeling base engine, but it also has the weaker base engine complaint and the same visibility and rear-seat drawbacks. If you want the more approachable all-around sports car, the Mustang is the better fit; if you’re shopping strictly on starting price, the Camaro has the advantage.
