Why it stands out
The 2021 Ford Bronco Sport stands out as a lively, capable, and attractive compact two-row crossover SUV that is meant to feel at home both on pavement and off it. Ford’s own test-drive impression describes it as a spunky companion for on- and off-pavement adventures, and that character is reinforced by its great handling and stylish design. It also brings impressive technology, which helps give it a more modern feel than its rugged looks might suggest.
At the same time, the 2021 Ford Bronco Sport is not without compromises. The main drawback called out in testing is that the interior materials feel cheap, and owner feedback echoes concerns about cabin quality, especially the small back seat. Even so, its blend of style, capability, and engaging road manners makes it appealing to buyers who want a compact SUV with a more adventurous personality.

This is the car I ended up getting and it was amazing!! I love the cute features of the bronco tied with its functionality. I do a lot of highway driving but also love to go on adventures and do a bit of off-roading this is the perfect vehicle for both.

This is the first vehicle I have ever purchased without having the opportunity to see it in advance, due to the shortage of vehicles overall. I enjoy the performance and handling thus far. Great turning radius. I very much enjoy the medium size of the vehicle as an SUV. It is not compact yet it is not bulky. There is ample room in the back for most needs, especially with the rear seats folded down. The leg room in the back seat is limited, but adequate. I am glad to have purchased the upgraded Outer Banks Model. The added features were worth the cost of the upgrade.

CarGurus tracks the prices of millions of used car listings every year. See how the average price of 2021 Ford Bronco Sport prices has changed over time.
See more price trendsHow much does the 2021 Ford Bronco Sport cost?
| Metric | Value |
|---|---|
| Current Average Price | $20,812 |

| Year-Round High | $23,012.61 |
| Average Price a Year Ago | $23,009 |

Prices have softened 9.55% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.
There are 3,159 listings available, which suggests solid inventory for comparison shopping.
If you find a listing below $20,540.62, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
Is the 2021 Ford Bronco Sport a good car?
Generally — 4.15/5 from owners, which points to a well-liked used SUV overall. The expert test-drive score is 7.33/10.
The model scores 8/10 across Look and feel, Performance, and Cost effectiveness.
Owners repeatedly praise its style, good fuel economy, and off-road capability, and they also describe it as a favorite for adventurous driving. The main trade-offs are the cheap-feeling interior materials and a small back seat, with some owners also calling out the Auto-Stop feature as annoying.
That lines up with the overview: you get a compact two-row crossover that feels lively on pavement and capable off it, but you should expect some cabin-quality compromises. With 31.9% of listings marked as good or great deals, there’s enough market flexibility to shop carefully.
Is the 2021 Ford Bronco Sport reliable?
Owners rate it 4.15/5, a solid signal of long-term satisfaction.
Owner feedback points to a vehicle that many drivers feel good about living with over time, especially when it comes to its adventurous character and day-to-day usability. The review summary also highlights good fuel economy and off-road capability, which can matter if you want a compact SUV that does more than commute.
The expert drive notes that it has good manners on pavement, and the 1.5-liter and 2.0-liter setups are both described in ways that suggest the trucklet is built for real-world use rather than just image. If you’re buying used, the biggest long-term ownership risk is likely to come from condition and prior use rather than from the vehicle’s basic appeal.
What should I look for when buying a used 2021 Ford Bronco Sport?
Accident-free inventory is solid at 82.7% — always verify the vehicle history report.
You should still check the history report carefully, because a clean listing percentage does not replace a proper records review. Prioritize a pre-purchase inspection that focuses on cabin wear, back-seat condition, and any signs that the vehicle was used hard on trails or rough roads. It also makes sense to confirm that the features you want are actually present, since equipment changes meaningfully by trim.
Key things to evaluate:
- Trim level: The Base model has 17-inch Sparkle Silver wheels and lacks intelligent access with push-button start, while higher trims add more upscale wheel designs and interior upgrades such as leather-trimmed, heated sport-contour bucket seats and, on the First Edition, Navy Pier Leather power front seats.
- Powertrain: The 1.5-liter EcoBoost turbocharged three-cylinder makes 181 horsepower and 190 pound-feet of torque in Base, Big Bend, and Outer Banks trims, while the 2.0-liter EcoBoost turbocharged four-cylinder makes 245 hp and 275 lb-ft in Badlands and First Edition models. All versions use an eight-speed automatic and AWD.
- Safety package: Ford Co-Pilot360 is standard on every trim and includes pre-collision assist with automatic emergency braking and pedestrian detection, forward collision warning and dynamic brake support, blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert, lane-keeping assist, auto high-beam headlamps, and a reversing camera. Co-Pilot360 Assist+ is available on all trims except Base, and road-sign recognition is not available on Big Bend.
- Infotainment: The 8-inch touchscreen runs SYNC 3 and supports Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Ford+Alexa and SiriusXM are available, FordConnect with 4G LTE WiFi hotspot is standard, and a 360-degree camera is available on Outer Banks and above.
- Fuel efficiency: The owner summary highlights good fuel economy, and the expert drive notes that the 1.5-liter engine can sound a little strained and thrashy when pressed hard.
Which 2021 Ford Bronco Sport trim should I buy?
The 2021 Ford Bronco Sport is offered in 5 trim levels: Base, Big Bend, Outer Banks, Badlands, and First Edition.
Here's the short version:
- Base trim: This is the most affordable entry point, but it misses intelligent access with push-button start and has the simplest wheel and cabin setup, so it makes the most sense if you want the lowest price and can live with fewer conveniences.
- Sweet-spot trim: Big Bend is the best value for many shoppers because it keeps the lower-priced 1.5-liter setup while moving you beyond the bare-bones feel of Base, and it still gets the standard safety suite and core tech.
- Premium/top trim: Outer Banks is the most appealing upscale choice if you want more comfort and convenience, including heated and leather-wrapped steering wheel availability, a 6.5-inch digital instrument panel, and access to more premium audio and camera options.
- Off-road trim: Badlands is the better pick if you want the stronger 2.0-liter engine, the advanced 4x4 system with twin-clutch rear-drive unit, all-terrain tires, seven G.O.A.T. modes, Trail Control, and metal bash plates.
Ford Co-Pilot360 is standard across the lineup, while Co-Pilot360 Assist+ is available on all trims except Base.
Is now a good time to buy a used 2021 Ford Bronco Sport?
This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop with some leverage but still need to move quickly on the right listing.
- Deal availability: 31.9% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Inventory: There are 3,159 listings available.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 9.55% compared with last year.
- Clean inventory: 82.7% of listings are accident-free.
If you find a listing below $20,540.62, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
What is the 2021 Ford Bronco Sport's resale value?
The current average of $20,812 sits slightly below last year's $23,009.
That price movement suggests the model has already absorbed some depreciation, which can help if you buy now and later decide to sell. A softer market today can also make it easier for you to find a fair entry price, but it may limit how much short-term appreciation you can expect.
If you keep the vehicle in strong condition and choose a desirable trim, you’ll be in a better position when it’s time to trade or sell. Vehicles with solid owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.15/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.
Is the 2021 Ford Bronco Sport safe?
It earns a 6/10 safety score from our experts.
Ford Co-Pilot360 is standard on every trim and includes pre-collision assist with automatic emergency braking and pedestrian detection, forward collision warning and dynamic brake support, blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert, lane-keeping assist, auto high-beam headlamps, and a reversing camera. Co-Pilot360 Assist+ adds adaptive cruise control with stop-and-go, lane centering, evasive steering assist, voice-activated touchscreen navigation, SiriusXM Traffic and Travel Link, and road-sign recognition, though it is not available on Base and road-sign recognition is not available on Big Bend.
All-wheel drive and the terrain management system are standard, which adds confidence in low-traction conditions. The main caveat is that crash-test ratings have not been revealed yet, so you should lean more heavily on the standard safety equipment and the vehicle’s condition when shopping used.
Should I buy a 2021 Ford Bronco Sport or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2021 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2021 if:
- 31.9% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Accident-free inventory is solid at 82.7% — always verify the vehicle history report.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 9.55% compared with last year.
- Owners rate it 4.15/5 — a solid satisfaction signal.
- After a long buildup, Ford finally made the 2021 Bronco Sport available for the media to test drive, and the result was a lively, capable, and attractive compact crossover.
The bottom line: If you want the Bronco Sport’s original mix of style, capability, and modern tech, the 2021 is a strong used-buy candidate, especially if you find a clean example with the right trim and equipment. If you’re more price-sensitive, focus on the listings that sit near the low end of the range and compare them carefully against accident history and trim content before you commit.
