CarGurus Analysis: 2021 Chevrolet Bolt EV
overall

Summary
With 173 currently listed for sale and an average price of $17,101, 34.7% of 2021 Chevrolet Bolt EV listings on CarGurus are rated as good or great deals.
Favorably reviewed: Owners rated the 2021 Chevrolet Bolt EV 3.8 / 5 stars and CarGurus experts gave it a 7.17 / 10.
83.8% of 2021 Chevrolet Bolt EV listings on CarGurus are accident free.
Why it stands out
The 2021 Chevrolet Bolt EV stands out as an affordable electric commuter car that takes a different approach from larger, luxury-minded EVs. It uses a smaller battery pack and a nimble platform to maximize efficiency, and it is presented as a more attainable option for many buyers than pricier electric alternatives. That makes it appealing if you want an EV that focuses on practicality and value rather than chasing the highest performance numbers.
Its strengths are straightforward: impressive electric range, fuel efficiency, and a spacious cabin. Those qualities help explain why it can work well as a daily driver, especially for shoppers who want an economical EV with usable room inside. The tradeoffs are also clear, though, with interior materials that feel cheap and seats that are described as uncomfortable.

Pros: -LOVE how it drives and handles the road -Feels spacious despite being compact -Easy features to use -No more gas and limited maintenance! -Awesome battery range Cons (especially related to the LT trim level): -Road noise is still very loud even though its nothing is coming from your engine. -6-speaker sound system absolutely sucks -Missing spot or sunglasses -No USB-c -No leather seats -No all-weather mats -No electric seat adjustments -Lots of plastic on the interior -No window tinting -No automatic windshield wipers -No 3D backup camera view -Get get the stupid XM radio to stop blasting me out every time I turn on my car (Apple Car play is much quieter) The 2022 (especially the 2LT trim level) looks like it is a very nice upgrade on the interior compared to the 2021.

Initial cost to purchase is low really hard to beat. Rear seat Comfort is excellent. Front seat Comfort also excellent . handles very well. Accelerates beautiful , can pass most others in a heartbeat if you’re talking about gas cars.

How much does the 2021 Chevrolet Bolt EV cost?
| Metric | Value |
|---|---|
| Current Average Price | $17,087 |
| Year-Round Low | $14,290 |
| Year-Round High | $17,320 |
| Average Price a Year Ago | $15,270 |
| Change vs. Last Year | +11.90% |
Prices are up 11.90% year-over-year — a sign of continued demand for this model year.
There are 177 listings available, which gives you a modest amount of inventory to compare.
Is the 2021 Chevrolet Bolt EV a good car?
With a user rating of 3.8/5 and an expert rating of 7.17/10, the 2021 Chevrolet Bolt EV looks like a solid value-focused EV rather than a class leader in every area.
The model scores 8/10 across Look and feel, Technology, and Safety.
Drivers consistently praise its impressive battery range, spacious cabin, and low maintenance costs, which fit the Bolt EV’s role as an affordable daily commuter. The main trade-offs are loud road noise, a subpar sound system, and cheap interior materials, so you should expect practicality over polish.
That makes the Bolt EV a strong fit if you want an economical electric commuter with usable room inside, especially if value matters more than luxury feel. With 33.9% of listings marked as good or great deals, the market still gives you some room to shop carefully.
Is the 2021 Chevrolet Bolt EV reliable?
The 2021 Chevrolet Bolt EV is presented as a practical electric commuter that emphasizes efficiency and low running costs.
Owners describe it as dependable for daily use, with praise for its low maintenance costs, impressive battery range, and overall value for money. The expert review also emphasizes that the Bolt EV’s battery pack and electric drivetrain are built around efficient, around-town use, and the battery is backed by an eight-year/100,000-mile warranty.
For used buyers, the main long-term risk is making sure the battery and charging history are healthy before you commit.
What should I look for when buying a used 2021 Chevrolet Bolt EV?
Accident-free inventory is solid at 84.2% — always verify the vehicle history report.
You should still check the history report carefully, because a clean listing percentage does not replace a proper records review. Prioritize a pre-purchase inspection that focuses on battery condition, charging behavior, and any signs of heavy wear. Since this is an EV, you should also pay close attention to how the car has been charged over time and whether it has been used mostly for home charging or frequent fast charging.
Key things to evaluate:
- Trim level: The LT gives you the core Bolt EV experience with the 10.2-inch touchscreen, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, remote start, alloy wheels, automatic climate control, dual USB ports, Bluetooth, satellite radio, and a WiFi hotspot. The Premier adds leather upholstery, heated front and rear seats, a heated steering wheel, a rear center armrest, and a removable cargo load floor. The base LT is the value play, while the Premier suits you if you want more comfort and convenience.
- Powertrain: The Bolt EV uses a front-wheel-drive electric motor setup with a 66-kilowatt-hour battery pack, 200 horsepower, and 266 pound-feet of torque. It is tuned more for quick low-speed response than outright speed, and the review notes that it feels energetic around town.
- Safety package: Chevy’s Teen Driver feature is standard, but most advanced driver-assistance features are bundled into option packages. Driver Confidence I adds rear parking sensors, lane-change alert, blind-spot monitoring, and rear cross-traffic alert. Driver Confidence II adds automatic high beams, forward-collision warning, automatic emergency braking, pedestrian detection, a following distance indicator, lane-departure warning, and lane-keep assist.
- Infotainment: The LT’s standard setup centers on a 10.2-inch touchscreen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. The system also includes a customizable digital instrument panel and standard smartphone integration.
- Range & charging: The Bolt EV has an EPA range of 259 miles and a 66-kilowatt-hour battery pack. Level 1 charging adds about 4 miles of range per hour, Level 2 charging adds about 25 miles per hour, and DC fast charging can add up to 100 miles in 30 minutes.
- Battery health: For a used Bolt EV, you should check battery state-of-health, confirm normal charging behavior, and review how often the car has relied on DC fast charging versus home charging. You should also confirm how much of the battery warranty remains.
Which 2021 Chevrolet Bolt EV trim should I buy?
The 2021 Chevrolet Bolt EV is offered in 2 trim levels: LT and Premier.
Here's the short version:
- LT: This is the best-value choice if you want the Bolt EV’s core strengths without paying extra for comfort upgrades. You still get the 10.2-inch touchscreen, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, remote start, alloy wheels, automatic climate control, and a WiFi hotspot, which makes it the smarter pick for budget-minded shoppers.
- Premier: Choose this if you want a more comfortable daily driver. It adds leather upholstery, heated front and rear seats, a heated steering wheel, a rear center armrest, and a removable cargo load floor. It also opens the door to the available infotainment and driver-assistance packages.
All advanced driver-assistance features are packaged rather than standard, so check the option list carefully on any used example.
Is now a good time to buy a used 2021 Chevrolet Bolt EV?
This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop patiently but still move quickly on the right car.
- Deal availability: 33.9% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Inventory: There are 177 listings available.
- Price trend: Prices are up 11.90% year-over-year.
- Clean inventory: 84.2% of listings are accident-free.
If you find a listing below $14,290, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
What is the 2021 Chevrolet Bolt EV's resale value?
The current average of $17,087 sits slightly above last year's $15,270.
That price movement suggests the Bolt EV has held demand reasonably well for a used EV. If you sell one, you may benefit from the model’s practical range and value reputation, especially if your car has a clean history and strong battery condition.
The current market also shows a fairly tight spread between the year-round low and high, which can help support resale value for well-kept examples. A clean, well-optioned Bolt EV should be easier to position than one with visible wear or missing equipment.
Is the 2021 Chevrolet Bolt EV safe?
The 2021 Chevrolet Bolt EV earns a five-star overall rating from NHTSA and a Top Safety Pick rating from IIHS.
It earns an 8/10 safety score from our experts.
Chevy’s Teen Driver feature is standard, and the available Driver Confidence packages add the main driver-assistance tech. Driver Confidence I brings rear parking sensors, lane-change alert, blind-spot monitoring, and rear cross-traffic alert. Driver Confidence II adds automatic high beams, forward-collision warning, automatic emergency braking, pedestrian detection, a following distance indicator, lane-departure warning, and lane-keep assist.
The main safety caveat is that many of the advanced features are not standard, so you need to verify which package a used example has.
Should I buy a 2021 Chevrolet Bolt EV or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2021 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2021 if:
- 33.9% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Accident-free inventory is solid at 84.2% — always verify the vehicle history report.
- Price trend: Prices are up 11.90% year-over-year.
- It offers strong range, practical value, and a spacious cabin in an affordable EV package.
Consider the 2022 if:
- At $19,123, the 2022 costs more than the current year's $17,087 average.
- It adds standard DC fast charging and a more mainstream, updated take on the Bolt EV.
The bottom line: If you want the better value, the 2021 is the smarter buy because it delivers the core Bolt EV strengths at a lower average price. If you are willing to pay more for a newer-feeling setup and standard DC fast charging, the 2022 is the better fit.
