About 2021 Chevrolet Bolt EV
overall
The Bolt EV is almost the template for the ideal affordable EV commuter car… almost.
Spend any time reading the news, and you’ll likely read about electric vehicles. They are influencing the stock prices of major automakers, and in turn, those automakers are investing heavily into a burgeoning market of EV startups. And yet, electric cars make up an incredibly small portion of the new car market. For all the news and hype, there are only a handful of actual models on the road today. They fall into two categories: larger, luxury-minded EVs like those offered by Tesla, and smaller, minimalist offerings such as the Nissan Leaf and the 2021 Chevrolet Bolt EV.
Like the Leaf, the Bolt does things differently from Tesla. It uses a smaller battery pack and maximizes the efficiency of its nimble platform. The Bolt EV does not have the range or acceleration of the Teslas, but for many Americans, an EV like the Bolt EV is something closer to what they can afford. But is the Bolt EV right for you? Read on to learn more about this economic electric vehicle.

Pros: -LOVE how it drives and handles the road -Feels spacious despite being compact -Easy features to use -No more gas and limited maintenance! -Awesome battery range Cons (especially related to the LT trim level): -Road noise is still very loud even though its nothing is coming from your engine. -6-speaker sound system absolutely sucks -Missing spot or sunglasses -No USB-c -No leather seats -No all-weather mats -No electric seat adjustments -Lots of plastic on the interior -No window tinting -No automatic windshield wipers -No 3D backup camera view -Get get the stupid XM radio to stop blasting me out every time I turn on my car (Apple Car play is much quieter) The 2022 (especially the 2LT trim level) looks like it is a very nice upgrade on the interior compared to the 2021.

Best value for the money anywhere really nice for driving. Really nice for maintenance and really nice. If you do have to work on it it’s very simple insurance cost are low. Initial cost to purchase is low really hard to beat. Rear seat Comfort is excellent. Front seat Comfort also excellent . handles very well. Accelerates beautiful , can pass most others in a heartbeat if you’re talking about gas cars.

2021 Chevrolet Bolt EV Price Trends
CarGurus tracks the prices of millions of used car listings every year. See how the average price of 2021 Chevrolet Bolt EV prices has changed over time.
See more price trendsHow much does the 2021 Chevrolet Bolt EV cost?
| Metric | Value |
|---|---|
| Current Average Price | $16,418 |
| Year-Round Low | $14,282.68 |
| Year-Round High | $16,477.05 |
| Average Price a Year Ago | $15,242 |
| Change vs. Last Year | +7.72% |
Prices are up 7.72% year-over-year — a sign of continued demand for this model year.
There are 153 listings available, which gives you a modest pool to compare before you buy. If you find a listing below $14,282.68, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
Is the 2021 Chevrolet Bolt EV a good car?
It’s a strong fit if you want an affordable EV commuter with real-world practicality, though you should weigh its compromises carefully. The user rating is 3.8/5, and the expert rating is 7.17/10.
The model scores 8/10 across Look and feel, Technology, and Safety.
Owners repeatedly praise its driving experience, spaciousness, impressive battery range, low maintenance costs, and value for money. On the downside, they commonly mention loud road noise, a subpar sound system, and cheap interior materials.
That lines up with the Bolt EV’s role as an accessible electric commuter rather than a luxury EV. If you want an efficient daily driver with a roomy cabin and strong range, it fits that brief well; if you care more about cabin polish and refinement, you may notice the trade-offs quickly.
Only 28.8% of listings are priced as good or great deals, so the market is not especially generous right now.
Is the 2021 Chevrolet Bolt EV reliable?
The Bolt EV is presented as a practical, low-maintenance electric commuter, and owners back that up by praising its low maintenance costs and trouble-free ownership experience. The expert review also emphasizes its efficient electric setup and battery-backed daily usability, which supports the case for dependable commuting.
Its battery pack is covered by an eight-year/100,000-mile warranty, which helps reduce long-term ownership risk for used buyers. Even so, you should still prioritize a clean history and a careful pre-purchase inspection, especially on an EV where battery health and charging behavior matter.
What should I look for when buying a used 2021 Chevrolet Bolt EV?
Accident-free inventory is solid at 85% — always verify the vehicle history report.
You should still run a history report on any car you’re considering, even if the listing looks clean. Prioritize a thorough inspection of the battery-related systems, charging equipment, tires, brakes, and cabin condition. Because this model is aimed at daily commuting, pay close attention to how well the controls, seats, and interior materials have held up.
Key things to evaluate:
- Trim level: The LT comes with alloy wheels, remote start, a 10.2-inch touchscreen, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, a WiFi hotspot, automatic climate control, dual USB ports, Bluetooth, and satellite radio. The Premier adds leather upholstery, a rear center armrest, heated front and rear seats, a heated steering wheel, and a removable cargo load floor.
- Powertrain: It uses a 66-kilowatt-hour battery pack and a front-mounted electric motor with 200 horsepower and 266 pound-feet of torque. The setup delivers quick low-end response and an EPA-estimated 259 miles of range.
- Safety package: Chevy’s Teen Driver feature is standard, while advanced driver assistance features are bundled into option packages. Driver Confidence I adds rear parking sensors, lane-change alert, blind-spot monitoring, and rear cross-traffic alert. Driver Confidence II adds automatic high beams, forward-collision warning, automatic emergency braking, pedestrian detection, a following distance indicator, lane-departure warning, and lane-keep assist.
- Infotainment: The standard system uses a 10.2-inch touchscreen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. The interface is described as clunky and laggy, and wireless device charging is part of an available package rather than standard equipment.
- Fuel efficiency: It is rated at 127 MPGe city, 108 highway, and 118 combined. It also offers an estimated 259 miles of range, with DC fast charging available on the Premier.
Which 2021 Chevrolet Bolt EV trim should I buy?
The 2021 Chevrolet Bolt EV is offered in 2 trim levels: LT and Premier.
Here's the short version:
- Base trim: The LT gives you the core Bolt EV experience, but you miss out on leather upholstery, heated seats, a heated steering wheel, and the removable cargo load floor found on the Premier. Safety-wise, advanced driver assistance features are not standard.
- Sweet-spot trim: The Premier is the better pick if you want the most complete version of this EV. It adds comfort upgrades, DC fast-charging capability, and access to the more advanced safety package.
- Premium/top trim: The Premier is the top choice here because it layers in the most useful everyday upgrades, especially if you want a more comfortable cabin and faster charging support.
The safety-package note is simple: the advanced driver assistance features are optional, not standard, so check the build carefully before you buy.
Is now a good time to buy a used 2021 Chevrolet Bolt EV?
Act selectively, because this is still a seller-leaning market even though there are some decent opportunities if you shop carefully.
- Deal availability: 28.8% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Inventory: There are 153 listings available.
- Price trend: Prices are up 7.72% year-over-year.
- Clean inventory: 85.0% of listings are accident-free.
If you find a listing below $14,282.68, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
What is the 2021 Chevrolet Bolt EV's resale value?
The current average of $16,418 sits slightly above last year's $15,242.
That upward move suggests the Bolt EV has held demand reasonably well for a used EV. If you buy one at the right price and keep it in good condition, you should have a decent shot at preserving value better than a softer-used-car market would suggest.
For a future seller, the key is to buy carefully now and avoid overpaying. A clean history, strong battery performance, and desirable equipment will matter when it’s time to resell.
Is the 2021 Chevrolet Bolt EV safe?
The Bolt EV earns a best five-star crash test rating from NHTSA and is an IIHS 2019 Top Safety Pick, a result that carries into 2021.
It earns a 8/10 safety score from our experts.
Chevy’s Teen Driver feature is standard, and it lets you set speed and volume limits for a second set of keys. The available Driver Confidence I package adds rear parking sensors, lane-change alert, blind-spot monitoring, and rear cross-traffic alert, while Driver Confidence II adds automatic high beams, forward-collision warning, automatic emergency braking, pedestrian detection, a following distance indicator, lane-departure warning, and lane-keep assist.
The main caveat is that most advanced driver assistance features are optional rather than standard, so you’ll want to confirm exactly which package a used example has before you buy.
Should I buy a 2021 Chevrolet Bolt EV or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2021 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2021 if:
- 28.8% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Accident-free inventory is solid at 85% — always verify the vehicle history report.
- Prices are up 7.72% year-over-year.
- It offers strong range, low running costs, and a roomy cabin for commuter use.
Consider the 2022 if:
- It adds standard DC fast charging and a more usable everyday EV setup.
The bottom line: The 2021 is the better path if you want a lower-cost Bolt EV with strong range and a practical commuter focus. If you’re price-sensitive and can find a clean 2021 at the low end of the market, that’s the move; if you want the more convenient charging setup, the next year is worth a look.
