What should I look for when buying a used 2021 Cadillac Escalade ESV?

At 72.6% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.

You should start with a vehicle history report and then prioritize a thorough pre-purchase inspection, especially if the listing has any accident history or incomplete service records. Focus on the condition of the technology, driver-assistance features, and interior trim, since those are central to the Escalade ESV’s appeal. It also makes sense to compare similar listings carefully, because the market includes both cleaner examples and vehicles that may need more scrutiny.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The Luxury, Premium Luxury, and Premium Luxury Platinum trims emphasize chrome styling, while Sport and Sport Platinum use blacked-out exterior accents. Even the base grade gets roof rails, power-extending assist steps, LED headlights with auto-leveling, LED taillamps, and illuminating door handles, but upgraded trims add more exterior polish and available features such as a power panoramic moonroof and heated, driver-side auto-dimming power-folding mirrors.
• Powertrain: You can choose between a 6.2-liter V8 and a 3.0-liter Duramax turbodiesel inline-six. The gasoline engine is standard and makes 420 horsepower and 460 pound-feet of torque, while the diesel makes 277 hp and 460 lb-ft. Both pair with a 10-speed automatic, and the V8 is described as strong but not especially eager for low-end torque when passing or towing.
• Safety package: Every Escalade ESV comes standard with front automatic braking, front and rear park assist, automatic emergency braking, front pedestrian detection, rear pedestrian detection, safety seat alert, lane-keep assist, and forward-collision assist. Available upgrades include adaptive park assist, a head-up display, rear camera mirror, lane-keep assist with lane-departure warning, side blind-spot alert, rear cross-traffic alert, lane-change alert, night vision, advanced adaptive cruise control, enhanced automatic emergency braking, reverse automatic braking, and automatic seatbelt tightening.
• Infotainment: The cabin centers on a curved 38-inch OLED display made up of three screens. Wireless charging, NFC phone pairing, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and seven USB ports are standard, and the standard 19-speaker AKG sound system can be upgraded to a 36-speaker AKG Studio Reference setup.
• Fuel efficiency: The expert testing notes that the EPA has not rated the Escalade ESV for fuel economy, but the tester averaged around 18 mpg in mixed driving. The broader performance discussion also says the traditional Escalade returns an EPA-estimated low of 17 mpg combined and a high of 23 mpg combined, with RWD versions being more efficient.

Which 2021 Cadillac Escalade ESV trim should I buy?

The 2021 Cadillac Escalade ESV is offered in 5 trim levels: Luxury, Premium Luxury, Premium Luxury Platinum, Sport, Sport Platinum.

Here's the short version:

• Luxury: This is the entry point, but it still gives you the Escalade ESV’s core luxury look and standard equipment, including the big exterior presence, LED lighting, power-extending assist steps, and the standard tech and safety foundation. It makes sense if you want the least expensive path into the model without giving up the essentials.
• Premium Luxury: This is the best-value trim for many shoppers because it adds more of the upscale chrome styling and sits in the part of the lineup where the Escalade ESV’s luxury character feels most complete without jumping all the way to the top-end pricing.
• Premium Luxury Platinum: Choose this if you want the most upscale chrome-heavy presentation and are willing to pay for a more fully dressed luxury SUV. It suits buyers who want the richest appearance and feature content.
• Sport: This trim swaps in blacked-out exterior accents and darker wheels, giving the Escalade ESV a more aggressive look. It is the right pick if you prefer a sportier visual theme over the chrome treatment.
• Sport Platinum: This is the most expressive Sport version, combining the blacked-out styling with the higher-end Platinum treatment. It fits buyers who want the boldest appearance and the most premium feel in the Sport family.

Some safety technologies are standard, but several advanced driver-assistance features remain optional rather than included across the lineup.

• Inventory: There are 734 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 13.44% compared with last year.

What is the 2021 Cadillac Escalade ESV's resale value?

The current average of $51,616 sits slightly below last year's $59,630.

That decline suggests the market has become more favorable for buyers, but it also means a future seller may need to price competitively to stand out. If you buy at the right number now, you may have less downside risk than someone who paid closer to last year’s average. The Escalade ESV’s strong feature content and luxury appeal should help support demand, especially among shoppers who want space and technology in a premium SUV.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 5/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

It earns a 7/10 safety score from our experts.

Every Escalade ESV comes standard with front automatic braking, front and rear park assist, automatic emergency braking, front pedestrian detection, rear pedestrian detection, safety seat alert, lane-keep assist, and forward-collision assist. The main caveat is that advanced safety features are not standard, and the rollover result is a reminder that the Escalade ESV’s tall, top-heavy design deserves careful attention.

If you are especially price-sensitive, you should still compare it against nearby model years and shop for the cleanest, best-priced example rather than focusing only on the badge.
