Used 2020 Volkswagen Tiguan for Sale nearCincinnati, OH

How much does the 2020 Volkswagen Tiguan cost?

Prices have softened 12.76% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.

There are 2,555 listings available, which gives you a solid pool of options to compare.

Is the 2020 Volkswagen Tiguan a good car?

Yes — the 2020 Volkswagen Tiguan earns a 4.9/5 user rating and a 7.7/10 expert rating. The model scores 9/10 across Form and function and Technology.

Owners consistently praise its value, space, and quality, and they also like the roomy interior and smooth handling. The Tiguan’s three-row packaging and practical cabin make it a strong fit if you want extra seating and everyday usability. The main trade-off is that it is better suited to practicality than driving sharpness, and the expert review also calls out poor handling and a plain, cost-cutting interior.

At 37.0% good or great deals, the market still offers a meaningful number of attractive listings.

Is the 2020 Volkswagen Tiguan reliable?

Owners rate it 4.9/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

The owner feedback points to a vehicle that feels dependable and trouble-free in day-to-day use, with buyers repeatedly highlighting its value and quality. The expert review also emphasizes that it is built for everyday usability and practical ownership, with a straightforward setup that should be easy to live with. Volkswagen also includes five years of complimentary Car-Net features, which adds convenience for ownership.

For used buyers, the main long-term risk is making sure the vehicle has been maintained well, since a larger, more feature-rich crossover can become more expensive to keep in top shape if prior care was inconsistent.

What should I look for when buying a used 2020 Volkswagen Tiguan?

At 70.6% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.

You should start with a vehicle history report and then prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially if you are considering a higher-mileage example or one with visible wear. Focus on body condition, interior condition, and whether the features you want are actually present on the trim you are shopping. Because the Tiguan’s value changes a lot by equipment level, it is worth confirming that the listing matches the trim and options advertised.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The base S trim uses a 6.5-inch touchscreen and is missing some of the nicer equipment found higher up the range, while the SE adds leatherette upholstery, heated front seats, automatic climate control, and the more desirable 8-inch infotainment touchscreen. The SE is the value leader, while the SEL adds more luxury and safety equipment.
• Powertrain: All models use a turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder with an eight-speed automatic, making 184 horsepower and 221 pound-feet of torque. Front-wheel drive is standard, and all-wheel drive is available.
• Safety package: Standard equipment includes forward-collision warning with automatic emergency braking, blind spot monitoring, and rear cross-traffic alert. Adaptive cruise control with lane-keeping assistance and LED headlights with automatic high beams are reserved for the top SEL trim.
• Infotainment: The base S trim has a 6.5-inch touchscreen, while SE and higher trims get an 8-inch capacitive touchscreen. Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are standard, and the system also includes Bluetooth connectivity and a WiFi hotspot.
• Fuel efficiency: A front-drive Tiguan earns 25 miles per gallon combined, while the AWD version is rated at 23 mpg combined. Highway numbers do not crack 30 mpg for either version.

Which 2020 Volkswagen Tiguan trim should I buy?

The 2020 Volkswagen Tiguan is offered in 5 trim levels: S, SE, SE R-Line Black, SEL, SEL Premium R-Line.

Here's the short version:

• S: This is the entry point, but it is the least compelling choice if you want the Tiguan’s best mix of comfort and tech. It gets the basics, including the standard safety package and the 6.5-inch touchscreen, but it leaves out some of the features that make the Tiguan feel more complete.
• SE: This is the best-value trim. It adds leatherette upholstery, heated front seats, automatic climate control, and the 8-inch infotainment touchscreen, making it the sweet spot for most shoppers.
• SE R-Line Black: This trim mainly adds cosmetic upgrades such as alloy wheels and R-Line badging, so it makes sense if you care more about appearance than value.
• SEL: This is the trim to choose if you want more luxury and safety equipment, including adaptive cruise control with lane-keeping assist.
• SEL Premium R-Line: This is the top-end choice with all-wheel drive and the most equipment, but it sits at the expensive end of the range.

The safety package is strongest on the SEL trim, while lower trims give you the core driver-assistance features without the extra upgrades.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2020 Volkswagen Tiguan?

This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you have room to shop carefully and compare listings.

• Deal availability: 37.0% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 2,555 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 12.76% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 70.6% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $15,327, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2020 Volkswagen Tiguan's resale value?

The current average of $15,327 sits slightly below last year's $17,570.

That decline suggests the market has already adjusted downward, which can help you as a buyer today but may limit upside if you plan to resell soon. If you buy at the right price, you reduce the risk of taking a bigger depreciation hit later. The Tiguan’s broad appeal and practical packaging should still support demand, especially for shoppers who want third-row seating in a compact crossover.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.9/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2020 Volkswagen Tiguan safe?

The 2020 Volkswagen Tiguan earns a Top Safety Pick rating from IIHS, but only on top-of-the-line SEL Premium models with LED headlights.

It earns a 6/10 safety score from our experts.

Volkswagen made forward-collision warning with automatic emergency braking, blind spot monitoring, and rear cross-traffic alert standard across the lineup. Adaptive cruise control with lane-keeping assistance and LED headlights with automatic high beams are reserved for the top SEL trim, so lower trims miss some of the more advanced safety equipment. The IIHS note about halogen headlights being rated poor is an important caveat if you are shopping a lower trim.

Should I buy a 2020 Volkswagen Tiguan or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2020 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2020 if:

• 37.0% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• At 70.6% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 12.76% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.9/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• The 2020 stands out for its third-row seating and roomy packaging.

Consider the 2021 if:

• At $16,831, the 2021 costs more than the current year's $15,327 average.
• It brings a refreshed infotainment update and broader everyday usability.

The bottom line: If you want the better value today, the 2020 is the stronger buy because prices are softer and the market still has plenty of listings to choose from. If you are willing to spend more for a newer model year, the 2021 is the cleaner alternative for shoppers who want the next step up in freshness.
