Used 2023 Volkswagen Tiguan for Sale nearCincinnati, OH

How much does the 2023 Volkswagen Tiguan cost?

Prices have softened 8.06% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.

There are 6,257 listings available, which suggests you have a healthy amount of inventory to compare.

Is the 2023 Volkswagen Tiguan a good car?

Yes — the 2023 Volkswagen Tiguan earns a 5/5 user rating and a 7.7/10 expert rating. The standout strength is Safety at 9/10.

The Tiguan fits you well if you want a compact crossover that feels larger inside than many rivals and offers a third-row seat. It also brings a more upscale appearance than many competitors and is enjoyable to drive, with handling called out as a strength.

The trade-offs are clear: performance is fairly pedestrian, the ergonomic design is poor, and the technology can be unintuitive. If you value easy-to-use controls and stronger acceleration, those drawbacks may matter more to you than the Tiguan’s space and polish.

The market looks reasonably favorable, with 39.2% of listings marked as good or great deals.

Is the 2023 Volkswagen Tiguan reliable?

Owners rate it 5/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

The Tiguan’s reliability case is helped by its solid construction, broad utility, and the fact that Volkswagen backs it with scheduled maintenance coverage and a warranty. Its safety and driver-assistance systems also work well in practice, which can reduce day-to-day stress if you keep the vehicle maintained.

You should still expect some ownership friction from the Tiguan’s touch-heavy controls and occasionally awkward infotainment behavior, since those quirks can become more annoying over time. For a used buyer, that means the biggest long-term risk is less about basic durability and more about living with the vehicle’s interface and usability compromises.

What should I look for when buying a used 2023 Volkswagen Tiguan?

Accident-free inventory is solid at 87.7% — always verify the vehicle history report.

You should still check the vehicle history report carefully and prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially if you’re considering a higher-mileage example or one with a lot of tech features. Focus on overall condition, how the controls operate, and whether the cabin electronics behave consistently during a test drive.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The S, SE, SE R-Line Black, and SEL R-Line each bring different visual and equipment levels, and the base trim has a smaller 6.5-inch touchscreen than the others. The SEL R-Line stands out for its larger 10.25-inch digital display, adaptive front lighting, and more upscale cabin presentation.
• Powertrain: Every Tiguan uses a turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine with an eight-speed automatic transmission. Front-wheel drive is standard, and 4Motion all-wheel drive is available; the powertrain is described as adequate but not especially strong, with some turbo lag and delayed downshifts.
• Safety package: Front Assist and Side Assist are standard, bringing forward collision warning with pedestrian detection, automatic emergency braking, blind-spot monitoring, and rear cross-traffic alert. IQ.Drive is optional on base models and standard on other models, adding adaptive cruise control with stop-and-go, active blind-spot monitoring, Lane Assist, Travel Assist, and Emergency Assist.
• Infotainment: Most trims use an 8-inch touchscreen, while the base S trim gets a 6.5-inch screen and the SEL R-Line gets a 10.25-inch digital display. Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are included on the top trim, along with wireless smartphone charging and Car-Net connected services.
• Fuel efficiency: The SEL R-Line should average 24 mpg in combined driving.

Which 2023 Volkswagen Tiguan trim should I buy?

The 2023 Volkswagen Tiguan is offered in 4 trim levels: S, SE, SE R-Line Black, and SEL R-Line.

Here's the short version:

• S: This is the entry point, and it gives you the Tiguan’s core space, style, and standard safety equipment at the lowest price. It makes sense if you want the Tiguan’s basic strengths and plan to keep costs down, but you give up some of the nicer tech and visual upgrades found higher up.
• SE: This is the best-value choice for most shoppers because it adds a more complete feature set without jumping all the way to the top trim. It should be the trim you focus on first if you want a balanced mix of equipment, comfort, and price.
• SE R-Line Black: This trim leans into sportier styling and a more distinctive appearance. Choose it if you care more about the Tiguan’s look and road presence than about getting the absolute lowest price.
• SEL R-Line: This is the most upscale version, with the largest digital display, standard AWD, adaptive front lighting, and the most premium cabin presentation. It suits you best if you want the most features and the most polished feel.

IQ.Drive is optional on base models and standard on other models.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2023 Volkswagen Tiguan?

This is a moderate market for selective buyers, with enough inventory and enough deal activity to make comparison shopping worthwhile.

• Deal availability: 39.2% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 6,257 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 8.06% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 87.7% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $21,874, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2023 Volkswagen Tiguan's resale value?

The current average of $21,874 sits slightly below last year's $23,791.

That softer pricing can help you buy in at a more favorable point, but it also means future resale gains may be more limited if the market stays soft. If you plan to sell later, the Tiguan’s value will depend heavily on condition, mileage, and how well it holds up against newer alternatives.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 5/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2023 Volkswagen Tiguan safe?

The 2023 Tiguan earns a Top Safety Pick+ rating from IIHS, though that rating does not apply for the 2023 calendar year.

It earns a 9/10 safety score from our experts.

All Tiguans have standard Front Assist and Side Assist. Front Assist includes forward collision warning with pedestrian detection and automatic emergency braking, while Side Assist adds blind-spot monitoring and rear cross-traffic alert. Volkswagen also includes an Automatic Post Collision Braking System, and IQ.Drive adds adaptive cruise control with stop-and-go, active blind-spot monitoring, Lane Assist, Travel Assist, and Emergency Assist.

One caveat is that NHTSA testing is incomplete, and the agency also noted that the driver’s door unlatched and opened during the side-impact test. That means you should pay close attention to the vehicle’s safety history and any updates tied to crash testing.

Should I buy a 2023 Volkswagen Tiguan or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2023 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2023 if:

• 39.2% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Accident-free inventory is solid at 87.7% — always verify the vehicle history report.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 8.06% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 5/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• It adds a complimentary five-year Car-Net Safe & Secure plan.

Consider the 2022 if:

• At $19,799, the 2022 costs less than the current year's $21,874 average.
• It offers a light refresh with new safety technology and strong value.

Consider the 2024 if:

• At $24,105, the 2024 costs more than the current year's $21,874 average.
• It makes more desirable safety technology standard for the first time.

The bottom line: If you want the best balance of price, inventory, and satisfaction, the 2023 is the primary path to consider. If you’re especially price-sensitive, the 2022 is the smarter value play, while the 2024 makes sense if you want the newer standard safety equipment and can spend more.
