How much does the 2020 Toyota RAV4 cost?

Prices have softened 2.38% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.

There are 4,199 listings available, which suggests solid inventory for comparison shopping.

Is the 2020 Toyota RAV4 a good car?

Yes — the 2020 Toyota RAV4 earns a 4.57/5 user rating and an 8.67/10 expert rating. The standout strength is Technology at 10/10.

Owners consistently praise its performance, reliability, and comfort, and they also highlight its safety features and fuel efficiency. The RAV4’s practical, family-friendly appeal comes through clearly in the feedback, especially for shoppers who want a useful daily driver with broad appeal.

The trade-offs are straightforward: some owners want more features such as remote start and leather seats, and pricing can feel high for some used examples. In context, this is a compact crossover that aims to cover commuting, family duty, and road trips without giving up everyday usability.

Good and great deals account for 36.8% of listings, so you still have room to shop selectively.

Is the 2020 Toyota RAV4 reliable?

Owners rate it 4.57/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

Owner feedback points to reliability, dependability, and trouble-free ownership as part of the RAV4’s appeal, alongside comfort and efficiency. The expert evaluation also emphasizes that the RAV4 is comfortable, practical, roomy, safe, and good to drive, which supports the case for steady day-to-day dependability.

You also get 2 years or 25,000 miles of free scheduled maintenance, which helps reduce early ownership costs. For used buyers, the main long-term risk is making sure the specific vehicle has been maintained well and hasn’t accumulated hidden wear from harder use.

What should I look for when buying a used 2020 Toyota RAV4?

At 71.4% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.

You should start with a vehicle history report and then prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially if the listing price looks unusually attractive. Focus on condition details that matter most in a used crossover: signs of prior bodywork, tire wear, brake condition, and whether the technology and safety systems operate as expected.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The lineup spans LE, XLE, XLE Premium, Adventure, TRD Off-Road, and Limited. The base LE starts the range, while higher trims add more comfort, capability, and equipment; the TRD Off-Road stands out with all-terrain tires, a special suspension, and dirt-ready cabin touches.
• Powertrain: The gas model uses a 2.5-liter 4-cylinder engine with 203 horsepower and 184 pound-feet of torque, paired with an 8-speed automatic transmission. The hybrid is a separate model and is not part of the gas TRD Off-Road setup.
• Safety package: Toyota Safety Sense 2.0 is standard and includes Pre-Collision System with Pedestrian Detection, radar adaptive cruise control, lane departure alert with steering assist, front and rear parking assist with automated braking, and blind spot assist with rear cross-traffic alert. Headlights matter here, since the best IIHS result applies only with the full LED, curve adaptive headlights.
• Infotainment: Depending on trim, you get a 7- or 8-inch touchscreen. Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, Bluetooth, Amazon Alexa, SiriusXM, and connected services are included, and the system can be paired with wireless smartphone charging and a 360-degree surround-view camera on equipped models.
• Fuel efficiency: The test vehicle averaged 23.4 mpg, while the official EPA estimate cited was 27 mpg in combined driving.

Which 2020 Toyota RAV4 trim should I buy?

The 2020 Toyota RAV4 is offered in 6 trim levels: LE, XLE, XLE Premium, Adventure, TRD Off-Road, and Limited.

Here's the short version:

• LE: This is the entry point, so it makes sense if you want the lowest-cost path into the RAV4 lineup and are comfortable with the essentials.
• XLE: This is the best-value trim. The expert notes specifically point to the XLE with the top option package as the sweet spot for equipment and value.
• XLE Premium: Choose this if you want a more upscale feel than the XLE without jumping all the way to the top of the range.
• Adventure: This is the better pick if you want a more rugged personality and added off-road credibility than the mainstream trims.
• TRD Off-Road: Pick this if you want the most capability-focused gas RAV4, with all-terrain tires, TRD suspension tuning, and terrain-specific hardware.
• Limited: This is the trim to consider if you want the most comfort and convenience equipment in the gas lineup.

Toyota Safety Sense 2.0 is standard across the lineup, but the IIHS top rating depends on the full LED, curve adaptive headlights.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2020 Toyota RAV4?

This is a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop carefully without expecting deep distress pricing.

• Deal availability: 36.8% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 4,199 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 2.38% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 71.4% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $22,598, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2020 Toyota RAV4's resale value?

The current average of $23,356 sits slightly below last year's $23,925.

That softer pricing suggests the market has become a bit more favorable for buyers, which can also mean future sellers may need to price competitively to stand out. Even so, the RAV4’s broad appeal helps support demand, especially for well-kept examples with clean history and desirable equipment.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.57/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2020 Toyota RAV4 safe?

The 2020 Toyota RAV4 earns a Top Safety Pick rating from IIHS, but only with the full LED, curve adaptive headlights.

It earns a 9/10 safety score from our experts.

Toyota Safety Sense 2.0 is standard and includes Pre-Collision System with Pedestrian Detection, radar adaptive cruise control, lane departure alert with steering assist, front and rear parking assist with automated braking, and blind spot assist with rear cross-traffic alert. Toyota also includes Safety Connect with automatic collision notification, an SOS emergency assistance button, and enhanced roadside assistance.

The main caveat is the headlight-dependent IIHS result: without the full LED, curve adaptive headlights, headlight performance is rated Marginal at best.

Should I buy a 2020 Toyota RAV4 or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2020 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2020 if:

• 36.8% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• At 71.4% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 2.38% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.57/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• The 2020 stands out for its broad trim range, standard safety tech, and strong technology score.

Consider the 2019 if:

• At $22,328, the 2019 costs less than the current year's $23,356 average.
• It introduced bolder styling and added more off-road credibility.

Consider the 2021 if:

• At $24,632, the 2021 costs more than the current year's $23,356 average.
• It adds the RAV4 Prime plug-in hybrid and expands trim choices.

The bottom line: If you want the strongest balance of value, safety, and everyday usefulness, the 2020 is the primary year to target. If your budget is tighter, the 2019 can save you money, while the 2021 makes sense if you want the newer lineup changes and are willing to pay more.
