How much does the 2020 Toyota Prius cost?

Prices are up 1.84% year-over-year — a sign of continued demand for this model year.

There are 312 listings available, which gives you a modest pool to compare before you buy.

Is the 2020 Toyota Prius a good car?

Yes — the 2020 Toyota Prius earns a 4.8/5 user rating and a 7.5/10 expert rating.

The model scores 9/10 across Cost effectiveness and Safety.

Owners consistently praise its impressive gas mileage, practicality, value for money, cargo space, and handling. The Prius also fits buyers who want a fuel-efficient hybrid with everyday usefulness rather than flash.

The main trade-off is that its design may be polarizing, and some shoppers may miss luxury touches such as GPS and leather seats.

With its focus on fuel efficiency, versatility, and available all-wheel drive, it suits you well if you want a practical hybrid that still feels easy to live with. The market also shows 28.5% good or great deals, which suggests there are still worthwhile opportunities if you shop carefully.

Is the 2020 Toyota Prius reliable?

Owners rate it 4.8/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

Owners describe it as reliable, efficient, practical, and safe, and they also highlight its trouble-free feel for daily use. The expert review reinforces that dependability by emphasizing the Prius’s solid driving dynamics, comfortable cabin, and the way it delivers efficiency without forcing major compromises.

Toyota also backs the hybrid system with long warranty coverage, including the battery and hybrid components, which helps reduce long-term ownership anxiety.

For used buyers, the main risk is less about the drivetrain and more about finding a well-kept example with the right equipment and condition.

What should I look for when buying a used 2020 Toyota Prius?

At 68.3% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.

You should start with a vehicle history report and then prioritize a close inspection of body panels, tires, brakes, and interior wear. Because the Prius is often bought for efficiency and commuting, condition matters as much as mileage. Pay extra attention to any signs of neglected maintenance or repairs that could offset the car’s value advantage.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The L Eco comes with 15-inch alloy wheels with wheel covers, automatic climate control, cloth upholstery, push-button start, three USB ports, Bluetooth, and a 7-inch touchscreen with Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and Amazon Alexa compatibility. The LE adds a rear windshield wiper, front-and-rear parking sensors, seat-back pockets, and a tonneau cover. The XLE adds 17-inch alloy wheels, rain-sensing wipers, synthetic leather upholstery, an eight-way power-adjustable driver’s seat, heated front seats, a heated steering wheel, and wireless device charging. The Limited adds adaptive, self-leveling headlights, a head-up display, satellite radio, HD Radio, and an 11.6-inch touchscreen, but that larger screen loses Android Auto support.
• Powertrain: Every trim uses a 1.8-liter four-cylinder engine paired with an electric motor and battery for 121 horsepower and 105 pound-feet of torque. Front-wheel drive is standard, and an all-wheel-drive variant is available with a second electric motor for the rear wheels. The Prius also offers EV, Eco, and Power drive modes, with Eco described as the best balance of performance, efficiency, and quiet operation.
• Safety package: Toyota Safety Sense 2.0 is standard and includes automatic emergency braking, forward-collision warning, lane-departure warning, adaptive cruise control, and automatic high beams. Optional features include blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, front-and-rear parking sensors, active park assist, and lane-tracing assist. Some of those features are not standard on lower trims.
• Infotainment: The standard setup is a 7-inch touchscreen with Android Auto, Apple CarPlay, Bluetooth, WiFi hotspot, and three USB ports. The Limited upgrades to an 11.6-inch screen with a portrait layout and split-screen capability, but it lacks Android Auto. Satellite radio, HD Radio, HUD, and a 10-speaker JBL premium audio system are also available.
• Fuel efficiency: The Eco trim returns 58 mpg city, 53 highway, 56 combined. The standard Prius returns 54 mpg city, 50 highway, 52 combined. The all-wheel-drive version is rated at 52 mpg city, 48 highway, 50 combined.

Which 2020 Toyota Prius trim should I buy?

The 2020 Toyota Prius is offered in 4 trim levels: L Eco, LE, XLE, and Limited.

Here's the short version:

• L Eco: This is the value play if you want the lowest entry point and the best fuel economy, plus standard smartphone integration and core comfort features. It gives you the essentials without pushing the price up.
• LE: This is the best-value trim for many shoppers because it adds useful everyday upgrades like parking sensors, a rear wiper, and cargo-area convenience features without jumping too far in price.
• XLE: Choose this if you want a more upscale daily driver, since it adds heated front seats, a heated steering wheel, synthetic leather upholstery, and wireless charging.
• Limited: This is the right pick if you want the most equipment, including the larger touchscreen, HUD, and premium audio, but you should know the bigger screen drops Android Auto support.

Toyota Safety Sense 2.0 is standard across the lineup, and the available lane-tracing assist is a helpful add-on if you find a trim that includes it.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2020 Toyota Prius?

This looks like a moderate market for selective buyers, so you can shop with some leverage if you compare listings carefully.

• Deal availability: 28.5% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 312 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices are up 1.84% year-over-year.
• Clean inventory: 68.3% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $19,072, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2020 Toyota Prius's resale value?

The current average of $21,162 sits slightly above last year's $20,780.

That upward move suggests the Prius is holding value reasonably well for a used hybrid. If demand stays steady, sellers should continue to benefit from the model’s reputation for efficiency and practicality. The relatively tight year-round price band also points to a market that rewards clean, well-equipped examples.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.8/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2020 Toyota Prius safe?

The 2020 Toyota Prius earns a five-star rating from NHTSA and a Top Safety Pick accolade from IIHS.

It earns a 9/10 safety score from our experts.

Toyota Safety Sense 2.0 is standard and includes automatic emergency braking, forward-collision warning, lane-departure warning, adaptive cruise control, and automatic high beams. Optional safety features include blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, front-and-rear parking sensors, active park assist, and lane-tracing assist.

One caveat is that the model fell short of IIHS’s highest rating because of average results in the passenger-side small overlap front crash test and headlight testing.

Should I buy a 2020 Toyota Prius or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2020 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2020 if:

• 28.5% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• At 68.3% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
• Price trend: Prices are up 1.84% year-over-year.
• Owners rate it 4.8/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• It balances strong fuel economy, standard safety tech, and available all-wheel drive.

Consider the 2019 if:

• At $19,758, the 2019 costs less than the current year's $21,162 average.
• It adds a revised trim strategy and available electric all-wheel drive.

Consider the 2021 if:

• At $21,271, the 2021 costs more than the current year's $21,162 average.
• It adds standard Android Auto across most of the lineup and broader driver-assistance coverage.

The bottom line: If you want the best mix of price, efficiency, and standard safety, the 2020 is a sensible target. If you’re more price-sensitive, the 2019 can save you money, while the 2021 is worth a look if you want the newer tech updates and don’t mind paying a bit more.
