How much does the 2020 Subaru WRX STI cost?

Is the 2020 Subaru WRX STI a good car?

Yes — the 2020 Subaru WRX STI earns a 5/5 user rating and a 7.7/10 expert rating. The standout strength is Performance at 9/10.

The STI fits you well if you want a rally-inspired performance sedan with standard all-wheel drive, a manual transmission, and a fun-to-drive character. The trade-offs are clear: the technology is dated, and the infotainment setup is small and text-heavy. It also leans more toward driver engagement than modern convenience, which matches its old-school performance focus.

31.0% of listings are priced as good or great deals, so you have some room to shop selectively.

Is the 2020 Subaru WRX STI reliable?

Owners rate it 5/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

The STI’s appeal comes from its durable, purpose-built personality: it uses a turbocharged boxer engine, standard all-wheel drive, and a manual transmission, all wrapped in a car that’s meant to be driven hard. The expert review also describes it as a compelling performance car that still feels rooted in its heritage. Its performance hardware and straightforward layout suggest a car built for consistency rather than novelty.

The STI’s long-term ownership risk for used buyers is mostly about how hard previous owners may have driven it and how well it was maintained.

What should I look for when buying a used 2020 Subaru WRX STI?

At 68.1% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.

You should start with a vehicle history report and then prioritize a thorough pre-purchase inspection, especially on cars that may have been modified or driven aggressively. Focus on signs of wear in the drivetrain, suspension, brakes, and interior, since this model’s appeal often attracts enthusiastic use. A clean, well-documented example is especially important here.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The STI’s styling is unique to the model, with a functional hood scoop, wide fenders, quad exhaust tips, and a big rear wing. The Series.White limited edition adds Ceramic White paint, matte bronze BBS 19-inch wheels, silver brake calipers, and model-specific badging, while the interior can include Recaro front seats and Ultrasuede upholstery. Base cars are more Spartan, so you should pay attention to whether the features you want are present.
• Powertrain: The STI uses a 2.5-liter turbocharged boxer-four with 310 horsepower and 290 pound-feet of torque, and it is available only with a six-speed manual. Its all-wheel-drive system includes torque vectoring, Subaru’s Multi-Mode Driver Controlled Center Differential, and SI-Drive with Sport, Sport Sharp, and Intelligent modes.
• Safety package: The STI gets a five-star overall safety rating from NHTSA, with five stars in all crash tests except the driver’s side frontal test. It does not get EyeSight driver-assistance tech, and that means features like forward collision warning, automatic emergency braking, adaptive cruise control, and lane-keep assist are not available with the manual-transmission STI.
• Infotainment: The STI comes with a 7.0-inch touchscreen, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, Bluetooth, SiriusXM satellite radio compatibility, and two front USB ports. The screen is small and the menus are text-heavy, so usability matters when you test it.
• Fuel efficiency: EPA fuel-economy ratings are 16 mpg city, 22 mpg highway, and 19 mpg combined. The review also notes that the STI’s AWD comes with a fuel-economy trade-off compared with some rivals.

Which 2020 Subaru WRX STI trim should I buy?

The 2020 Subaru WRX STI is offered in 2 trim levels: STI and WRX STI Limited.

Here's the short version:

• STI: This is the one to start with if you want the core STI experience: 310-hp turbo power, six-speed manual control, standard all-wheel drive, and the rally-inspired personality that defines the car. It gives you the essential performance hardware without pushing you into the pricier trim.
• WRX STI Limited: This is the better choice if you want more creature comforts and are willing to pay for them. It starts higher and is the trim to consider if you want a more upscale daily experience alongside the STI’s performance character.

The STI does not get EyeSight driver-assistance tech, and that safety-package gap applies across the manual-transmission lineup.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2020 Subaru WRX STI?

This is a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop carefully and still find worthwhile listings.

• Deal availability: 31.0% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 348 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 2.45% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 68.1% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $29,499, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2020 Subaru WRX STI's resale value?

The current average of $29,524 sits slightly below last year's $30,265.

That softer pricing suggests the market has become a bit more favorable for buyers, which can make future resale more competitive if you buy at the right number. If you pay close to the low end of the range, you give yourself a better chance of limiting depreciation. Well-kept examples should continue to draw interest because the STI still has a strong enthusiast following.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 5/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2020 Subaru WRX STI safe?

The 2020 Subaru WRX STI earns a five-star overall safety rating from NHTSA, with five-star ratings in all crash tests except the driver’s side frontal test.

It earns a 7/10 safety score from our experts.

The STI does not get Subaru’s EyeSight driver-assistance suite, which means forward collision warning, automatic emergency braking, adaptive cruise control, and lane-keep assist are not available on this manual-transmission model. That’s the main safety caveat to keep in mind when you compare it with more modern rivals.

Should I buy a 2020 Subaru WRX STI or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2020 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2020 if:

• 31.0% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• At 68.1% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 2.45% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 5/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• The 2020 keeps the STI’s rally-inspired formula intact while still offering standard all-wheel drive and a manual transmission.

Consider the 2021 if:

• At $32,904, the 2021 costs more than the current year's $29,524 average.
• It adds a more refined take on the same performance-sedan formula.

The bottom line: If you want the better value, the 2020 is the smarter starting point because it delivers the STI experience at a lower average price. If you’re willing to spend more for a newer example, the 2021 is the secondary path to consider.
