Is the 2016 Subaru WRX STI a good car?

Yes — the 2016 Subaru WRX STI earns a 5/5 user rating, and its overview frames it as a focused performance sedan with rally roots and standard all-wheel drive. It is presented as a serious road-going performance machine that still works as a practical daily driver, with appeal tied to its blend of serious performance and day-to-day practicality. That makes it a strong fit if you want a fast, capable sedan with real character and all-weather usefulness. 32.2% of listings are priced as good or great deals, which gives you some room to shop selectively.

Is the 2016 Subaru WRX STI reliable?

Owners rate it 5/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

The overview points to a car that can be rewarding if you want performance, standard all-wheel drive, and practical fun, but it also makes clear that many examples have been heavily used, abused, or modified. For used buyers, that means reliability risk is less about the model’s concept and more about how well a specific car was maintained and driven.

What should I look for when buying a used 2016 Subaru WRX STI?

At 56.3% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.

You should start with a full vehicle history report and then prioritize a pre-purchase inspection from a mechanic who knows performance cars. Focus on signs of hard use, modification, and deferred maintenance, since condition matters a great deal on this model. Pay close attention to the ride quality, interior wear, and any evidence that the car has been driven aggressively or altered from stock.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2016 Subaru WRX STI?

This is a moderate market, so you can be selective without expecting a deep buyer’s market.

• Deal availability: 32.2% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 208 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 1.19% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 56.3% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $20,367, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2016 Subaru WRX STI's resale value?

The current average of $20,367 sits slightly below last year's $20,612.

That softer pricing can help you buy more carefully now, but it also suggests future sellers may need to price competitively if the market stays steady. Because the model has enthusiast appeal and a reputation for serious performance with practical usefulness, well-kept examples should continue to draw attention. Condition will matter a lot, though, so a clean, unmodified car is likely to hold value better than one with questionable history or heavy wear. Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 5/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Should I buy a 2016 Subaru WRX STI or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2016 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2016 if:

• 32.2% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• At 56.3% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 1.19% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 5/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.

The bottom line: If you want the strongest mix of performance, practicality, and current market value, the 2016 is a sensible primary target. If you are especially price-sensitive, you can also compare nearby years to see whether a cleaner or better-priced example appears, but you should still put condition and maintenance history ahead of small year-to-year differences.
