The Lexus LC, a high-end personal luxury coupe, adds a brand-new special edition for 2020. It competes with the BMW 8 Series Coupe and Mercedes-Benz S-Class Coupe.

The LC offers daring curves and chrome treatments that come together to form something truly unique. Beneath its dramatic exterior lies a 2+2 seating arrangement.

For now, the only trim in the LC’s lineup is the LC 500, which packs a naturally aspirated 5.0-liter V8 that makes 471 horsepower and 398 pound-feet of torque. A 10-speed automatic transmission with paddle shifters sends all of that power to the rear wheels. All in, it’s enough to rocket the LC to 60 mph in just 4.4 seconds. Trims with the Performance Package benefit from active rear-wheel steering and a speed-dependent rear wing. A limited-slip differential is also available. You can expect 16 mpg city, 25 highway, and 19 combined at the pump with premium gas.

Like most cars in its class, the LC packs an impressive list of standard features: LED exterior lighting, 20-inch wheels, keyless access and start, hand-crafted leather upholstery, a 12-speaker premium audio system, a 10.3-inch infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Amazon Alexa integration, heated and cooled seats, a glass roof, ambient lighting, and dual-zone automatic climate control. Cargo capacity is limited to just 5.4 cubic feet.

From there, Lexus offers several packages for the LC. The All-Weather Package includes a heated leather-trimmed steering wheel and a windshield wiper de-icer. The aforementioned Performance Package adds a carbon-fiber roof, carbon-fiber scuff plates, and 8-way power sport seats. The Touring Package includes perforated leather front seats, a Mark Levinson sound system, and an Alcantara headliner.

The 2019 LC Inspiration Series gives way to a new 2020 LC Inspiration Series. Limited to just 100 units, this special edition includes an exclusive Nori Green exterior, a two-tone Saddle Tan and Black Amber interior, aniline leather upholstery with Alcantara door inserts, 21-inch alloy wheels, and custom door sill plates.

Most of the LC’s safety equipment comes standard, including a reversing camera, blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert, a head-up display (HUD), automatic emergency braking with pedestrian detection, forward-collision warning, lane-departure warning, lane-keep assist, adaptive cruise control, and automatic high beams. The LC has not been evaluated for crash safety by either the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) or the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS), but that’s not unusual for high-end cars like this.
