How much does the 2020 Kia Soul cost?

Prices have softened 6.53% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.

There are 1,583 listings available, which gives you a solid amount of inventory to compare.

Is the 2020 Kia Soul a good car?

Yes — the 2020 Kia Soul earns a 4.7/5 user rating and an 8.5/10 expert rating. The standout strength is Form and function at 10/10.

Owners consistently praise the Soul for its spacious interior, stylish design, and modern features. The review summary also points to strong value for the price, plus gas mileage and safety features as recurring positives.

On the downside, the expert notes call out fairly pedestrian performance and the lack of standard advanced safety features. In practical terms, that means you’re getting a useful, distinctive small vehicle that fits well if you want affordability, everyday versatility, and a little personality in your commute.

32.5% of listings are priced as good or great deals, which suggests there are still worthwhile opportunities in the market.

Is the 2020 Kia Soul reliable?

Owners rate it 4.7/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

The owner summary also points to a dependable-feeling ownership experience, with praise for the Soul’s trouble-free character, practical usefulness, and value. The expert driving notes reinforce that impression by describing the 2.0-liter engine as refined and relatively quiet under acceleration, with power delivery that feels well managed.

That said, used buyers should still focus on maintenance records and overall condition, since long-term ownership risk is always higher when a vehicle has already seen years of use.

What should I look for when buying a used 2020 Kia Soul?

At 66.1% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.

You should start with a vehicle history report and then prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially if you’re comparing multiple listings at similar prices. Pay close attention to body condition, signs of prior repair, and whether the equipment level matches the trim being advertised. If you’re shopping a used Soul, the best examples are the ones that combine clean history with clear maintenance documentation and consistent wear patterns.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The LX is pretty basic, with 16-inch steel wheels, manual front-seat adjustments, one USB input, Bluetooth connectivity, power windows, and a 7-inch touchscreen. The S adds 16-inch alloy wheels, body-color mirrors, premium cloth seats, remote keyless entry, and more driver-assistance features, while the EX brings a larger 10.25-inch screen, heated front seats, dual-zone automatic climate control, push-button start, and an 8-way power driver’s seat. CarGurus recommends the S trim as the best-value choice.
• Powertrain: Most trims use a 2.0-liter 4-cylinder engine with 147 horsepower and a CVT, and the base LX can also be had with a 6-speed manual. The CVT is described as managing the engine’s output well, with decent acceleration and refined, quiet behavior under load.
• Safety package: The S trim adds forward-collision warning and avoidance, lane-keep assist, lane-change assist, blind-spot warning, and rear cross-path detection. The X-Line loses forward-collision warning, while the EX brings it back. The GT-Line Turbo adds pedestrian detection to the forward-collision avoidance system.
• Infotainment: The LX, S, X-Line, and GT-Line use a 7-inch screen, while the EX and GT Turbo trims get a 10.25-inch display. Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are standard, and the larger screen is a meaningful upgrade if you want a more premium-feeling cabin.
• Fuel efficiency: The 2.0-liter engine with automatic transmission returns 27 mpg city, 33 highway, and 30 combined. The base LX with a manual transmission returns 25 mpg city, 31 highway, and 27 combined. The turbo setup returns 27 city, 32 highway, and 29 combined.

Which 2020 Kia Soul trim should I buy?

The 2020 Kia Soul is offered in 6 trim levels: LX, S, X-Line, EX, GT-Line, and GT-Line Turbo.

Here's the short version:

• LX: This is the cheapest way into the Soul, but it’s very bare-bones. You get the 7-inch touchscreen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, plus the core utility that makes the Soul appealing, but you give up a lot of convenience and driver-assistance content. It makes sense if your priority is the lowest possible price.
• S: This is the best-value trim. It adds alloy wheels, better interior materials, remote keyless entry, and a much more useful safety package, including blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-path detection, lane-change assist, and forward-collision warning and avoidance. If you want the smartest balance of price and equipment, this is the one to target.
• X-Line: This trim adds 18-inch wheels, fog lights, unique body cladding, and a more adventurous look, along with a leather-wrapped steering wheel and shift knob. It’s for you if styling matters more than value, but it gives up forward-collision warning, which is a notable trade-off.
• EX: This is the comfort-and-tech upgrade. You get the larger 10.25-inch screen, heated front seats, dual-zone climate control, push-button start, and an 8-way power driver’s seat. It suits you if you want a more upscale daily driver and are willing to pay more for it.
• GT-Line: This trim focuses on appearance, with 18-inch alloy wheels and unique front and rear fascias and side sills. It’s a good fit if you want a sportier look without moving all the way to the turbo model.
• GT-Line Turbo: This is the most powerful and best-equipped version, with the turbocharged engine, 7-speed dual-clutch transmission, upgraded interior details, a heated steering wheel, Harman Kardon audio, adaptive cruise control, head-up display, and pedestrian detection. It’s the right pick if you want the most performance and the richest feature set.

The safety-package content makes the S the most compelling everyday choice, while the EX and GT-Line Turbo are the trims that most clearly step up comfort and equipment.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2020 Kia Soul?

This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop carefully and still find worthwhile listings.

• Deal availability: 32.5% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 1,583 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 6.53% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 66.1% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $12,584, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2020 Kia Soul's resale value?

The current average of $12,660 sits slightly below last year's $13,545.

That softer pricing trend suggests the Soul has already absorbed some of its depreciation, which can help future sellers if they buy at the right price. If you purchase near the lower end of the current range and keep the car in clean condition, you may have a better chance of limiting your loss later. The strongest resale candidates will be the ones with clean history, good maintenance records, and desirable equipment.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.7/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2020 Kia Soul safe?

It earns an 8/10 safety score from our experts.

Standard safety features include front- and side-impact airbags, a reversing camera, traction control, hill-start assist, and a tire pressure monitoring system. The S trim adds forward-collision warning and avoidance, lane-keep assist, lane-change assist, blind-spot warning, and rear cross-path detection. One important caveat is that the X-Line loses forward-collision warning, though it returns on the EX, and the GT-Line Turbo adds pedestrian detection to the forward-collision system.

Should I buy a 2020 Kia Soul or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2020 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2020 if:

• 32.5% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• At 66.1% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 6.53% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.7/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• The 2020 stands out for refined driving dynamics, a lower starting price than most competitors, and form and function delivered in equal quantities.

Consider the 2021 if:

• At $13,730, the 2021 costs more than the current year's $12,660 average.
• It adds a standard rear occupant alert and updated suspension tuning for X-Line and GT-Line trims.

The bottom line: If you want the better value, the 2020 is the stronger buy because it combines lower pricing with strong owner satisfaction and broad utility. If you’re willing to spend more for a newer model-year setup and a few practical updates, the 2021 is the cleaner alternative.
