CarGurus Analysis: 2020 Ford F-150
overall

Summary
With 1,263 currently listed for sale near Cleveland, OH and an average price of $27,735, 13.9% of 2020 Ford F-150s for sale on CarGurus are rated as good or great deals.
Favorably reviewed: Owners rated the 2020 Ford F-150 4.72 / 5 stars and CarGurus experts gave it an 8.33 / 10.
88.7% of 2020 F-150 models on CarGurus are accident free.
Why it stands out
The 2020 Ford F-150 stands out as a full-size pickup that tries to balance everyday comfort with real work capability. It offers an accommodating and modern interior, comfortable road manners, and a lineup of engines that provide the power and torque needed to hold its own at the worksite. That mix makes it appealing to buyers who want a truck that can serve as a commuter, family hauler, and tow vehicle without giving up the basics of pickup usefulness.
It also brings standout tech and comfort features, along with a stylish design and a spacious cabin. Those strengths help explain why it can feel more polished than a bare-bones work truck. At the same time, the 2020 Ford F-150 is not perfect: advanced safety features are not standard, and its interior materials feel cheap. For shoppers, that means the truck’s appeal comes from its broad capability and comfort, while its limitations are most noticeable in the areas of standard safety equipment and cabin quality.

The 2020 Raptor gets almost everything right — performance, comfort, design, and capability. It’s not just a truck; it’s an experience. Every time I drive it, it reminds me why this model has such a loyal following. ⸻ What I Think of Its Features The twin-turbo 3.5 L EcoBoost engine delivers incredible power and torque, and the 10-speed transmission keeps it smooth whether you’re cruising the highway or tearing up dirt roads. The suspension is what truly sets it apart — it absorbs rough terrain like it’s nothing, but somehow still rides comfortably on pavement. Inside, it’s spacious, refined, and well-equipped. The technology and controls are intuitive, and even though it’s built for off-road performance, it doesn’t sacrifice daily comfort. It feels just as confident on a long trip as it does on a back trail. ⸻ Is It a Good Value? Yes — for the right driver. You’re paying for both capability and character. If you’ll actually use what it was built for — adventure, off-road travel, or simply having the most capable full-size truck on the road — then it’s worth every dollar. Of course, if you’re buying it just for city commuting, the value depends on how much you want the performance and presence. Fuel economy and tire wear are part of the trade-off, but the Raptor delivers something few trucks can: it makes driving fun again. ⸻ What It’s Missing No vehicle is perfect. The Raptor’s towing capacity isn’t as high as some other F-150 models, and it’s definitely a large truck to maneuver in tight parking lots. It also drinks more fuel than your average pickup, and parts like the suspension or tires cost more to replace. But for me, those drawbacks are minor compared to what it offers in power, confidence, and enjoyment. ⸻ What I’d Compare It To If you want to compare, the Ram 1500 TRX is the closest rival — louder, heavier, and a bit wilder. The Raptor, though, strikes a better balance between power and everyday drivability. I’d also compare it to the Chevy Silverado Trail Boss or GMC AT4 for someone who wants off-road ability without going full performance truck. ⸻ Overall The 2020 Raptor is one of those rare trucks that feels alive. It’s strong, capable, and surprisingly refined. Whether you’re driving across the country or exploring back roads, it’s a truck that makes you want to keep going. That’s why I gave it a perfect 5-star rating.

The picture is deceiving. It’s actually missing driver side running board. And the inside was very dirty. Back head rest was also missing.

|---|---|
| Current Average Price | $28,533 |
| Year-Round Low | $28,513 |
| Year-Round High | $30,643 |
| Average Price a Year Ago | $30,642 |
| Change vs. Last Year | −6.88% |
Prices have softened 6.88% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.
There are 9,577 listings available, which suggests you should have a healthy set of options to compare.
Is the 2020 Ford F-150 a good car?
Yes — the 2020 Ford F-150 earns a 4.72/5 user rating and an 8.33/10 expert rating. The model scores 9/10 across Performance and Form and function.
Owners consistently praise its power, smooth ride, and interior comfort, and many also like the engine performance from the 3.5L EcoBoost and 5.0L V8 options. The truck’s broad capability and comfortable road manners make it a strong fit if you want a commuter, family hauler, and tow vehicle in one package. The main trade-offs are that advanced safety features are not standard and the interior materials feel cheap.
With 30.1% of listings marked as good or great deals, the market still offers some room to shop selectively.
Is the 2020 Ford F-150 reliable?
Owners rate it 4.72/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.
Owner feedback points to a truck that feels dependable, with praise centered on power, comfort, and the kind of everyday usability that helps a vehicle stay in service for the long haul. The expert evaluation also emphasizes that the F-150 is built to handle towing, hauling, and daily driving without losing composure. If you buy used, the biggest long-term ownership risk is finding a truck that has been worked hard without being maintained carefully.
What should I look for when buying a used 2020 Ford F-150?
Accident-free inventory is solid at 78.5% — always verify the vehicle history report.
You should still check the history report carefully, because a clean listing percentage does not replace a proper records review. Prioritize a pre-purchase inspection that focuses on wear from towing, hauling, and daily use. Pay close attention to cabin condition, since the truck’s interior materials are a known weak point.
Key things to evaluate:
- Trim level: The XL is the work-truck starting point with steel wheels, air conditioning, manual locks, and a 2.3-inch driver information display, while the XLT adds 17-inch painted aluminum wheels, chrome bumpers and grille, cruise control, SYNC 3 infotainment, and a WiFi hotspot. Higher trims add more comfort and luxury, but the base trim is the most stripped-down.
- Powertrain: You get a 3.3-liter V6 with 290 horsepower and 265 pound-feet of torque, a 2.7-liter turbocharged EcoBoost V6 with 325 hp and 400 lb-ft, a 5.0-liter V8 with 395 hp and 400 lb-ft, a 3.5-liter EcoBoost V6 with 375 hp and 470 lb-ft, and a 3.0-liter turbodiesel V6 with 250 hp and 440 lb-ft. The V8, turbo EcoBoost V6s, and turbodiesel are the better fits for towing and hauling.
- Safety package: Ford Co-Pilot360 includes automatic high beams, blind-spot warning with rear cross-traffic alert, lane-departure warning, automatic emergency braking, and adaptive cruise control. Some of these features are available or standard only on higher trims, and the base XL can be equipped with a reverse sensing system.
- Infotainment: SYNC 3 uses an 8-inch touchscreen and adds Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, enhanced voice recognition, pinch-to-zoom map functionality, and smart-charging USB ports. FordPass with a 4G WiFi modem is available on XLT-and-up trims and can pair up to 10 devices.
- Fuel efficiency: The turbodiesel with RWD returns 21 mpg city, 29 highway, 24 combined. The 2.7-liter EcoBoost V6 with RWD returns 20 mpg city, 26 highway, 22 combined. The V8 returns 17 mpg city, 23 highway, 19 combined, and the Raptor returns 15 mpg city, 18 highway, 16 combined.
Which 2020 Ford F-150 trim should I buy?
The 2020 Ford F-150 is offered in 7 trim levels: XL, XLT, Lariat, King Ranch, Platinum, Raptor, and Limited.
Here's the short version:
- XL: This is the most basic choice, aimed at buyers who want a straightforward work truck with standard automatic emergency braking and the essentials only.
- XLT: This is the best-value trim for most shoppers because it adds SYNC 3, an 8-inch touchscreen, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, a WiFi hotspot, and more everyday convenience.
- Lariat: This is the sweet spot if you want a more upscale cabin, with leather-trimmed seats, heated power-folding mirrors, dual-zone climate control, and power heated and cooled front seats.
- King Ranch: Choose this if you want a distinctive Western-themed interior, plus a premium sound system, heated rear seats, and a remote release tailgate.
- Platinum: This trim leans into luxury with chrome badging, LED bed lighting and fog lamps, power outlets, ambient lighting, and massaging front seats.
- Raptor: This is the off-road-focused model, with a wider body, lifted suspension, Fox Racing Shox, skid plates, and specialized terrain modes.
- Limited: This is the most comfort-focused version, with premium leather upholstery, a dual-panel moonroof, and upscale exterior trim.
The XL includes standard forward automatic emergency braking, while Ford Co-Pilot360 features are available or standard on higher trims.
Is now a good time to buy a used 2020 Ford F-150?
This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market.
- Deal availability: 30.1% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Inventory: There are 9,577 listings available.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 6.88% compared with last year.
- Clean inventory: 78.5% of listings are accident-free.
If you find a listing below $28,513, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
What is the 2020 Ford F-150's resale value?
The current average of $28,533 sits slightly below last year's $30,642.
That price movement suggests the market has cooled enough to give you better entry pricing now, but it also means a future seller may face a softer resale environment than owners saw a year ago. If you buy well and keep the truck in strong condition, you can help offset some of that depreciation. Trucks with broad appeal and strong demand tend to hold attention better than niche vehicles.
Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.72/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.
Is the 2020 Ford F-150 safe?
The 2020 Ford F-150 earns top marks from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety in its various crash tests, and SuperCrew trucks received five out of five stars from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, while SuperCab and regular cab models received four out of five.
It earns an 8/10 safety score from our experts.
Ford makes pre-collision assist with automatic emergency braking standard on the F-150, including the XL trim. Ford Co-Pilot360 adds automatic high beams, blind-spot warning with rear cross-traffic alert, lane-departure warning, automatic emergency braking, and adaptive cruise control. The truck is also available with Pro Trailer Backup Assist for easier towing.
One caveat is that advanced safety features are not standard across the lineup, so you should confirm exactly which driver-assistance equipment is on the truck you’re considering.
Should I buy a 2020 Ford F-150 or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2020 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2020 if:
- 30.1% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Accident-free inventory is solid at 78.5% — always verify the vehicle history report.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 6.88% compared with last year.
- Owners rate it 4.72/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
- It balances comfort, towing strength, and everyday usability in a polished full-size pickup.
Consider the 2019 if:
- At $26,265, the 2019 costs less than the current year's $28,533 average.
- It stays current with modest updates and still feels relevant.
Consider the 2021 if:
- At $32,741, the 2021 costs more than the current year's $28,533 average.
- It adds a redesigned interior, more tech, and an available hybrid powertrain.
The bottom line: If you want the best mix of price, capability, and available inventory, the 2020 is the sensible default. If your budget is tighter, the 2019 can save you money while keeping the same basic formula. If you want newer tech and are willing to pay more, the 2021 is the upgrade path.
