What should I look for when buying a used 2020 Dodge Charger?

At 56% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.

You should start with a vehicle history report and then prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially if you’re considering a higher-mileage or higher-performance example. Focus on overall condition, signs of prior bodywork, and whether the car’s equipment matches the trim you want. Because advanced safety features are not standard, it’s worth checking exactly which driver-assistance items are included on the specific listing.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The SXT comes with 17-inch alloy wheels, remote start, push-button start, power-adjustable front seats, rear parking sensors, and a 7-inch touchscreen. The GT adds 20-inch wheels, a more pronounced lower front spoiler, a rear trunk lip spoiler, a hood scoop, dual-zone climate control, a WiFi hot spot, HD radio, and an 8.4-inch screen. The Hellcat adds leather upholstery, heated and ventilated front seats, heated rear seats, blind-spot monitoring, and the widebody kit is available on the R/T Scat Pack as well.
• Powertrain: The SXT and GT use a 3.6-liter V6 with 292 horsepower and 300 horsepower, respectively, while the R/T uses a 5.7-liter Hemi V8 with 370 hp and 395 lb-ft of torque. The R/T Scat Pack steps up to a 6.4-liter Hemi V8 with 485 hp and 475 lb-ft of torque, and the SRT Hellcat Widebody uses a supercharged 6.2-liter V8 with 707 horsepower and 650 pound-feet of torque. AWD is available on the SXT and GT.
• Safety package: Standard safety features include front- and side-impact airbags, traction control, and rear parking sensors. Available driver-assistance features include forward-collision avoidance with automatic emergency braking, lane-departure warning, lane-keeping assist, adaptive cruise control, automatic high-beams, blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, and rain-sensing windshield wipers. These features are not standard across the lineup.
• Infotainment: The SXT uses a 7-inch touchscreen, while all other trims use an 8.4-inch touchscreen. The system includes standard Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, plus Bluetooth and USB connectivity, with available satellite radio, available HD radio, and available navigation.
• Fuel efficiency: The most efficient version returns 19 mpg city, 30 highway, 23 combined. AWD drops that to 18 mpg city, 27 highway, 21 combined. The R/T returns 16 mpg city, 25 highway, 19 combined, and the Hellcat Widebody returns 12 mpg city, 21 highway, 15 combined.

Which 2020 Dodge Charger trim should I buy?

The 2020 Dodge Charger is offered in 4 trim levels: SXT, GT, R/T, and Hellcat.

Here's the short version:

• SXT: This is the entry point, and it gives you the Charger’s core sedan practicality with the 7-inch touchscreen, remote start, push-button start, rear parking sensors, and power-adjustable front seats. It makes the most sense if you want the lowest-cost way into the lineup and can live without the extra visual and comfort upgrades.
• GT: This is the best-value trim for many shoppers because it adds the 8.4-inch screen, dual-zone climate control, WiFi hot spot, HD radio, 20-inch wheels, and more aggressive styling. It also keeps the V6 formula but adds more polish and a stronger feature set.
• R/T: This is the right pick if you want the V8 experience, with the 5.7-liter Hemi, upgraded performance suspension, and active exhaust. It’s the trim to choose if performance matters more than value-focused equipment.
• Hellcat: This is the top-end choice for buyers who want the most extreme power and the most upscale equipment in the lineup, including leather upholstery, heated and ventilated front seats, heated rear seats, and blind-spot monitoring. It’s the one to buy if you want maximum output and don’t mind paying for it.

Advanced safety features are available, but they are not standard on every trim.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2020 Dodge Charger?

This is a moderate market for selective buyers, so it pays to compare listings carefully and move quickly on strong examples.

• Deal availability: 27.6% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 2,367 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 4.56% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 56.0% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $22,703, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2020 Dodge Charger's resale value?

The current average of $23,273 sits slightly below last year's $24,385.

That softer pricing suggests the market has become a bit more buyer-friendly, which can work against future sellers if the trend continues. On the other hand, a lower entry price today can help keep the car attractive to used shoppers later, especially if the vehicle is well maintained and equipped with desirable features. Strong-condition examples with the right trim and equipment should hold up better than average.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.93/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2020 Dodge Charger safe?

The 2020 Dodge Charger earns an 8/10 safety score from our experts.

Standard safety features include a full array of front- and side-impact airbags, traction control, and rear parking sensors. Available driver-assistance features include forward-collision avoidance with automatic emergency braking, lane-departure warning, lane-keeping assist, adaptive cruise control, automatic high-beams, blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, and rain-sensing windshield wipers. Those features are helpful, but they are not standard across the lineup, so you should verify exactly what’s included on the specific car you’re considering.

Should I buy a 2020 Dodge Charger or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2020 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2020 if:

• 27.6% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• At 56% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 4.56% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.93/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• It combines sedan practicality with a performance-focused personality and available all-wheel drive.

Consider the 2021 if:

• At $26,611, the 2021 costs more than the current year's $23,273 average.
• It adds a new track-ready variant that pushes the Hellcat V8 further.

The bottom line: If you want the better value, the 2020 is the smarter buy because it delivers the Charger’s core strengths at a lower average price and with strong owner satisfaction. If you’re willing to spend more for a newer model-year update and a more extreme performance option, the 2021 is the better path.
