CarGurus Analysis: 2020 Dodge Challenger
overall

Summary
With 243 currently listed for sale near Los Angeles, CA and an average price of $36,427, 25.5% of 2020 Dodge Challengers for sale on CarGurus are rated as good or great deals.
Favorably reviewed: Owners rated the 2020 Dodge Challenger 4.85 / 5 stars and CarGurus experts gave it an 8 / 10.
77.4% of 2020 Challenger models on CarGurus are accident free.
Why it stands out
The 2020 Dodge Challenger stands out by blending retro styling with modern technology and heart-pounding performance. It is also one of the last remaining modern muscle cars, and its appeal comes from holding fast to that old-school character while still using current automotive technology to create one of the most fun-loving coupes on the market.
For 2020, the Challenger is largely unchanged, but it does gain several new colors, some additional interior design choices, and a 50th Anniversary package for some trims. That combination helps keep the car fresh without losing the distinctive personality that defines it. Buyers looking for a coupe with a spacious interior, easy-to-use technology, and powerful engine choices will find plenty to like, though the styling may be polarizing and advanced safety features are not standard.

I have to say the Dodge Challenger Widebody Scat Pack is an exciting car all around. It is a heavy, solid old school style MUSCLE CAR in all the good ways...spacious cabin with nice visibility, comfortable seats, all the very (easily) usable bells and whistles you could want and a huge trunk. Lots of engine gives it more than plenty of grunt and I am getting 18mpg all around driving. Solid build, great performance with no issues at all. I couldnt be happier with the value and how the car makes me feel. Very highly recommended!

The expert review also emphasizes that the Challenger combines modern automotive technology with its old-school character in a way that feels well executed and easy to live with.
The ownership risk for used buyers is less about outright reliability and more about finding a well-kept example, since performance-oriented cars can vary widely in how they were driven and maintained.
What should I look for when buying a used 2020 Dodge Challenger?
At 62% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
You should start with a vehicle history report and then prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially if you’re considering a higher-performance trim. Pay close attention to signs of hard use, uneven wear, and any evidence that the car has been modified or tracked.
Key things to evaluate:
- Trim level: The SXT starts with 18-inch aluminum wheels, a power-adjustable driver’s seat, remote keyless entry, dual-zone climate control, and a 7-inch touchscreen. The GT adds 20-inch wheels, a hood scoop, remote start, a leather-wrapped steering wheel with paddle shifters, and houndstooth cloth seats. The R/T Scat Pack adds heated front seats, a heated steering wheel, and the larger 8.4-inch touchscreen, while Hellcat models add a dual-intake hood scoop setup.
- Powertrain: The SXT and GT use a 3.6-liter V6 with 305 horsepower and 268 pound-feet of torque, with rear-wheel drive or available AWD. The R/T uses a 5.7-liter Hemi V8, the R/T Scat Pack steps up to a 6.4-liter Hemi V8 with 485 hp and 475 lb-ft, and Hellcat variants use a supercharged 6.2-liter V8.
- Safety package: Standard equipment includes front- and side-impact airbags, supplemental side curtain airbags, traction control, brake assist, and a child-seat anchoring system. The optional technology group adds forward collision warning and adaptive cruise control, while blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-path alert, and ParkSense reverse sensing are also available.
- Infotainment: The standard setup is a 7-inch touchscreen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. The available Uconnect 8.4 adds a larger screen and Garmin-based navigation with real-time traffic updates.
- Fuel efficiency: The base V6 with rear-wheel drive returns 19 mpg city, 30 highway, 23 combined. The V6 with AWD returns 18 mpg city, 27 highway, 21 combined. The 5.7-liter V8 with the 8-speed automatic returns 16 mpg city, 25 highway, 19 combined, and the SRT Hellcat Redeye returns 13 mpg city, 21 highway, 15 combined.
Which 2020 Dodge Challenger trim should I buy?
The 2020 Dodge Challenger is offered in 9 trim levels: SXT, GT, R/T, R/T Scat Pack, R/T Scat Pack Widebody, SRT Hellcat, SRT Hellcat Widebody, SRT Hellcat Redeye, and SRT Hellcat Redeye Widebody.
Here's the short version:
- SXT: This is the entry point, and it gives you the core Challenger experience with the 7-inch touchscreen, dual-zone climate control, and a power-adjustable driver’s seat. It makes sense if you want the look and space without stretching for performance hardware.
- GT: This is the best-value trim for many shoppers because it adds more style and convenience, including 20-inch wheels, remote start, paddle shifters, and a leather-wrapped steering wheel. It also keeps the available AWD option, which broadens its appeal.
- R/T: This is the first trim that brings V8 power, along with performance upgrades and an active exhaust system. Choose it if you want the classic muscle-car feel without jumping to the pricier high-output models.
- R/T Scat Pack: This is the performance-for-the-dollar pick. It adds the 6.4-liter Hemi V8, Brembo four-wheel disc brakes, launch control, heated front seats, a heated steering wheel, and the larger 8.4-inch touchscreen.
- R/T Scat Pack Widebody: This is for you if you want the Scat Pack formula with a wider stance, flared fenders, wider tires, and a wider track. It’s the more serious handling-focused version of the Scat Pack.
- SRT Hellcat: This is the jump to supercharged power, with a 717-hp V8 and the kind of acceleration that defines the top end of the lineup. It suits buyers who want maximum straight-line performance.
- SRT Hellcat Widebody: This adds the wider bodywork and the benefits that come with it, including a more planted feel in corners. It’s the better choice if you want Hellcat power with more chassis presence.
- SRT Hellcat Redeye: This is the extreme-power version, with 797 horsepower and an automatic transmission only. It’s for buyers who want the most aggressive factory performance in the lineup.
- SRT Hellcat Redeye Widebody: This combines the Redeye’s output with the wider body setup for the most dramatic version of the car.
The optional technology group adds forward collision warning and adaptive cruise control, and other safety features remain optional rather than standard.
Is now a good time to buy a used 2020 Dodge Challenger?
This is a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop with some leverage if you’re patient.
- Deal availability: 30.5% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Inventory: There are 2,068 listings available.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 6.59% compared with last year.
- Clean inventory: 62.0% of listings are accident-free.
If you find a listing below $27,612, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
What is the 2020 Dodge Challenger's resale value?
The current average of $28,928 sits slightly below last year's $30,969.
That price movement suggests the market has already adjusted downward, which can help you buy at a better entry point today. For a future seller, that also means resale will depend heavily on condition, mileage, trim desirability, and how well the car has been maintained.
Because the Challenger still has strong enthusiast appeal and a broad range of trims, cleaner examples should remain easier to move than neglected ones. Higher-performance versions may hold attention well, but they can also be more sensitive to mileage and wear.
Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.85/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.
Is the 2020 Dodge Challenger safe?
The 2020 Dodge Challenger earns a Good score in many phases of IIHS crash tests, but it also earns a Marginal overall score. It earns four-star ratings in front driver-side crash and rollover testing, and five-star ratings for front passenger-side testing from NHTSA.
It earns a 5/10 safety score from our experts.
Standard safety equipment includes front- and side-impact airbags, supplemental side curtain airbags, traction control, brake assist, and a child-seat anchoring system. The optional technology group adds forward collision warning and adaptive cruise control, and blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-path alert, and ParkSense reverse sensing are also available.
The main caveat is that advanced safety features are not standard, so you should pay close attention to whether a used example has the optional safety equipment you want.
Should I buy a 2020 Dodge Challenger or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2020 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2020 if:
- 30.5% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- At 62% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 6.59% compared with last year.
- Owners rate it 4.85/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
- The 2020 adds new colors, extra interior choices, and a 50th Anniversary package for some trims.
Consider the 2021 if:
- At $31,509, the 2021 costs more than the current year's $28,928 average.
- It leans even harder into straight-line speed and high-tech dragster character.
The bottom line: If you want the better value, the 2020 is the smarter starting point because prices have eased and inventory is healthy. If you’re willing to pay more for a newer model year and want the same core formula with a slightly more focused personality, the 2021 is the alternative to compare.
