Used 2020 Chevrolet Equinox for Sale nearChicago, IL

How much does the 2020 Chevrolet Equinox cost?

Prices have softened 8.17% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.

There are 5,641 listings available, which gives you a solid pool of options to compare.

Is the 2020 Chevrolet Equinox a good car?

Generally — the 2020 Chevrolet Equinox earns a 4.24/5 user rating and a 7.67/10 expert rating. The standout strength is Technology at 10/10.

Owners repeatedly praise its comfort, fuel economy, and value for money, and they also tend to like the good feature content for the price. The trade-offs are familiar: some shoppers note limited standard equipment on lower trims, while others point to weak power and a cheap-feeling interior.

That fits the Equinox’s role as a practical compact crossover for everyday driving, especially if you want more cargo space and a higher seating position than a midsize sedan. With 32.7% of listings marked as good or great deals, the market still gives you room to shop carefully.

Is the 2020 Chevrolet Equinox reliable?

Owners rate it 4.24/5, a solid signal of long-term satisfaction.

The owner feedback points to a dependable, trouble-free ownership experience for many shoppers, with comfort and value showing up again and again in the reviews. The expert evaluation also describes it as a straightforward, basic tool of its trade, which reinforces the idea that it is built for everyday use rather than drama.

Chevrolet also includes a free first maintenance visit, which helps soften early ownership costs a bit. For used buyers, the main long-term risk is less about outright durability and more about finding one that has been maintained well and not worn hard.

What should I look for when buying a used 2020 Chevrolet Equinox?

At 66.3% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.

You should start with a vehicle history report and then prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially if the listing price looks unusually attractive. Focus on body condition, signs of prior repair, and whether the equipment on the car matches the trim you think you’re buying.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: L, LS, LT, and Premier are the trims named for this model year. Lower trims are where you’re most likely to notice missing standard features, while Premier adds a more upscale look with roof rails, extra chrome detailing, and a more premium cabin presentation.
• Powertrain: The standard 1.5-liter turbocharged 4-cylinder makes 170 horsepower and 203 pound-feet of torque, while the optional 2.0-liter turbo 4-cylinder makes 252 hp and 260 lb-ft and is the better choice if you want stronger acceleration or the 3,500-pound towing capacity.
• Safety package: Chevy Safety Assist is standard and includes forward-collision warning with pedestrian detection, automatic emergency braking, lane departure warning, lane-keeping assistance, a safe following distance monitor, and automatic high-beam headlights. Adaptive cruise control, blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic warning, and a Safety Alert Seat are available on some trims, so check carefully for feature gaps.
• Infotainment: Systems use 7-inch or 8-inch touchscreens and include Bluetooth for two devices, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, a 4G LTE WiFi hotspot, and Chevrolet Connected Access. Higher trims can add a high-definition display, cloud connectivity, improved voice recognition, HD Radio, satellite radio, navigation, and a Bose premium sound system.
• Fuel efficiency: The 1.5-liter AWD setup averaged 24.3 mpg in testing, versus an EPA combined rating of 28 mpg. The 2.0-liter turbo AWD setup averaged 22.1 mpg, versus an EPA combined rating of 24 mpg.

Which 2020 Chevrolet Equinox trim should I buy?

The 2020 Chevrolet Equinox is offered in 4 trim levels: L, LS, LT, and Premier.

Here's the short version:

• L: This is the simplest way into the Equinox, but it is also the trim where you’re most likely to feel the lack of standard equipment that some owners mention. Buy it only if price matters most and you’re comfortable with a basic setup.
• LS: This is the best-value trim for many shoppers because it keeps the Equinox’s core strengths intact while staying closer to the model’s practical mission. It should be your starting point if you want the essentials without paying for luxury extras.
• LT: This is the trim to target if you want a better mix of equipment and value, especially since it can get the Midnight Edition appearance package. It makes the Equinox feel more complete without jumping all the way to the top of the range.
• Premier: This is the most upscale choice, with the more powerful engine, available AWD, a panoramic sunroof, and the richest tech and cabin presentation. Choose it if you want the most polished Equinox experience and are willing to pay for it.

Chevy Safety Assist is standard across the lineup, but some driver-assistance upgrades still depend on trim level.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2020 Chevrolet Equinox?

This is a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop patiently but still move quickly on the right listing.

• Deal availability: 32.7% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 5,641 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 8.17% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 66.3% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $15,380, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2020 Chevrolet Equinox's resale value?

The current average of $15,380 sits slightly below last year's $16,748.

That decline suggests the market has already adjusted downward, which can make the Equinox easier to buy now but also means future sellers may need to price competitively. If you own one, keeping mileage, condition, and service history in good shape will matter more when it comes time to resell.

Vehicles with solid owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.24/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2020 Chevrolet Equinox safe?

The 2020 Chevrolet Equinox is a Top Safety Pick and earns five-star ratings in each NHTSA evaluation, plus a four-star rating for rollover resistance.

It earns a 9/10 safety score from our experts.

Chevy Safety Assist is standard on every trim and includes forward-collision warning with pedestrian detection, automatic emergency braking, lane departure warning, lane-keeping assistance, a safe following distance monitor, and automatic high-beam headlights. A reversing camera, rear-seat reminder, and Teen Driver technology are also standard.

Some additional driver-assistance features, including blind-spot monitoring and rear cross-traffic warning, depend on trim level, so you should confirm the exact equipment on any used listing you’re considering.

Should I buy a 2020 Chevrolet Equinox or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2020 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2020 if:

• 32.7% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• At 66.3% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 8.17% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.24/5 — a solid satisfaction signal.
• It stands out for standard advanced safety features and easy-to-use technology.

Consider the 2019 if:

• At $13,982, the 2019 costs less than the current year's $15,380 average.
• It adds HD rear-view and surround-view cameras, plus an updated infotainment system.

The bottom line: The 2020 is the better pick if you want the stronger safety and tech story, along with a market that still offers decent deal availability. If your priority is spending less up front, the 2019 is the smarter value play, especially if you find one with the camera and infotainment upgrades in good condition.
