CarGurus Analysis: 2020 Acura TLX
overall

Summary
With 791 currently listed for sale and an average price of $21,979, 34.1% of 2020 Acura TLX listings on CarGurus are rated as good or great deals.
Favorably reviewed: Owners rated the 2020 Acura TLX 4.62 / 5 stars and CarGurus experts gave it a 6.83 / 10.
64.9% of 2020 Acura TLX listings on CarGurus are accident free.
Why it stands out
The 2020 Acura TLX stands out as a luxury sedan with a clear driver-focused personality. In the expert test drive data, Acura is described as the Japanese luxury brand for driving enthusiasts, and the TLX is singled out as a model that can “show people a good time” when equipped with Super Handling All-Wheel Drive. That makes it appealing to buyers who want a premium sedan that feels more engaging on a familiar road than many rivals.
It also has practical strengths that help its case. The listed pros point to multiple powertrain options and excellent value for money, which suggests the 2020 TLX offers variety without losing sight of price. At the same time, it is not presented as a perfect package: the cons call out poor ergonomic design and outdated technology, and owner feedback echoes concerns about the interior layout and some controls. In other words, the 2020 Acura TLX is distinctive because it blends enjoyable driving manners and strong value with a cabin that can feel less polished than its premium badge implies.

All the features you would expect to have in a new car today. Luxury car brand come standard with features like all leather interior with more comfortable seats at the base trim level. V6 engine in this sedan gives the car a good power to weight ratio and easily runs through all gears in the 9 speed transmission. Always feel like there is more power available, in each gear when driving in the highway.

How much does the 2020 Acura TLX cost?
| Metric | Value |
|---|---|
| Current Average Price | $21,942 |
| Year-Round Low | $21,122 |
| Year-Round High | $22,540 |
| Average Price a Year Ago | $22,473 |
| Change vs. Last Year | −2.36% |
Prices have softened 2.36% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.
There are 791 listings available, which gives you a decent amount of inventory to compare.
Is the 2020 Acura TLX a good car?
Yes — the 4.62/5 user rating points to strong owner satisfaction, and the expert rating is 6.83/10. The standout strength is Cost effectiveness at 10/10.
Owners consistently praise the smooth ride, handling, and overall features, and the car’s exterior design also earns positive attention. The TLX’s driver-focused personality and engaging road manners fit best if you want a premium sedan that feels more lively than many rivals.
The trade-offs are clear: the cabin layout and controls can feel awkward, and the technology is dated. Even so, the TLX still makes sense if you value driving enjoyment and value over the most modern interior experience.
Only 34.1% of listings are priced as good or great deals, so the better examples may not linger long.
Is the 2020 Acura TLX reliable?
Owners rate it 4.62/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.
User feedback points to a smooth, dependable-feeling ownership experience, with many owners describing the car as trouble-free enough to appreciate its ride quality and overall features. The expert review also emphasizes that the TLX feels solid on the road and comfortable for daily driving, which supports the sense that it can be a car you count on.
The cost-effectiveness commentary also notes that Acura regularly offers discounted lease deals, which reinforces the TLX’s value-oriented ownership case. For used buyers, the main long-term risk is less about outright durability and more about living with aging technology and less polished controls over time.
What should I look for when buying a used 2020 Acura TLX?
At 64.7% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
You should start with a vehicle history report and then prioritize a careful pre-purchase inspection, especially if the car has been in any collision. Focus on panel alignment, paint consistency, tire wear, and how the electronics and driver-assistance systems behave in real-world use.
Key things to evaluate:
- Trim level: The A-Spec option package adds 19-inch wheels, revised bumper designs, side sill skirts, and oversize round exhaust outlets, while the PMC Edition adds unique body-color and gloss black exterior accents. The Technology Package is the recommended upgrade for comfort, convenience, safety, and infotainment enhancements.
- Powertrain: The standard setup uses a 206-horsepower, 2.4-liter 4-cylinder engine with an 8-speed dual-clutch automatic driving the front wheels, while higher versions add a 290-hp, 3.5-liter V6, a 9-speed automatic, and torque-vectoring SH-AWD. The V6 and SH-AWD combination is the more engaging choice.
- Safety package: Every TLX has adaptive cruise control, forward-collision warning, automatic emergency braking, lane-keeping assist, and road-departure mitigation. Blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert is included on all but the base TLX with no option packages.
- Infotainment: The TLX uses dual displays, with the bottom screen being a touchscreen and the top screen controlled by buttons and a knob. Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are included, and the Acura/ELS premium audio system is a highlight.
- Fuel efficiency: The TLX returned 23 mpg in testing, matching the EPA’s combined estimate.
Which 2020 Acura TLX trim should I buy?
The 2020 Acura TLX is offered in 3 trim levels: base TLX, A-Spec, and PMC Edition.
Here's the short version:
- base TLX: This is the entry point if you want the lowest price, but it misses the blind-spot monitoring system with rear cross-traffic alert unless you move beyond the base configuration with no option packages. It makes sense if you mainly want the TLX’s core value and don’t need the extra appearance or convenience upgrades.
- A-Spec: This is the best-value trim for most shoppers because it adds the styling upgrades that make the TLX look more distinctive, including 19-inch wheels, revised bumpers, side sill skirts, and oversize round exhaust outlets. It also pairs well with the recommended Technology Package if you want a more complete luxury-sedan experience.
- PMC Edition: This is the top-spec choice, with the 290-hp V6, 9-speed automatic, SH-AWD, and the full set of available equipment. It suits you if you want the most powerful and most exclusive TLX, but it’s more of a special-collection pick than the value play.
The safety package is standard across the lineup, but blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert is not included on the base TLX with no option packages.
Is now a good time to buy a used 2020 Acura TLX?
This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop carefully and still find worthwhile listings.
- Deal availability: 34.1% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Inventory: There are 791 listings available.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 2.36% compared with last year.
- Clean inventory: 64.7% of listings are accident-free.
If you find a listing below $21,122, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
What is the 2020 Acura TLX's resale value?
The current average of $21,942 sits slightly below last year's $22,473.
That decline suggests the TLX has softened in the market, which can help you as a buyer but may limit upside if you plan to resell soon. If you buy at the right price, you reduce the risk of taking a bigger depreciation hit later.
The model’s value story is still supported by its strong owner satisfaction and broad appeal as a premium sedan with engaging driving manners. Well-kept examples with desirable equipment should hold buyer interest better than neglected or poorly optioned ones.
Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.62/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.
Is the 2020 Acura TLX safe?
The 2020 Acura TLX does not qualify for a Top Safety Pick due to an Acceptable result in the IIHS small overlap frontal-impact test on the driver’s side, but it earns five-star ratings in every NHTSA test, including rollover.
It earns a 7/10 safety score from our experts.
Every TLX has adaptive cruise control, forward-collision warning, automatic emergency braking, lane-keeping assist, and road-departure mitigation. Blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert is included on all but the base TLX with no option packages.
The main caveat is that the driver-assistance systems can feel abrupt and less refined than newer rivals. If you want the safest-feeling ownership experience, you should pay close attention to how the ADAS behaves during your test drive.
Should I buy a 2020 Acura TLX or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2020 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2020 if:
- 34.1% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- At 64.7% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 2.36% compared with last year.
- Owners rate it 4.62/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
- It blends strong value with engaging driving manners, but the cabin tech and ergonomics are dated.
Consider the 2021 if:
- At $27,093, the 2021 costs more than the current year's $21,942 average.
- It brings a new platform, new exterior and interior, and updated powertrain choices.
The bottom line: If you want the better value and can live with older tech, the 2020 is the smarter buy. If you’d rather pay more for a newer-generation TLX with a fresher design and cabin, the 2021 is the better long-term pick. Price-sensitive buyers should lean toward the 2020, especially if they find a clean, well-equipped example below the low end of the range.
