Why it stands out
The 2018 Acura TLX stands out as a refined, sporty entry in the luxury sedan segment. Acura gave it a redesigned face, a faster infotainment system, retuned transmissions, and extra standard safety, all aimed at making the car more appealing to shoppers who may have overlooked it before. The sporty new A-Spec trims are highlighted as the real winners for 2018, giving the TLX a more distinctive personality.
What makes the 2018 Acura TLX appealing is that it combines competent performance with a more polished presentation. I absolutely love my TLX!! So I was pretty adamant about getting into a 2018 Honda Accord 2.0 Sport. I test drove it, was not a fan. So I decided to look at something comparable. Honestly, the Acura was far superior. Both in looks, performance (it’s a V6) so it’s got quite a punch, yet it drives so smooth. I love my car! Not sure I’ll ever own anything but Acura from now on!!

This is my second TLX. While I love driving in luxury, I refuse to pay over $50,000 for a vehicle. This car is fantastic all around. The interior is stylish and rich, while the exterior is impressively sporty. The hidden gem is the engine and the ride. You will not be disappointed with this car!

Is the 2018 Acura TLX reliable?
Owners rate it 4.8/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.
Owners describe the TLX as a vehicle they’re very pleased with, and the recurring themes in their feedback point to luxury features, smooth performance, stylish design, and a comfortable interior. That kind of feedback suggests you can count on the car to deliver a polished ownership experience over time.
The powertrain is described as predictable and linear, with the V6 pulling strongly and the transmission eager to downshift when you need passing power. That supports the impression of a dependable, easy-to-live-with sedan rather than one that feels finicky or unpredictable.
If you’re shopping used, the main long-term ownership risk is making sure the car’s condition matches its premium positioning, especially on higher-mileage examples where wear, maintenance history, and prior use matter more.
What should I look for when buying a used 2018 Acura TLX?
At 57.9% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
You should start with a vehicle history report and then prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially if you’re considering a higher-trim car with more equipment. Pay close attention to braking feel, infotainment behavior, and any signs that the car has seen hard use, since condition matters a lot in a luxury sedan like this. If you’re comparing multiple listings, focus on maintenance records, cosmetic wear, and whether the features you want are actually present on the specific car.
Key things to evaluate:
- Trim level: The base TLX FWD trim includes 17-inch alloy wheels, LED headlights, keyless entry and ignition, push-button start, dual-zone auto climate control, heated sports seats with faux leather, and Bluetooth, while higher trims add more comfort and convenience equipment.
- Powertrain: The base 2.4-liter engine is paired with an 8-speed dual-clutch transmission and front-wheel drive, while V6 models use a 3.5-liter engine with a 9-speed transmission and can be had with P-AWS or SH-AWD.
- Safety package: AcuraWatch is standard and includes adaptive cruise, auto high beams, lane-departure warning and intervention, forward-collision warning with auto brake, and road-departure mitigation. Blind-spot monitoring, parking sensors, and cameras are tied to optional packages or higher trims.
- Infotainment: The refreshed infotainment system is faster, but the dual-screen layout and dated graphics remain a weak point.
- Fuel efficiency: The base engine is rated at 23 mpg city, 33 highway, and 27 combined. The V6 is rated at 20 mpg city, 32 highway, and 24 combined, and AWD changes the highway figure to 30 while keeping the combined rating at 24.
Which 2018 Acura TLX trim should I buy?
The 2018 Acura TLX is offered in 4 trim levels: TLX FWD, TLX V6, TLX V6 with Technology Package, and TLX V6 with Technology Package and A-Spec Package.
Here's the short version:
- TLX FWD: This is the entry point, and it gives you the core TLX experience with the 2.4-liter engine, front-wheel drive, the 8-speed dual-clutch transmission, and a solid list of standard comfort and safety features. It makes sense if you want the lowest-cost way into the model.
- TLX V6: This is the better choice if you want stronger acceleration and a more satisfying powertrain without adding too much complexity. The V6’s extra performance is a major step up, and it’s the trim to consider if you care most about driving feel.
- TLX V6 with Technology Package: This is the best-value trim for many shoppers because it adds navigation, real leather, GPS-linked climate control, an upgraded 10-speaker stereo, and blind-spot monitoring. If you want the most balanced mix of luxury and safety, this is the one to target.
- TLX V6 with Technology Package and A-Spec Package: This is the enthusiast pick. It adds the sportier visual treatment, upgraded suspension tuning, wider 19-inch wheels, and the more distinctive personality that makes the 2018 update stand out.
AcuraWatch is standard, but blind-spot monitoring, parking sensors, and cameras are still tied to higher trims or packages.
Is now a good time to buy a used 2018 Acura TLX?
This is a moderate market, so you can shop selectively without expecting every listing to be a bargain.
- Deal availability: 30.1% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Inventory: There are 489 listings available.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 1.74% compared with last year.
- Clean inventory: 57.9% of listings are accident-free.
If you find a listing below $18,061, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
What is the 2018 Acura TLX's resale value?
The current average of $18,885 sits slightly below last year's $19,219.
That softer pricing suggests the TLX is in a buyer-friendly phase right now, which can help you if you’re shopping used but may limit upside if you plan to resell soon. For a future seller, the current trend implies you should expect pricing pressure unless the car is especially clean, well equipped, and well documented.
Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.8/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.
Is the 2018 Acura TLX safe?
The 2018 Acura TLX earns five-star ratings from NHTSA in all categories, though the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety rated it Acceptable in the Driver’s Side Small Overlap and Headlight tests and Marginal for child-seat anchor ease of use.
It earns an 8/10 safety score from our experts.
AcuraWatch is standard and includes adaptive cruise, auto high beams, lane-departure warning and intervention, forward-collision warning with auto brake, and road-departure mitigation. Blind-spot monitoring, parking sensors, and cameras are reserved for optional packages or higher trims.
The main caveat is that the IIHS results are not perfect, and the braking performance noted in testing is another point to keep in mind if you want the most confidence from a used example.
Should I buy a 2018 Acura TLX or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2018 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2018 if:
- 30.1% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- At 57.9% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 1.74% compared with last year.
- Owners rate it 4.8/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
- The 2018 refresh brought a redesigned face, a faster infotainment system, retuned transmissions, extra standard safety, and the sporty A-Spec trims that are highlighted as the real winners for the year.
The bottom line: If you want the refreshed TLX with stronger standard safety and the more distinctive A-Spec personality, the 2018 is the year to target. If you’re especially price-sensitive, you can still shop carefully and focus on the best-documented, cleanest examples, since the market currently gives you some room to compare listings.
