Why it stands out
The 2016 Acura TLX stands out as a performance luxury sedan that aims to balance driving appeal with premium ambition. Acura’s own positioning suggests that it is meant to deliver on both fronts, though the description also implies that doing so depends on added attention to detail. That makes the TLX distinctive as a car that tries to blend sportiness and luxury rather than leaning entirely toward one or the other.
It is also notable for what it represents for Acura more broadly. The summary frames the brand as being in a period of renewal, with leadership changes and a new design direction presented as hopeful first steps. In that context, the 2016 TLX is appealing to buyers who want a sedan tied to Acura’s effort to rebuild its identity and recapture the passion and pride associated with the brand.

I absolutely love this car. The best driving car I have ever had. I only wish there was a place to put a trash bag. I’m used to having a gear shift to hang it from. Other then that awesome ride!!!

A very easy car to drive. Solid quality after 57k miles... The weakness of this car is the transmission. As with many other vehicles with a high number of gears for their automatic transmissions. Other than that, a near perfect car.

2016 Acura TLX Price Trends
CarGurus tracks the prices of millions of used car listings every year. See how the average price of 2016 Acura TLX prices has changed over time.
See more price trendsHow much does the 2016 Acura TLX cost?
| Metric | Value |
|---|---|
| Current Average Price | $14,754 |
| Year-Round Low | $14,030.29 |
| Year-Round High | $15,109.25 |
| Average Price a Year Ago | $14,662 |
| Change vs. Last Year | +0.63% |
Prices have held steady compared to this time last year, signaling a stable and predictable market for this model year.
There are 567 listings available, which gives you a modest amount of inventory to compare before you buy.
If you find a listing below $14,030.29, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
Is the 2016 Acura TLX a good car?
Yes — the 2016 Acura TLX earns a 5/5 user rating and a 6.5/10 expert rating. The standout strength is Cost effectiveness at 9/10.
The TLX is positioned as a performance luxury sedan that tries to balance driving appeal with premium ambition, so it makes the most sense if you want a car that blends sportiness and luxury rather than leaning hard in one direction. The overview also frames it as part of Acura’s broader brand renewal, which may matter if you want a sedan tied to that effort to rebuild identity and excitement.
30.2% of listings are marked as good or great deals, so there is still room to shop selectively.
Is the 2016 Acura TLX reliable?
Owners rate it 5/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.
The overview presents the TLX as a premium sedan that aims to deliver both comfort and driving appeal, while the expert notes emphasize that Acura’s engineering can produce a car with real personality when the package comes together. The performance notes also point to a smooth and powerful V6, which supports the idea that the car can feel well sorted in everyday use.
The same performance notes also flag brake fade under hard, hot driving, so a used example with worn brakes or neglected maintenance could be more expensive to live with over time. For used buyers, that means long-term ownership risk is most likely to show up in wear items and condition, not just mileage.
What should I look for when buying a used 2016 Acura TLX?
At 52% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
You should start with a vehicle history report and then prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially if the car has been driven hard or shows signs of uneven wear. Focus on brake condition, tire wear, and evidence of prior bodywork, since those are the kinds of issues that can matter most on a used luxury sedan. If you are comparing multiple listings, give extra weight to cars with clean records and consistent maintenance.
Key things to evaluate:
- Trim level: The base setup is described as a value-priced sedan, but it can feel dated inside and lacks the more upscale equipment that helps the car feel premium.
- Powertrain: The car is offered with a 4-cylinder or V6 engine, and the V6 version is described as smooth and powerful; the performance notes also mention that the brakes can fade under hard use.
- Safety package: The car includes sophisticated driver-assistance and collision-avoidance technology, but the safety notes also point to a Marginal result in small-overlap frontal protection and a Marginal result for LATCH ease of use.
- Infotainment: The car uses a dual-screen layout, but it does not offer Wi-Fi access or smartphone projection technology such as Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.
- Fuel efficiency: The V6 test car was rated at 25 mpg, and the test loop returned 22.8 mpg.
Which 2016 Acura TLX trim should I buy?
The 2016 Acura TLX is offered in 2 trim levels: TLX 2.4, TLX 3.5 SH-AWD.
Here's the short version:
- Base trim: The TLX 2.4 is the value play, but it misses the stronger V6 performance and the more engaging feel that comes with the higher-spec setup.
- Premium/top trim: The TLX 3.5 SH-AWD is the one to target if you want the strongest performance, with the V6, SH-AWD, and the handling hardware that makes the car feel more alive.
- Off-road trim: Not applicable for this sedan.
The safety notes also point to a Marginal small-overlap frontal result and a Marginal LATCH rating, so condition and inspection matter regardless of trim.
Is now a good time to buy a used 2016 Acura TLX?
This is a moderate market for selective buyers, with enough inventory to shop carefully and enough deal activity to make comparison worthwhile.
- Deal availability: 30.2% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Inventory: There are 567 listings available.
- Price trend: Prices have held steady compared with last year.
- Clean inventory: 52.0% of listings are accident-free.
If you find a listing below $14,030.29, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
What is the 2016 Acura TLX's resale value?
The current average of $14,754 sits slightly above last year's $14,662.
That small increase suggests the TLX has held its value fairly steadily rather than swinging sharply in either direction. For a future seller, that kind of price stability can be helpful because it points to a market that is not rapidly softening. It also means condition, mileage, and equipment will likely matter more than timing alone when you go to sell.
Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 5/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.
Is the 2016 Acura TLX safe?
The TLX gets perfect five-star ratings across the board from NHTSA, but it also earns a Marginal rating for small-overlap frontal-impact protection from IIHS.
It earns a 7/10 safety score from our experts.
The safety content also points to a Marginal rating for the ease of use of its child safety seat LATCH anchors. Acura’s driver-assistance and collision-avoidance technology is described as sophisticated, but the crash-test caveats mean you should pay close attention to condition and repair history on any used example.
Should I buy a 2016 Acura TLX or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2016 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2016 if:
- 30.2% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- At 52% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
- Price trend: Prices have held steady compared with last year.
- Owners rate it 5/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
- The 2016 TLX is framed as part of Acura’s brand renewal, with a performance-luxury identity and a strong cost-effectiveness score.
Consider the 2015 if:
- At $13,531, the 2015 costs less than the current year's $14,754 average.
- It is a likable near-luxury sedan with rewarding driving dynamics and a long list of modern entertainment and safety technologies.
The bottom line: If you want the current-year TLX with stable pricing and a strong value story, the 2016 is the better starting point. If your priority is spending less up front, the 2015 is the more budget-friendly path and still brings many of the same core strengths.
