How much does the 2019 Toyota Prius cost?

Prices are up 3.02% year-over-year — a sign of continued demand for this model year.

There are 331 listings available, which gives you a modest amount of inventory to compare before you buy.

Is the 2019 Toyota Prius a good car?

Yes — the 2019 Toyota Prius earns a 5/5 user rating and a 7.33/10 expert rating. The standout strength is Cost effectiveness at 10/10.

Owners consistently praise its fuel economy, quiet cabin, reliability, comfort, and helpful features. That lines up with the car’s practical mission: it is aimed at everyday buyers who want efficiency, affordability, and usefulness without much fuss.

The main trade-offs are its polarizing styling and outdated technology. Even so, the Prius still fits well if you want a practical daily driver that emphasizes value and fuel savings over flash.

Only 31.1% of listings are priced as good or great deals, so the market still rewards shoppers who move quickly on the right example.

Is the 2019 Toyota Prius reliable?

Owners rate it 5/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

The owner feedback also points to reliability, dependability, and trouble-free ownership, with many drivers saying they trust it for daily use and appreciate its long-term value. The expert evaluation reinforces that theme by describing the Prius as historically reliable and trouble-free, with ownership that makes logical and financial sense.

Toyota’s cost-effectiveness notes also highlight that it has historically proven reliable and trouble-free. For used buyers, the main long-term risk is less about the hybrid mission itself and more about finding a well-kept example with a clean maintenance history.

What should I look for when buying a used 2019 Toyota Prius?

At 61.3% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.

You should start with a vehicle history report and then prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially if the car has had bodywork or shows uneven panel gaps, tire wear, or warning lights. Focus on overall condition, because the Prius is a value play only if the example you choose has been maintained well and hasn’t absorbed hidden damage.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The lineup ranges from L Eco to Limited, and the base trim is the most stripped-down. Higher trims add more convenience and tech, while the Limited gets the most upscale equipment.
• Powertrain: A 1.8-liter 4-cylinder engine works with an electric motor for 121 horsepower. The optional electric AWD system adds a rear motor and extra traction, but it also reduces fuel economy.
• Safety package: Toyota Safety Sense is standard and includes adaptive cruise control, forward-collision warning with automatic emergency braking, lane-departure warning, lane-keeping assist, and automatic high-beam headlights. LE trim adds blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, and parking sensors.
• Infotainment: The standard setup uses a 6.1-inch touchscreen with Bluetooth and a CD player. The Limited trim gets an 11.6-inch display, navigation, the Entune App Suite, a JBL sound system, satellite radio, and Safety Connect. Neither system includes Apple CarPlay or Android Auto.
• Fuel efficiency: A standard front-drive Prius gets 52 mpg in combined driving, or 56 mpg in L Eco trim. The AWD-e version gets 50 mpg combined.

Which 2019 Toyota Prius trim should I buy?

The 2019 Toyota Prius is offered in 4 trim levels: L Eco, LE, XLE, and Limited.

Here's the short version:

• L Eco: This is the efficiency-first choice, and it makes the most sense if you want the lowest starting price and the best fuel economy. It is the simplest trim, so you should expect fewer comfort and convenience features than the higher grades.
• LE: This is the best-value trim for many shoppers because it adds useful safety equipment like blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, and parking sensors. If you want a smarter balance of price and features, this is the trim to target.
• XLE: This trim is the better pick if you want a more upscale daily driver with more comfort and convenience. It also pairs well with the available AWD-e system if you want extra traction.
• Limited: This is the most feature-rich version, with the largest infotainment screen, navigation, JBL audio, satellite radio, and Safety Connect. Buy this one if you want the most tech and premium equipment in the Prius lineup.

Toyota Safety Sense is standard on every trim, while LE adds blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, and parking sensors.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2019 Toyota Prius?

This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you have room to shop carefully rather than rush.

• Deal availability: 31.1% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 331 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices are up 3.02% year-over-year.
• Clean inventory: 61.3% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $17,990, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2019 Toyota Prius's resale value?

The current average of $19,757 sits slightly above last year's $19,178.

That upward move suggests the Prius still has healthy buyer interest, especially because it combines strong fuel economy with a reputation for practicality. For a future seller, that kind of steady demand can help support pricing, particularly if your car has a clean history and good condition.

The market also appears to reward efficient, well-kept examples rather than just the cheapest ones. If you maintain the car well and keep records, you improve your odds of holding value.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 5/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2019 Toyota Prius safe?

The 2019 Toyota Prius earns a five-star overall rating from NHTSA and a Top Safety Pick rating from the IIHS.

It earns a 7/10 safety score from our experts.

Toyota Safety Sense is standard and includes adaptive cruise control, forward-collision warning with automatic emergency braking, lane-departure warning, lane-keeping assist, and automatic high-beam headlights. LE trim adds blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, and parking sensors, while Limited trim also gets Safety Connect services.

One caveat is that the IIHS notes small overlap front passenger frontal impact protection as Acceptable instead of Good. That keeps the Prius safe overall, but it is worth knowing if you are comparing it with other top-rated alternatives.

Should I buy a 2019 Toyota Prius or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2019 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2019 if:

• 31.1% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• At 61.3% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
• Price trend: Prices are up 3.02% year-over-year.
• Owners rate it 5/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• Toyota adds a new electric all-wheel-drive option and revises the trim strategy for this year.

Consider the 2020 if:

• At $21,658, the 2020 costs more than the current year's $19,757 average.
• It broadens the Prius’ appeal with stronger versatility and more advanced safety emphasis.

The bottom line: The 2019 is the better pick if you want the lower entry price and still want the core Prius strengths of efficiency, practicality, and strong owner satisfaction. If you can spend more and want the next year’s broader appeal, the 2020 is worth a look; otherwise, the 2019 is the smarter value buy.
