CarGurus Analysis: 2019 Subaru Legacy
Summary
With 571 currently listed for sale and an average price of $15,905, 31.2% of 2019 Subaru Legacy listings on CarGurus are rated as good or great deals.
Favorably reviewed: Owners rated the 2019 Subaru Legacy 5 / 5 stars.
66.0% of 2019 Subaru Legacy listings on CarGurus are accident free.
Why it stands out
The 2019 Subaru Legacy stands out as a midsize sedan that puts standard all-wheel drive at the center of its appeal. By this generation, Subaru had also made EyeSight more widely available, and the car had grown into a more refined and technically advanced package. That combination gives the Legacy a clear identity: it is aimed at buyers who want sedan practicality with the added confidence of AWD and a strong safety focus.
For 2019, the Legacy was part of the sixth generation, and the big news was that EyeSight became standard on all models. That standard suite included adaptive cruise control, automatic emergency braking, lane-departure warning, and lane keep assist. The model also offered a 175-hp 2.5-liter engine and a 256-hp 3.6-liter engine, along with a 6.2-inch touch screen, Bluetooth streaming, USB/aux inputs, and a backup camera. Higher trims added features such as blind spot monitoring, lane departure warning, leather upholstery, and a Harman/Kardon audio system, which helped the Legacy feel well equipped for the money.
Its strengths are easy to understand: standard AWD, a comfortable ride, and a long list of safety features. The tradeoffs are just as clear, though, since the Legacy is also described as having dull styling, a cheap-feeling interior, and sluggish performance. For shoppers who value security, all-weather traction, and a sensible feature set over flash, the 2019 Subaru Legacy makes a compelling case.

Beautiful car! Drives beautifully, has all the bells and whistles that work intuitively, I just love it. I have owned many many cars over the years, including an Audi, and this is the nicest car Ive had.

I currently own a 2019 Subaru Legacy Limited. The car has seat memory, which is a must for me and my limitations. The car also has a CD player which most of the car companies are no longer putting on their vehicles.

What should I look for when buying a used 2019 Subaru Legacy?
At 64.3% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
You should run a vehicle history report before you commit, then prioritize a pre-purchase inspection so you can catch hidden body, suspension, or repair issues. Focus on overall condition, especially signs of past damage, uneven wear, or poor-quality repairs, since those can matter more than mileage alone.

What is the 2019 Subaru Legacy's resale value?
The current average of $15,859 sits slightly below last year's $16,642.
That softer pricing can help you buy in at a more favorable point, but it also means future resale gains may be limited if the market stays soft. If you plan to sell later, the best protection is to buy well, keep the car in strong condition, and avoid overpaying now. A lower entry price can help offset depreciation when it is time to move on.
Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 5/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.
Should I buy a 2019 Subaru Legacy or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2019 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2019 if:
- 30.0% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- At 64.3% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 4.71% compared with last year.
- Owners rate it 5/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
Consider the 2020 if:
- At $17,349, the 2020 costs more than the current year's $15,859 average.
- It leans harder into practicality, efficiency, and safety with updated technology.
The bottom line: If you want the better value today, the 2019 is the stronger buy because it combines a lower average price with solid deal availability. If you are willing to spend more for a newer model and a more modern-feeling package, the 2020 is the better secondary path.
