Used 2019 Mazda MX-5 Miata for Sale near California

How much does the 2019 Mazda MX-5 Miata cost?

Prices are up 2.46% year-over-year — a sign of continued demand for this model year.

There are 186 listings available, which gives you a modest amount of inventory to compare before you buy.

Is the 2019 Mazda MX-5 Miata a good car?

Yes — the 2019 Mazda MX-5 Miata earns a 5/5 user rating and a 7.3/10 expert rating. The model scores 10/10 across Performance and Cost effectiveness.

Owners consistently praise its fun driving experience, nimble handling, and cool design. Many also value its reliability and decent fuel economy, especially with the manual transmission.

The main trade-offs are limited storage space and reduced headroom, so it suits you best if you care more about driving enjoyment than everyday utility. Even so, its strong value-for-money appeal makes it a compelling choice if you want a focused sports car without overspending.

Only 26.3% of listings are priced as good or great deals, so the best examples tend to move quickly.

Is the 2019 Mazda MX-5 Miata reliable?

Owners rate it 5/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction. User feedback also points to reliability, trouble-free ownership, and a car you can count on over time.

The Miata’s 2.0-liter four-cylinder is described as smooth, refined, and eager to rev, which supports the impression of dependable day-to-day operation. Mazda also emphasizes a lightweight dual-mass clutch flywheel and recalibrated throttle response, both of which reinforce the car’s polished mechanical feel.

If you’re shopping used, the biggest long-term ownership risk is less about mechanical complexity and more about finding a well-kept example that hasn’t been worn down by hard use or neglected maintenance.

What should I look for when buying a used 2019 Mazda MX-5 Miata?

At 64% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.

You should start with a vehicle history report and then prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially if the car has been modified or driven hard. Focus on signs of accident repair, curb rash, worn interior touchpoints, and any evidence that the convertible top or roof mechanism has been neglected.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The standard convertible comes with the traditional soft top, while the RF uses a power retractable fastback roof and a more distinctive look. The base Sport trim is the entry point, and the RF is offered only in Club and Grand Touring trims.
• Powertrain: The 2.0-liter four-cylinder makes 181 hp and is described as smooth, refined, and eager to rev. Mazda also offers a 6-speed sport automatic with paddle shifters, but the manual is the more engaging choice.
• Safety package: The i-ActiveSense Package adds Smart City Brake Support, lane-departure warning with a beep or rumble choice, and blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert. A reversing camera is standard on all trims.
• Infotainment: Mazda Connect uses a 7-inch touchscreen, center-console controls, steering-wheel controls, and voice recognition. Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are not standard.
• Fuel efficiency: The car returns 26 mpg city, 35 mpg highway, and 29 mpg combined with the manual transmission; the automatic is rated at 26 mpg city, 35 mpg highway, and 30 mpg combined.

Which 2019 Mazda MX-5 Miata trim should I buy?

The 2019 Mazda MX-5 Miata is offered in 3 trim levels: Sport, Club, Grand Touring.

Here's the short version:

• Sport: This is the entry point, and it gives you the core Miata experience at the lowest price. It is the best-value choice if you want the lightest, simplest way into the car and do not need extra luxury or track-focused equipment.
• Club: This trim adds a more performance-oriented setup and is the one to consider if you want the sharper, more enthusiast-focused version of the Miata. It is the best-value trim for buyers who care most about driving feel and want more capability without jumping to the top end.
• Grand Touring: This is the most upscale choice, adding the comfort and convenience features that make the Miata easier to live with. Choose it if you want the most polished version of the car and are willing to pay more for the extras.

The i-ActiveSense Package is available on Sport trim and adds useful driver-assistance features.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2019 Mazda MX-5 Miata?

Act selectively, because this is a seller’s market and the best listings are worth moving on quickly.

• Deal availability: 26.3% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 186 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices are up 2.46% year-over-year.
• Clean inventory: 64.0% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $22,671, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2019 Mazda MX-5 Miata's resale value?

The current average of $24,617 sits slightly above last year's $24,026.

That upward move suggests the market is still willing to pay for a well-kept Miata, especially one with the right trim and condition. Because the car has strong enthusiast appeal and a reputation for being fun to drive, clean examples should remain easier to sell than neglected ones.

If you buy carefully and keep mileage, condition, and maintenance in check, you should have a solid chance of preserving value. The limited supply of good examples can also help support pricing when it is time to sell.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 5/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2019 Mazda MX-5 Miata safe?

It earns a 5/10 safety score from our experts.

Mazda equips the Miata with a reversing camera on all trims, and the available i-ActiveSense Package adds Smart City Brake Support, lane-departure warning, and blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert. That gives you useful collision-avoidance tech for a small sports car, though the package is not standard on every trim.

The main caveat is the car’s light weight, which makes avoiding a crash especially important. If safety is a top priority, you should pay close attention to whether a given car has the available driver-assistance package and verify its condition carefully.

Should I buy a 2019 Mazda MX-5 Miata or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2019 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2019 if:

• 26.3% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• At 64% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
• Price trend: Prices are up 2.46% year-over-year.
• Owners rate it 5/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• Mazda’s 2019 updates make the car feel more polished while preserving the lightweight, open-road character that defines it.

The bottom line: Choose the 2019 if you want the more polished version of this roadster and you can find a clean example at a fair price. If you are especially price-sensitive, a nearby model year may still make sense, but you should compare condition, equipment, and accident history closely before deciding.

How does the 2019 Mazda MX-5 Miata compare to the 2019 Ford Mustang?

Our experts score the 2019 Mazda MX-5 Miata 7.3/10 and the 2019 Ford Mustang 8/10. The Miata is the lighter, more focused roadster, while the Mustang brings more power and broader everyday versatility. If you care most about pure driving feel and value, the Miata has a strong case; if you want stronger straight-line performance and more listings to shop, the Mustang is the easier fit.
