What should I look for when buying a used 2019 Ford F-150?

At 73.7% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.

You should start with a vehicle history report and then prioritize a thorough pre-purchase inspection, especially if the truck has been used for towing, hauling, or off-road driving. Pay close attention to cabin wear, body condition, and any signs of heavy-duty use, since those factors can matter more than mileage alone on a full-size pickup.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The XL is a true work truck with a reversing camera, AM/FM radio, a 4.2-inch audio-system screen, and dynamic hitch assist, while the XLT adds power windows and locks plus an 8-inch Sync 3 screen. The Lariat brings a leather interior, heated and ventilated front seats, and satellite radio, and the King Ranch, Platinum, Raptor, and Limited move further into luxury or specialized capability. The best-value trim is often the XLT because it adds the bigger infotainment screen and everyday convenience features without jumping all the way to luxury pricing.
• Powertrain: The lineup includes a 3.3-liter V6, a 2.7-liter twin-turbo EcoBoost V6, a 3.5-liter EcoBoost V6, a 5.0-liter V8, and a 3.0-liter Power Stroke turbodiesel V6. The diesel stands out for its 440 pound-feet of torque and up to 11,400 pounds of towing when properly equipped, while the 2.7-liter EcoBoost is the most efficient non-diesel option.
• Safety package: Standard safety features include front- and side-impact airbags, traction control, and a reversing camera. Available driver-assistance features include blind-spot monitoring, forward-collision avoidance, adaptive cruise control, and rear cross-traffic alert. The 360-degree camera system is standard on the Limited and optional on the rest of the lineup.
• Infotainment: The base XL uses a 4.2-inch center-stack screen with Bluetooth connectivity, while XLT and higher trims get Sync 3 with an 8-inch color touchscreen. Sync 3 also supports Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, and higher trims can add a Wi-Fi hotspot and premium audio.
• Fuel efficiency: The diesel returns 22 mpg city, 30 highway, and 25 combined with rear-wheel drive, or 20 city, 25 highway, and 22 combined with 4WD. The 2.7-liter EcoBoost returns 20 mpg city, 26 highway, and 22 combined with rear-wheel drive, while the V8 with 4WD returns 16 mpg city, 22 highway, and 18 combined.

Which 2019 Ford F-150 trim should I buy?

The 2019 Ford F-150 is offered in 7 trim levels: XL, XLT, Lariat, King Ranch, Platinum, Raptor, and Limited.

Here's the short version:

• XL: This is the work-focused starting point, with the basics you need and little extra beyond the reversing camera, AM/FM radio, 4.2-inch screen, and dynamic hitch assist. It makes sense if you want the lowest-cost entry into the lineup and do not need much comfort or tech.
• XLT: This is the best-value trim for many shoppers because it adds power windows and locks, the larger 8-inch Sync 3 screen, and a USB port. It gives you the biggest jump in everyday usability without pushing into luxury-truck pricing.
• Lariat: This trim is the move if you want a more upscale cabin, since it adds leather, heated and ventilated front seats, and satellite radio. It suits you if comfort matters as much as capability.
• King Ranch: This trim leans into luxury with its distinctive Camel Back upholstery and embroidered interior details. It is a strong pick if you want a premium-feeling truck with a more distinctive cabin.
• Platinum: This trim adds even more luxury with unique wood-panel interior treatment and power-deploying running boards. It is best if you want a high-end look and feel.
• Raptor: This is the specialized off-road performance model, with a wide-body kit, underbody armor, and Fox Racing Shox. Choose it if your priorities are trail capability and performance character rather than comfort value.
• Limited: This is the top luxury choice, with 22-inch polished aluminum wheels, a dual-panel moonroof, dual exhaust, and massaging seats. It is the right fit if you want the most upscale version of the truck.

The Limited trim gets the standard 360-degree camera system, while it remains optional on the rest of the lineup.
