Why it stands out
The 2018 Toyota Sienna stands out as a minivan built around the needs of families who want maximum practicality. It is especially appealing if all-wheel drive matters to you, since that is the main reason this model is worth a closer look. More broadly, it fits the classic minivan role well: it is meant to make hauling kids and cargo easier, and that usefulness is the core of its appeal.
At the same time, the 2018 Toyota Sienna is not presented as the best choice for everyone. Its family-first mission can also be part of its image problem, and that may matter to buyers who want something less obviously minivan-like. Even so, it remains a sensible option for shoppers who value space, reliability, and the added confidence of all-wheel drive, while some may wish it offered more features for the price.

We have owned Siennas for 14 years, and they are wonderful! Super dependable, low maintenance expenses as it never has an issue (basically just change the oil and rotate the tires). By the way, were retired and still love it!

| Year-Round Low | $20,450 |
| Year-Round High | $22,451 |
| Average Price a Year Ago | $22,460 |
| Change vs. Last Year | −4.62% |
Prices have softened 4.62% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.
There are 1,285 listings available, which gives you a solid amount of inventory to compare.
Is the 2018 Toyota Sienna a good car?
Generally — 4.4/5 from owners and 7.17/10 from our experts. The model scores 8/10 across Look and feel, Performance, and Cost effectiveness.
You’re looking at a minivan that owners praise for spaciousness, reliability, and all-wheel-drive capability. The overview frames it as a family-first vehicle built to make hauling kids and cargo easier, and that lines up with the recurring positives in the reviews: practicality, confidence in bad weather, and a useful cabin. Some shoppers may still wish for more features for the money, but if your priorities are space and everyday usefulness, this year’s Sienna fits that brief well.
33.1% of listings are priced as good or great deals, so there’s still room to shop selectively.
Is the 2018 Toyota Sienna reliable?
Owners rate it 4.4/5, a solid signal of long-term satisfaction.
Review feedback repeatedly points to reliability and dependable family use, with drivers describing it as a practical vehicle they can count on. The expert notes also reinforce that theme by calling out a deserved reputation for dependability. On the ownership side, free scheduled maintenance for the first 2 years or 25,000 miles adds a helpful cost-of-ownership perk.
For used buyers, the main long-term risk is that a strong reputation for dependability does not erase the need to verify maintenance history and watch for age-related wear on a family hauler.
What should I look for when buying a used 2018 Toyota Sienna?
At 55.7% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
You should start with a vehicle-history report and then prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially if you’re considering a higher-mileage example or one with visible cosmetic wear. Focus on condition, maintenance records, and evidence of prior bodywork, since accident history can affect both value and long-term ownership confidence. If you’re comparing multiple listings, the cleanest example with the best documentation is usually worth the extra attention.
Key things to evaluate:
- Trim level: The SE trim adds a sportier look with a mesh grille, darkened headlights, rocker panel skirts, special taillights, black leather seats with white stitching, and sport-tuned steering and suspension. The base L trim gets the most basic setup, while higher trims add more convenience and luxury touches.
- Powertrain: You get a 3.5-liter V6 with 296 horsepower and 263 lb-ft of torque, paired with an 8-speed automatic. AWD is available only on LE, XLE, and Limited trims.
- Safety package: Toyota Safety Sense is standard and includes adaptive cruise control, forward-collision warning with pedestrian detection, automatic emergency braking, lane-departure warning, lane-keeping assist, and automatic high-beam headlights. Blind-spot monitoring and rear cross-traffic alert are available on SE and standard on XLE and Limited.
- Infotainment: The base L trim gets Scout connected navigation and more USB ports. All trims except L get Safety Connect and a 4G LTE Wi-Fi hotspot. A premium JBL audio system is limited to the Limited trim, and rear-seat entertainment can be added to SE, XLE, and Limited.
- Fuel efficiency: The SE returned 18.9 mpg on the test loop, versus an EPA estimate of 22 mpg in combined driving.
Which 2018 Toyota Sienna trim should I buy?
The 2018 Toyota Sienna is offered in 5 trim levels: L, LE, SE, XLE, Limited.
Here's the short version:
- L: This is the most basic way into the Sienna, but it still gets Scout connected navigation and extra USB ports. It makes sense if you want the lowest entry point and can live without the richer convenience and safety-adjacent equipment found higher up.
- LE: This is the best-value trim for many shoppers because it opens the door to AWD, which is one of the Sienna’s biggest selling points. If all-weather traction matters to you, this is the trim to target first.
- SE: This is the style-and-driving-interest trim, with sport-tuned steering and suspension, unique exterior and interior details, and available blind-spot monitoring and rear cross-traffic alert. It suits you if you want the Sienna to feel a little less purely utilitarian.
- XLE: This is the more comfort-focused choice, and it adds standard blind-spot monitoring and rear cross-traffic alert. It’s a strong pick if you want a better-equipped family hauler without going all the way to the top.
- Limited: This is the most feature-rich version, with access to the premium JBL audio system, rear-seat entertainment, and the 360-degree surround-view monitor when equipped with the Premium Package. Choose it if you want the most upscale Sienna experience.
Toyota Safety Sense is standard across the lineup, while blind-spot monitoring and rear cross-traffic alert are standard on XLE and Limited and available on SE.
Is now a good time to buy a used 2018 Toyota Sienna?
This is a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop carefully without feeling rushed.
- Deal availability: 33.1% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Inventory: There are 1,285 listings available.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 4.62% compared with last year.
- Clean inventory: 55.7% of listings are accident-free.
If you find a listing below $20,450, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
What is the 2018 Toyota Sienna's resale value?
The current average of $21,423 sits slightly below last year's $22,460.
That softer pricing suggests the market has become a bit more favorable for buyers, but it also means future sellers may need to price competitively to stand out. If you buy well now and keep the van in strong condition, you’re better positioned to limit depreciation pain later. The Sienna’s practical reputation and owner satisfaction should help support demand, but condition and history will matter a lot when it’s time to resell.
Vehicles with solid owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.4/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.
Is the 2018 Toyota Sienna safe?
The 2018 Toyota Sienna does not earn a Top Safety Pick rating from IIHS, and it gets an Acceptable result in the driver’s-side small-overlap frontal test. In federal testing, it earns four-star ratings in frontal crash and five-star ratings in all other NHTSA tests that are mentioned.
It earns a 6/10 safety score from our experts.
Toyota Safety Sense is standard and includes adaptive cruise control, forward-collision warning with pedestrian detection, automatic emergency braking, lane-departure warning, lane-keeping assist, and automatic high-beam headlights. Blind-spot monitoring and rear cross-traffic alert are available on SE and standard on XLE and Limited.
The main caveat is that the crash-test results are weaker than some rivals, so if safety is your top priority, you should pay close attention to trim, equipment, and overall vehicle condition.
Should I buy a 2018 Toyota Sienna or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2018 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2018 if:
- 33.1% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- At 55.7% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 4.62% compared with last year.
- Owners rate it 4.4/5 — a solid satisfaction signal.
- The 2018 stands out for standard Toyota Safety Sense and the availability of AWD, which are key reasons to consider this year.
The bottom line: If you want a used Sienna with strong family utility, standard driver-assistance tech, and the option of AWD, the 2018 is a sensible target. If you’re especially price-sensitive, you can shop the broader market for the cleanest, best-documented example rather than chasing a specific trim at all costs.
