Is the 2018 Lexus IS a good car?

Generally — the 4.38/5 user rating points to strong owner satisfaction, and the 2018 Lexus IS earns that support with its smooth ride, stylish design, and sporty feel. Reviewers also consistently highlight its power and the appeal of its advanced safety features, which fits a compact luxury sedan aimed at drivers who want something fun to drive without moving up to a larger luxury car. At the same time, the model’s tight rear seat and limited practicality matter if you need more everyday passenger or cargo space. With 30.8% of listings marked as good or great deals, you have some room to shop selectively.

Is the 2018 Lexus IS reliable?

Owners rate it 4.38/5, a solid signal of long-term satisfaction.

The owner feedback also points to a dependable, trouble-free ownership experience, with buyers repeatedly noting the car’s refined feel and confidence over time. That kind of long-term praise matters if you want a used luxury sedan you can count on rather than one that feels fragile or overly complicated. For used buyers, the main ownership risk is less about the model’s reputation and more about finding one that has been maintained well and hasn’t accumulated hidden wear.

What should I look for when buying a used 2018 Lexus IS?

At 49.6% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.

You should start with a vehicle history report so you can separate clean examples from cars with collision records or repeated claims. After that, prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially if the car has higher mileage or incomplete service records. Focus your condition check on the body, suspension, tires, brakes, and interior wear so you can judge whether the asking price matches the car’s actual condition.

What is the 2018 Lexus IS's resale value?

The current average of $22,521 sits slightly below last year's $23,474.

That price movement suggests the market has already adjusted downward, which can help you buy at a more favorable entry point today. For a future seller, it also means resale value may depend heavily on condition, mileage, and how well the car is documented. If you keep the car clean, maintained, and accident-free, you give yourself a better chance of standing out in a market where buyers have choices.

Vehicles with solid owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.38/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Should I buy a 2018 Lexus IS or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2018 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2018 if:

• 30.8% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• At 49.6% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 4.06% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.38/5 — a solid satisfaction signal.

The bottom line: The 2018 is a strong choice if you want a compact luxury sedan with a sporty personality, good owner satisfaction, and a market that currently favors careful shoppers. If you’re especially price-sensitive, you may want to compare nearby years and focus on the cleanest, best-documented example rather than chasing the newest badge alone.
