Why it stands out
The 2018 Jeep Cherokee stands out as a compact SUV that blends everyday usability with genuine Jeep capability. By this point in the third generation, the Cherokee had moved well beyond its original 2014 launch setup, and the 2018 model brought a more polished mix of equipment and convenience. It was also the year the Sport trim was dropped, leaving the Latitude as the base trim with HID headlamps, alloy wheels, fog lamps, and more. For buyers who wanted a small SUV with a more adventurous edge, the Cherokee still offered the kind of four-wheel-drive hardware that helped separate it from many rivals.
The 2018 model also benefited from a broader spread of useful features across the lineup. The Limited gained a power liftgate as standard, while blind-spot monitoring and rear parking sensors became standard on Limited and Trailhawk models. A new Latitude Plus trim added former option packages, including proximity key, power driver's seat, Uconnect 8.4, and more. That combination of added convenience and available off-road hardware is a big part of the Cherokee’s appeal, especially for shoppers who want a vehicle that feels more versatile than a typical crossover.
There are tradeoffs, though. The buying guide notes that early third-generation Cherokee models had major transmission issues, and it also describes this generation as having poor efficiency. Even so, the 2018 Cherokee can still make sense for buyers who value good styling, useful features, and Jeep’s four-wheel-drive capability, especially if they want a used SUV with a strong value proposition.

| Metric | Value |
|---|---|
| Current Average Price | $12,472 |
| Year-Round Low | $12,472 |
| Year-Round High | $14,249 |
| Average Price a Year Ago | $14,249 |
| Change vs. Last Year | −12.47% |
Prices have softened 12.47% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.
There are 4,231 listings available, which gives you a solid pool to compare prices and equipment.
Is the 2018 Jeep Cherokee a good car?
Yes — the 2018 Jeep Cherokee earns a 4.8/5 user rating, which points to strong owner satisfaction. Owners consistently praise its features, spaciousness, smooth ride, and 4X4 capability, while also seeing it as a good value. For you, that makes it a sensible pick if you want a compact SUV with everyday usability and a more adventurous edge. With 33.4% of listings marked as good or great deals, there are still worthwhile opportunities in the market.
Is the 2018 Jeep Cherokee reliable?
Owners rate it 4.8/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.
The owner feedback points to a vehicle many people feel they can count on for features, comfort, and a smooth driving experience. The same feedback also highlights good value and 4X4 capability, which can matter if you plan to keep the vehicle for a while and want something versatile. For used buyers, long-term ownership risk is best managed by focusing on maintenance history and overall condition before you commit.
What should I look for when buying a used 2018 Jeep Cherokee?
At 65.7% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
You should start with a vehicle history report so you can confirm accident records, title status, and ownership patterns. Then prioritize a thorough pre-purchase inspection, especially if you’re considering a higher-mileage example or one with visible cosmetic wear. Focus on overall condition, service records, and how the vehicle drives, since those details matter more when you’re shopping a used SUV with a mixed history profile.
Is now a good time to buy a used 2018 Jeep Cherokee?
This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop carefully and still find value.
- Deal availability: 33.4% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Inventory: There are 4,231 listings available.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 12.47% compared with last year.
- Clean inventory: 65.7% of listings are accident-free.
If you find a listing below $12,472, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
What is the 2018 Jeep Cherokee's resale value?
The current average of $12,472 sits slightly below last year's $14,249.
That softer pricing suggests the model has become more accessible for buyers, but it also means future sellers may need to stay realistic about asking prices. If you buy well and keep the vehicle in strong condition, you can help protect your resale position. Demand should remain supported by the Cherokee’s broad appeal, especially among shoppers who want a compact SUV with useful features and available 4X4 capability.
Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.8/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.
Should I buy a 2018 Jeep Cherokee or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2018 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2018 if:
- 33.4% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- At 65.7% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 12.47% compared with last year.
- Owners rate it 4.8/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
The bottom line: The 2018 is a strong choice if you want a well-liked Cherokee with good value and a broad mix of features, especially if you can verify condition and history carefully. If you’re especially price-sensitive, you may also want to compare nearby years to see whether a similar example offers a better deal or cleaner history.
