How much does the 2018 GMC Terrain cost?

Prices have softened 9.15% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.

There are 1,806 listings available, which gives you a solid amount of inventory to compare.

Is the 2018 GMC Terrain a good car?

Yes — the 2018 GMC Terrain earns a 4.71/5 user rating and a 6.17/10 expert rating. The model scores 8/10 across Performance and Form and function.

Owners consistently praise its comfort, spaciousness, and the variety of features available, especially in higher trim levels. Many also describe it as smooth and enjoyable to drive, with the 2.0L turbo engine standing out as the stronger choice. For you, that means the Terrain makes the most sense if you want a compact crossover with a roomy cabin and a more feature-rich feel than the base setup suggests.

29.7% of listings are priced as good or great deals, so there is some room to shop selectively.

Is the 2018 GMC Terrain reliable?

Owners rate it 4.71/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

The owner feedback points to comfort, spaciousness, and a generally enjoyable driving experience, while also describing the vehicle as one that many people can count on for everyday use. The expert drive notes also describe the Terrain as mechanically familiar and straightforward, which can be reassuring if you want a conventional used crossover rather than something complicated.

The 2.0L turbo setup is the more satisfying powertrain, and the available AWD system helps when you want extra traction. For used buyers, the main long-term ownership risk is that a well-kept example matters a lot here, because the value equation and some durability-related concerns can become more important as mileage climbs.

What should I look for when buying a used 2018 GMC Terrain?

At 63.1% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.

You should start with a vehicle-history report and confirm whether any prior damage affected the structure, airbags, or safety systems. A pre-purchase inspection should focus on brake feel, drivetrain behavior, and overall interior condition, since those are the kinds of issues that can matter most on a used compact crossover. If you are comparing multiple listings, prioritize the cleanest example over the cheapest one.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The SL is the most basic version, with the simplest equipment and the fewest amenities, while higher trims add more upscale materials, more comfort features, and a more premium feel. The base trim is the one most likely to leave you wanting more if you care about convenience and cabin polish.
• Powertrain: The Terrain offers a turbocharged 1.5-liter 4-cylinder gas engine, a turbocharged 1.6-liter diesel engine, and a turbocharged 2.0-liter gas engine. The 2.0-liter is the stronger and more satisfying choice, while the 1.5-liter is the more modest option.
• Safety package: Teen Driver technology and Rear Seat Reminder are standard. Other driver-assistance and collision-avoidance systems are mostly optional, and adaptive cruise control plus higher-speed automatic emergency braking are missing.
• Infotainment: The Terrain uses an 8-inch touchscreen with Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, OnStar services, a 4G LTE Wi-Fi hotspot, navigation, an SD card reader, and four USB data ports. Wireless device charging is included on Denali.
• Fuel efficiency: The 2.0-liter engine averaged 22.6 mpg in testing, and the 1.5-liter engine was noted at 23.3 mpg.

Which 2018 GMC Terrain trim should I buy?

The 2018 GMC Terrain is offered in 4 trim levels: SL, SLE, SLT, and Denali.

Here's the short version:

• SL: This is the entry point, but it is stripped down enough that you will likely want to move up if you care about convenience, appearance, or broader equipment. It is best viewed as the budget-first choice.
• SLE: This is the trim that makes the most sense for many shoppers because it gets you into the lineup without feeling too bare-bones. If you want the best balance of price and everyday usability, this is the one to focus on first.
• SLT: This is the better pick if you want a more upscale feel and more comfort-oriented equipment without going all the way to the top. It suits you if you want a nicer cabin and more features.
• Denali: This is the most luxurious version, with the richest trim treatment and the most premium presentation. Choose it if you want the most upscale Terrain and are willing to pay for it.

Teen Driver technology and Rear Seat Reminder are standard, while many other safety systems are optional.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2018 GMC Terrain?

This is a moderate market for selective buyers, so you can shop carefully and still find opportunities.

• Deal availability: 29.7% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 1,806 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 9.15% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 63.1% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $14,013, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2018 GMC Terrain's resale value?

The current average of $14,013 sits slightly below last year's $15,423.

That price movement suggests the Terrain has softened enough to create a better buying opportunity now than it did a year ago. For a future seller, that also means you should expect resale pressure to remain tied closely to condition, mileage, and equipment level. Well-kept examples with desirable features should hold up better than rougher, lower-spec listings.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.71/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2018 GMC Terrain safe?

The 2018 GMC Terrain earns a four-star overall rating from NHTSA, with a three-star rating for rear seat side-impact protection.

It earns a 5/10 safety score from our experts.

Teen Driver technology is standard, letting you set vehicle limits and review driving reports, and Rear Seat Reminder is also standard. Most other driver-assistance and collision-avoidance systems are optional, and adaptive cruise control plus higher-speed automatic emergency braking are missing. The rear-seat side-impact result is the key caveat you should keep in mind if you are shopping for family use.

Should I buy a 2018 GMC Terrain or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2018 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2018 if:

• 29.7% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• At 63.1% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 9.15% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.71/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• The 2018 stands out for its roomy cabin, available 2.0L turbo power, and broad feature availability, even though safety and value concerns hold it back.

The bottom line: If you want the 2018 Terrain specifically, it can make sense as a used buy when you find a clean, well-equipped example at the right price. If you are especially price-sensitive, you may want to compare it carefully with nearby model years and prioritize the best-maintained listing rather than the cheapest one.
