How much does the 2018 Ford Explorer cost?

Prices have softened 9.46% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.

There are 4,766 listings available, which gives you a solid amount of inventory to compare before you buy.

Is the 2018 Ford Explorer a good car?

Yes — the 4.74/5 user rating points to strong owner satisfaction. Drivers consistently praise the spacious interior, comfortable ride, and strong performance, and many also like the extra features such as heated seats and a sunroof. For you, that makes this a sensible pick if you want a roomy, family-oriented midsize SUV for commuting, family duty, and longer trips. With 33.3% of listings marked as good or great deals, there is still meaningful market opportunity if you shop carefully.

Is the 2018 Ford Explorer reliable?

Owners rate it 4.74/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

The user feedback points to a vehicle that many owners find dependable in day-to-day use, with praise centered on comfort, space, and strong performance. That said, the broader model-year context suggests you should still pay close attention to maintenance history and condition, especially if you plan to keep the SUV for the long haul. For used buyers, the main ownership risk is that a neglected example can become more expensive to live with over time.

What should I look for when buying a used 2018 Ford Explorer?

At 67% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.

You should run a vehicle history report before you commit, then prioritize a pre-purchase inspection so you can catch hidden body, suspension, or electrical issues. Focus on overall condition, service records, and signs of inconsistent repairs, since those details matter more when a sizable portion of the market has accident history. If a listing looks especially clean, verify that its condition matches the paperwork and the inspection results.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2018 Ford Explorer?

This is a moderate market for selective buyers, so you can shop with some leverage if you know what to look for.

• Deal availability: 33.3% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 4,766 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 9.46% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 67.0% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $15,456, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2018 Ford Explorer's resale value?

The current average of $15,457 sits slightly below last year's $17,073.

That price movement suggests the market has cooled, which can help you buy more affordably now but may also limit upside if you plan to resell soon. If you are thinking about future trade-in value, a lower entry price can soften depreciation pressure, but you should still expect resale to depend heavily on condition, mileage, and maintenance history. Well-kept examples should hold up better than neglected ones because buyers in this segment tend to reward clean, well-documented SUVs.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.74/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Should I buy a 2018 Ford Explorer or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2018 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2018 if:

• 33.3% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• At 67% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 9.46% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.74/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.

The bottom line: If you want a roomy, family-friendly midsize SUV and you find a clean 2018 at a strong price, this model year is a reasonable primary target. If you are especially price-sensitive, you may want to compare nearby years and focus on the cleanest, best-documented example rather than chasing the lowest sticker alone.
