Why it stands out
The 2018 Dodge Durango stands out as a three-row crossover that leans hard into performance while still adding useful everyday tech. A new SRT trim gives it a more aggressive edge, and the model’s 475 hp figure underscores that athletic focus. At the same time, Dodge brought Android Auto and Apple CarPlay to the Durango, making this a more modern and connected choice than before.
It also gained a standard reversing camera and a new 7-inch touchscreen, both of which improve day-to-day usability. That combination of muscle, family-friendly seating, and updated infotainment makes the 2018 Durango appealing to buyers who want space and style without giving up a performance-oriented character.

I LOVE everything about this suv. I needed something with 3 rows because kids, but I didn’t want to settle for a “mom” van. The dvd entertainment is amazing, especially for the kids. I can drive peacefully and even have actual conversations with my husband instead of getting interrupted by my kids 5 times in a minute, because they’re busy watching movies. The heated seats and steering wheel is another plus. It’s drives amazing. I am seriously in love with my Dodge Durango r/t. I wouldn’t change a thing about it

Is the 2018 Dodge Durango reliable?
Owners rate it 4.67/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.
The owner feedback points to a dependable, trouble-free ownership experience for many shoppers, especially those who value family use and comfort over flash. It also highlights the Durango as a vehicle people can count on for space, comfort, and regular family duty.
The expert notes reinforce that sense of durability by emphasizing the Durango’s solid everyday usability and its ability to handle towing and touring without losing its composure. The cost-effectiveness commentary also suggests that the V8 versions are especially compelling if you want long-term capability.
For used buyers, the main ownership risk is paying for a more powerful or better-equipped version than you truly need, since higher-spec Durangos can bring higher running costs.
What should I look for when buying a used 2018 Dodge Durango?
At 61.8% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
You should start with a vehicle history report and then prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially if you’re considering a higher-mileage example or one with optional equipment. Focus on condition, maintenance records, and whether the features you want were actually included on the trim you’re shopping.
Key things to evaluate:
- Trim level: Base versions start with a 7-inch touchscreen, reversing camera, Android Auto, Apple CarPlay, RWD, 7-passenger seating, keyless ignition and entry, 3-zone auto climate control, a load-leveling rear suspension, and heated mirrors. Higher trims add features like power seats, roof rails, leather upholstery, heated seats, a power liftgate, upgraded audio, and more luxury equipment.
- Powertrain: The lineup includes a 293-hp V6, a 5.7-liter V8 with 360 hp, and a 6.4-liter V8 with 475 hp. The V6 is efficient and capable, the R/T V8 adds stronger towing and more muscle, and the SRT is the most extreme choice.
- Safety package: The Technology package adds adaptive cruise with auto braking and brake assist, blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-path alert, full-speed forward-collision warning, and lane-departure warning. Some of these advanced systems are not standard on higher trims.
- Infotainment: You get a standard 7-inch touchscreen, wireless smartphone integration through Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, and a responsive Uconnect interface. An 8.4-inch touchscreen appears on higher trims.
- Fuel efficiency: The V6 is rated at 19 mpg city and 26 highway, while the 5.7-liter V8 returns 14 mpg city and 22 highway. The 6.4-liter V8 is rated at 13 mpg city and 19 highway.
Which 2018 Dodge Durango trim should I buy?
The 2018 Dodge Durango is offered in 6 trim levels: SXT, SXT Plus, GT, Citadel, R/T, SRT.
Here's the short version:
- SXT: This is the starting point, and it gives you the core Durango formula with 7-passenger seating, the 293-hp V6, 6,200-pound towing capacity, Android Auto, Apple CarPlay, a reversing camera, and the 7-inch touchscreen. It makes sense if you want the lowest entry price and the strongest value for basic family use.
- SXT Plus: This trim adds an 8-way power driver’s seat with 4-way lumbar, roof rails, and a rear park-assist system. It’s the better pick if you want a more comfortable daily driver without jumping too far up the price ladder.
- GT: This trim brings a power liftgate, remote start, leather upholstery, a 115-volt outlet, 20-inch alloys, heated front and second-row seats, a heated steering wheel, driver memory settings, and rear parking sensors. It’s the best-value upgrade if you want a more polished family SUV.
- Citadel: This is the luxury-leaning choice, with upgraded leather, a sunroof, front parking sensors, a power passenger seat with ventilation, a power steering column, an upgraded 8.4-inch infotainment screen, and a 9-speaker stereo with HD Radio and a subwoofer. Choose it if comfort and cabin equipment matter most.
- R/T: This is the performance sweet spot, pairing the 5.7-liter V8 with a sport suspension, upgraded steering, LED fog lights, best-in-class 7,400-pound towing, and a more aggressive look. It’s the right trim if you want the Durango’s muscle without going all the way to the SRT.
- SRT: This is the top performance model, with the 6.4-liter V8, adaptive suspension, sport steering tune, electronic limited-slip differential, SRT Performance Pages, and a free driver’s session at the SRT Track Experience. Buy this only if you want the most extreme Durango experience.
The Technology package is worth noting because it adds important safety tech, but it is not standard across the lineup.
Is now a good time to buy a used 2018 Dodge Durango?
This is a moderate market for selective buyers, with enough inventory and pricing softness to make shopping worthwhile if you’re patient.
- Deal availability: 30.3% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Inventory: There are 1,713 listings available.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 9.76% compared with last year.
- Clean inventory: 61.8% of listings are accident-free.
If you find a listing below $17,836, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
What is the 2018 Dodge Durango's resale value?
The current average of $17,930 sits slightly below last year's $19,869.
That decline suggests the market has become more favorable for buyers, but it also means future sellers may need to price competitively to move a used Durango quickly. If you buy well now, you may have less downside risk than someone who purchased when prices were higher.
The Durango’s strong owner satisfaction helps support demand, especially among shoppers who want a three-row SUV with real towing ability and a performance edge. Well-kept examples with desirable equipment should hold attention better than stripped or heavily worn ones.
Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.67/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.
Is the 2018 Dodge Durango safe?
The 2018 Dodge Durango earns four-star ratings from NHTSA overall, with five-star ratings in side impacts, and independent evaluations gave it top ratings in all tests.
It earns an 8/10 safety score from our experts.
Standard safety equipment includes four-wheel antilock discs, stability control, traction control, trailer sway control, and a full suite of airbags. The available Technology package adds adaptive cruise with auto braking and brake assist, blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-path alert, full-speed forward-collision warning, and lane-departure warning.
One caveat is that some advanced driver-assistance features are not standard, even on higher trims, so you may need to shop carefully if safety tech is a priority. Braking distance is competitive, but not class-leading.
Should I buy a 2018 Dodge Durango or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2018 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2018 if:
- 30.3% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- At 61.8% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 9.76% compared with last year.
- Owners rate it 4.67/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
- The 2018 adds Android Auto, Apple CarPlay, a standard reversing camera, and a new 7-inch touchscreen.
Consider the 2017 if:
- At $14,889, the 2017 costs less than the current year's $17,930 average.
- It offers family-friendly space and strong utility.
The bottom line: If you want the better-equipped and more modern Durango, the 2018 is the stronger pick thanks to its updated tech and softer pricing. If your priority is saving money above all else, the 2017 is the more budget-friendly path, especially if you can find one in good condition.
