Is the 2018 Dodge Durango a good car?

Yes — you’re looking at a 4.67/5 user-rated SUV with an expert score of 7.83/10. The standout strength is Performance at 9/10.

Owners consistently praise the spacious interior, powerful performance, and family-friendly features. The smooth ride and effective electronic interface also come through as recurring positives, along with the Durango’s usefulness for family trips.

That lines up well with the Durango’s role as a three-row SUV that still leans into an athletic character, especially if you want space and comfort without giving up a more engaging drive. With 33.3% of listings marked as good or great deals, the market gives you some room to shop carefully.

Is the 2018 Dodge Durango reliable?

Owners rate it 4.67/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

The owner feedback points to a dependable-feeling SUV that many shoppers can count on for family use, comfort, and everyday practicality. The review summary also emphasizes the Durango’s spaciousness, smooth ride, and family-trip value, which are all traits that usually matter in long-term ownership.

The expert notes reinforce that impression by highlighting the Durango’s strong powertrains and broad usefulness across towing, touring, and daily driving. If you’re buying used, the main ownership risk is that higher-spec versions can be expensive to maintain and repair, so condition and service history matter a lot.

What should I look for when buying a used 2018 Dodge Durango?

At 63.1% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.

You should start with a vehicle history report and then prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially if you’re considering a higher-trim or option-heavy example. Focus on body condition, signs of prior repair, and whether the features you want actually work as intended.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The base SXT gives you a 7-inch touchscreen, reversing camera, Android Auto, Apple CarPlay, RWD, 7-passenger seating, and a 293-hp V6, while the SXT Plus adds an 8-way power driver’s seat with lumbar, roof rails, and rear park assist. The GT adds power liftgate, remote start, leather upholstery, heated front and second-row seats, heated steering wheel, driver memory settings, rear parking sensors, and 20-inch alloys, making it the best-value step up for many shoppers.
• Powertrain: You can choose a 293-hp V6, a 5.7-liter V8 with 360 hp and 390 lb-ft, or the 6.4-liter V8 with 475 hp and 470 lb-ft. The V6 is efficient for the class, the R/T V8 adds stronger towing and more relaxed power, and the SRT is the performance choice with adaptive suspension and sport steering tune.
• Safety package: The Technology package adds adaptive cruise with auto braking and brake assist, blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-path alert, full-speed forward-collision warning, and lane-departure warning. The Safety/Security & Convenience Group adds auto high beams with auto leveling, blind-spot monitor with cross-path alert, low-beam HIDs, rain-sensing wipers, and a power steering column.
• Infotainment: You get a standard 7-inch touchscreen, Android Auto, Apple CarPlay, and a reversing camera. Higher trims can add an 8.4-inch touchscreen, and the system is described as attractive and responsive.
• Fuel efficiency: The V6 is rated at 19 mpg city and 26 highway, while the 5.7-liter V8 returns 14 mpg city and 22 highway. The 6.4-liter V8 is estimated at 13 mpg city and 19 highway.

Which 2018 Dodge Durango trim should I buy?

The 2018 Dodge Durango is offered in 6 trim levels: SXT, SXT Plus, GT, Citadel, R/T, SRT.

Here’s the short version:

• SXT: This is the starting point if you want the Durango’s core strengths at the lowest entry price. You get the V6, 7-passenger seating, standard tech, and strong towing, so it makes sense if you care more about capability than luxury.
• SXT Plus: This is the value upgrade if you want a more comfortable daily driver without jumping too far up the price ladder. The power driver’s seat, roof rails, and rear park assist make it feel more complete.
• GT: This is the best-value trim for many shoppers because it adds the features most people will notice every day: leather, heated seats, heated steering wheel, remote start, power liftgate, and rear parking sensors.
• Citadel: Choose this if you want a more upscale cabin and more premium equipment, including the 8.4-inch touchscreen, upgraded leather, ventilated front seats, sunroof, and a stronger luxury feel.
• R/T: This is the right pick if you want V8 power and a sportier personality. It adds the 5.7-liter V8, sport suspension, upgraded steering, and best-in-class towing, but the ride can feel firmer.
• SRT: This is the performance flagship, with the 6.4-liter V8, adaptive suspension, sport steering tune, and the most aggressive character in the lineup.

The safety package is not standard on every trim, so if driver-assistance features matter to you, look closely at how each listing is equipped.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2018 Dodge Durango?

This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop with some leverage if you’re patient.

• Deal availability: 33.3% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 1,722 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 10.86% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 63.1% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $17,402, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2018 Dodge Durango's resale value?

The current average of $17,456 sits slightly below last year's $19,583.

That decline suggests the market has already adjusted downward, which can help you as a buyer today but may limit upside if you plan to sell soon. If you buy at the right price and keep the vehicle in strong condition, you’ll be better positioned to preserve value.

The Durango’s broad appeal helps support resale because shoppers still want a three-row SUV with strong towing and available V8 power. Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.67/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2018 Dodge Durango safe?

The 2018 Dodge Durango earns a four-star overall rating from NHTSA, with five-star side-impact ratings, and independent evaluations gave it top ratings in all tests.

It earns an 8/10 safety score from our experts.

The Durango includes stability control, traction control, trailer sway control, and a full suite of airbags. Available driver assistance on equipped trims includes adaptive cruise with auto braking and brake assist, blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-path alert, full-speed forward-collision warning, and lane-departure warning.

One caveat is that some of the more advanced safety systems are not standard across the lineup, so you need to verify equipment carefully on any used listing. The expert notes also mention that braking distance could be better, even though it remains competitive.

Should I buy a 2018 Dodge Durango or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2018 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2018 if:

• 33.3% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• At 63.1% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 10.86% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.67/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• This year adds a new SRT trim plus standard Android Auto, Apple CarPlay, and a standard reversing camera.

Consider the 2017 if:

• At $14,752, the 2017 costs less than the current year's $17,456 average.
• It blends family usefulness with real towing strength.

The 2018 is the better pick if you want the newer tech and the expanded performance lineup. The 2017 makes more sense if your priority is saving money up front and you’re comfortable giving up some of the 2018’s added convenience and performance appeal.
