Is the 2018 Dodge Durango a good car?

Yes — the 2018 Dodge Durango earns a 4.67/5 user rating and a 7.83/10 expert rating. The standout strength is Performance at 9/10.

Is the 2018 Dodge Durango reliable?

The owner feedback points to a dependable-feeling SUV with a spacious cabin, smooth ride, and family-friendly usability that many buyers can count on. The expert notes also emphasize strong towing and a well-rounded powertrain lineup, which supports the case for durable everyday use.

The Durango’s long-term ownership risk is more about trim complexity and higher purchase costs than about a lack of appeal, so condition and maintenance history matter a lot on the used market.

What should I look for when buying a used 2018 Dodge Durango?

At 62.4% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.

You should start with a vehicle history report and then prioritize a thorough pre-purchase inspection, especially if you’re considering a higher-mileage example or one with multiple owners. Focus on signs of prior bodywork, uneven panel gaps, tire wear, and any evidence that the vehicle was used hard or poorly maintained.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: Base versions start with a 7-inch touchscreen, reversing camera, Android Auto, Apple CarPlay, RWD, 7-passenger seating, keyless ignition and entry, 3-zone automatic climate control, a load-leveling rear suspension, and heated mirrors. Higher trims add features like an 8-way power driver’s seat with lumbar support, roof rails, rear park assist, power liftgate, remote start, leather upholstery, heated front and second-row seats, heated steering wheel, driver memory settings, rear parking sensors, upgraded leather, ventilated front seats, sunroof, front parking sensors, power steering column, upgraded infotainment, and a 9-speaker stereo.
• Powertrain: The lineup includes a 293-hp V6, a 360-hp V8, and a 475-hp V8. The V6 is efficient and capable, the 5.7-liter V8 adds stronger towing and better muscle, and the SRT’s 6.4-liter V8 is the most powerful option with the highest towing capacity.
• Safety package: Available driver assistance includes adaptive cruise with auto braking and brake assist, blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-path alert, full-speed forward-collision warning, and lane-departure warning. Some of these advanced systems are not standard on higher trims and can raise the purchase price.
• Infotainment: The Durango gets a standard 7-inch touchscreen, standard Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, and a reversing camera. An 8.4-inch touchscreen is available on higher trims, and the system is described as responsive and attractive.
• Fuel efficiency: The V6 is rated at 19 mpg city and 26 highway, the 5.7-liter V8 returns 14 mpg city and 22 highway, and the 6.4-liter V8 is estimated at 13 mpg city and 19 highway.

Which 2018 Dodge Durango trim should I buy?

The 2018 Dodge Durango is offered in 6 trim levels: SXT, SXT Plus, GT, Citadel, R/T, SRT.

Here's the short version:

• SXT: This is the value starting point if you want the Durango’s core strengths without stretching the budget. You get the V6, 7-passenger seating, strong towing, and the new standard tech features, so it covers the basics well.
• SXT Plus: This is the best-value upgrade if you want a more comfortable daily driver. The added power driver’s seat, lumbar support, roof rails, and rear park-assist system make it feel more complete without jumping too far up the price ladder.
• GT: This trim adds a more upscale feel with a power liftgate, remote start, leather upholstery, heated front and second-row seats, a heated steering wheel, driver memory settings, and rear parking sensors. It’s a strong choice if you want family comfort and convenience.
• Citadel: This is the luxury-leaning pick, with upgraded leather, ventilated front seats, sunroof, front parking sensors, power steering column, upgraded infotainment, and a premium audio setup. Choose it if comfort and features matter more than value.
• R/T: This is the right choice if you want V8 power and a sportier personality. It adds the 5.7-liter V8, sport suspension, upgraded steering, LED fog lights, and best-in-class towing, but it can get expensive once options are added.
• SRT: This is the performance flagship, with the 6.4-liter V8, adaptive suspension, sport steering tune, electronic limited-slip differential, and SRT Performance Pages. It’s the one to buy if you want the most athletic Durango and don’t mind the higher running costs.

Safety-package features are not always standard on higher trims, so check each listing carefully before you buy.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2018 Dodge Durango?

The market looks selective rather than overheated, which gives you room to shop carefully and compare listings.

• Deal availability: 33.1% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 1,699 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 11.79% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 62.4% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $17,379, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2018 Dodge Durango's resale value?

The current average of $17,379 sits slightly below last year's $19,702.

That decline suggests the market has become more buyer-friendly, which can work against sellers who need top-dollar pricing. If you plan to sell later, you may need to lean on condition, mileage, and equipment to stand out.

Well-kept examples with desirable trims and strong service history should hold up better than average. Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.67/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2018 Dodge Durango safe?

The 2018 Dodge Durango earns four-star ratings overall from NHTSA, with five-star ratings in side impacts, and independent evaluations gave it top ratings in all tests.

It earns an 8/10 safety score from our experts.

The Durango includes four-wheel antilock discs, stability control, traction control, trailer sway control, and a full airbag suite with front side, driver knee, and full-length curtain airbags. Available driver assistance can include adaptive cruise with auto braking and brake assist, blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-path alert, full-speed forward-collision warning, and lane-departure warning.

A key caveat is that some advanced safety systems are bundled into packages rather than included across the board, so you should verify exactly what a used listing has before you buy.

Should I buy a 2018 Dodge Durango or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2018 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2018 if:

• 33.1% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• At 62.4% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 11.79% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.67/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• It adds standard Android Auto, Apple CarPlay, a 7-inch touchscreen, and a reversing camera.

Consider the 2017 if:

• At $14,802, the 2017 costs less than the current year's $17,379 average.
• It blends family usefulness with real towing strength.

The bottom line: If you want the better-equipped and more modern version, the 2018 is the stronger pick. If your priority is saving money up front, the 2017 is the better value path, especially if you can find one in clean condition with the features you need.
