What should I look for when buying a used 2018 Dodge Charger?

At 47.4% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.

You should run a vehicle history report before you buy and prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially if the car has been modified or has higher mileage. Pay close attention to body condition, interior wear, and whether the car’s equipment matches the trim level you’re considering.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The SXT starts with 17-inch aluminum wheels, dual stainless-steel exhaust, push-button start, a 6-way power driver’s seat, dual USB ports, and a leather-wrapped steering wheel. The SXT Plus adds fog lamps, heated power mirrors, all-season performance tires, 18-inch wheels, dual-zone automatic climate control, an auto-dimming rearview mirror, an 8-way power driver’s seat, heated front seats, and six premium speakers. The GT adds all-wheel drive, a Gloss Black front fascia, 19-inch wheels, and a flat-bottom performance steering wheel with paddle shifters. The GT Plus adds heated and cooled seats and a heated steering wheel. The R/T brings V8 power, a sport suspension, 20-inch wheels, and active exhaust. The Scat Pack adds the 6.4-liter V8, cloth performance seats, and Brembo brakes. The Daytona adds a Mopar cold air intake, three-mode stability control, performance suspension, heavy-duty disc brakes, and unique visual touches. The SRT 392 adds red Brembo calipers, high-performance active damping suspension, and unique SRT interior touches. The Hellcat sits at the top with the most potent engine in the lineup.
• Powertrain: The SXT, SXT Plus, GT, and GT Plus use a 3.6-liter V6 with 292 horsepower and 260 pound-feet of torque, while GT trims and SXT trims with the Super Track Pak rise to 300 horsepower and 264 pound-feet. The R/T and Daytona use a 5.7-liter V8 with 370 horsepower and 395 pound-feet. The R/T Scat Pack, Daytona 392, and SRT 392 use a 6.4-liter V8 with 485 hp and 475 lb-ft. The Hellcat uses a supercharged 6.2-liter V8 with 707 hp and 650 lb-ft. AWD adds traction and helps in winter driving.
• Safety package: Standard equipment includes a reversing camera, rear parking sensors, front- and side-impact airbags, active head restraints, the LATCH child-seat anchoring system, and a tire pressure monitoring system. Blind-spot warning with rear cross-path detection is available, and the Technology Group adds adaptive cruise control, forward-collision warning, lane-departure warning, and automatic high beams.
• Infotainment: The SXT gets a 7-inch Uconnect touchscreen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Every other trim gets the larger 8.4-inch Uconnect touchscreen. The system is described as easy to use, and the GT also gets Dodge Performance Pages.
• Fuel efficiency: The most efficient version is the RWD V6, which returns 19 mpg city, 30 highway, and 23 combined. The AWD V6 returns 18 mpg city, 27 highway, and 21 combined. The R/T gets 16 mpg city, 25 highway, and 19 combined. The Hellcat gets 13 mpg city, 22 highway, and 16 combined.

Which 2018 Dodge Charger trim should I buy?

The 2018 Dodge Charger is offered in 9 trim levels: SXT, SXT Plus, GT, GT Plus, R/T, R/T Scat Pack, Daytona, Daytona 392, SRT 392, and Hellcat.

Here's the short version:

• SXT: This is the entry point, and it gives you the Charger’s core personality at the lowest price. You get the 7-inch Uconnect system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, plus the standard comfort and convenience basics. It makes the most sense if you want the Charger look and feel without paying for extra performance or luxury features.
• SXT Plus: This is the best-value trim for many shoppers because it adds a lot of everyday comfort for a relatively modest step up. Heated front seats, dual-zone climate control, upgraded wheels, and the better audio setup make it easier to live with.
• GT: Choose this if you want all-wheel drive and a more distinctive look without jumping to V8 power. The GT’s AWD, 19-inch wheels, and paddle shifters make it the most practical choice for buyers who want year-round traction.
• GT Plus: This is the comfort-focused AWD choice. It builds on the GT with heated and cooled seats and a heated steering wheel, so it suits you if you want the all-weather setup with more premium features.
• R/T: This is the first trim that gives you standard V8 power, so it’s the right move if performance matters more than fuel economy. The sport suspension and active exhaust make it feel more serious than the V6 trims.
• R/T Scat Pack: This is the enthusiast pick if you want the strongest value in the high-performance range. The 6.4-liter V8, Brembo brakes, and performance seats make it the most compelling step up for drivers who want serious muscle.
• Daytona: This trim is for you if you want a more performance-oriented R/T with extra hardware and a more aggressive look. The cold air intake, upgraded suspension, and unique styling set it apart.
• Daytona 392: This is the Daytona with the bigger 6.4-liter V8, so it suits buyers who want the Daytona character with more power.
• SRT 392: This is the more focused performance trim, with active damping, Brembo hardware, and unique SRT touches. It makes sense if you want a sharper, more track-minded Charger.
• Hellcat: This is the extreme choice, with the most potent engine in the lineup. It is for buyers who want maximum performance above all else.

The safety package note to keep in mind is that blind-spot warning and the Technology Group are optional rather than standard.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2018 Dodge Charger?

This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop with some leverage if you’re patient.

• Deal availability: 26.8% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 1,565 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 4.75% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 47.4% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $18,508, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2018 Dodge Charger's resale value?

The current average of $18,755 sits slightly below last year's $19,690.

That softer pricing suggests the model has already absorbed some depreciation, which can help future sellers if demand stays steady. The Charger’s distinctive styling, strong performance reputation, and broad trim range should continue to support interest from shoppers who want a muscle sedan with everyday usability.

Because the market still shows meaningful inventory and a decent share of deal-priced listings, resale value will likely depend heavily on trim, condition, and equipment. Well-kept examples with desirable features should hold buyer attention better than rough or heavily worn ones.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.7/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2018 Dodge Charger safe?

The 2018 Dodge Charger earns a 6/10 safety score from our experts.

Standard safety equipment includes a reversing camera, rear parking sensors, front- and side-impact airbags, active head restraints, the LATCH child-seat anchoring system, and a tire pressure monitoring system. You can also get blind-spot warning with rear cross-path detection, and the Technology Group adds adaptive cruise control, forward-collision warning, lane-departure warning, and automatic high beams.

A key caveat is that several advanced driver-assistance features are optional rather than standard, so you should verify exactly which safety equipment is on the specific car you’re considering.

Should I buy a 2018 Dodge Charger or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2018 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2018 if:

• 26.8% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• At 47.4% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 4.75% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.7/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• The 2018 keeps the Charger’s modern infotainment and safety tech while preserving its rear-wheel-drive muscle-sedan character.

Consider the 2017 if:

• At $17,748, the 2017 costs less than the current year's $18,755 average.
• It appeals to buyers who want the Charger’s attention-grabbing personality and strong performance at a lower entry price.

The bottom line: If you want the best mix of current-market value, modern equipment, and broad trim choice, the 2018 is the better default pick. If your priority is saving money up front and you’re comfortable giving up some of the 2018’s market freshness, the 2017 is the more budget-friendly path.
