What should I look for when buying a used 2017 Toyota Camry?

At 47.1% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.

You should start with a vehicle history report and then focus your inspection on body condition, repair quality, and signs of uneven wear. Because this model year is popular, it makes sense to compare several listings and prioritize the ones with clean records and consistent maintenance.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The LE comes with halogen headlights, a reversing camera, remote keyless entry, a 6.1-inch touchscreen, and power locks and windows, while the SE adds a sportier look, 17-inch alloy wheels, a sport-tuned suspension, and a rear spoiler. The XSE adds 18-inch wheels, dual-zone climate control, and Ultrasuede seating, and the higher XSE setup also brings LED headlights, a smart key system, push-button start, heated front seats, and a leather-trimmed steering wheel.
• Powertrain: The standard 2.5-liter inline 4-cylinder makes 178 horsepower and 170 pound-feet of torque, and XSE and XLE trims can also be had with an available 3.5-liter V6 that makes 268 horsepower and 248 pound-feet of torque. Power goes through a 6-speed automatic with manual tap-shift mode, and the SE and XSE add steering-wheel-mounted paddle shifters.
• Safety package: Standard equipment includes vehicle stability control, traction control, 10 airbags, the LATCH child-seat anchoring system, a reversing camera, and a tire pressure monitoring system. Available driver-assistance features include dynamic radar cruise control, lane-departure warning, automatic high beams, and blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert.
• Infotainment: The LE and SE use a 6.1-inch touchscreen with USB connectivity, Bluetooth hands-free calling with Siri EyesFree, and a standard 4-speaker stereo. XSE and XLE trims upgrade to a 7-inch touchscreen with navigation app support, voice recognition, SiriusXM All Access, real-time traffic and weather updates, and a 10-speaker JBL premium audio system.
• Fuel efficiency: The Camry is listed at 24 mpg city, 33 highway, and 27 combined.

Which 2017 Toyota Camry trim should I buy?

The 2017 Toyota Camry is offered in 4 trim levels: LE, SE, XSE, and XLE.

Here's the short version:

• LE: This is the value play if you want the lowest entry point and the core Camry experience, including a reversing camera, touchscreen, Bluetooth, and the standard safety equipment.
• SE: Choose this if you want a sportier look and firmer chassis tuning, plus paddle shifters and the same practical tech foundation as the LE.
• XSE: This is the best-value upgrade if you want the richer cabin, larger touchscreen, JBL audio, and available V6 power without going all the way to the top.
• XLE: Pick this if comfort and convenience matter most, especially if you want the more upscale equipment and the available V6.

The safety package adds useful driver-assistance features, but forward-collision avoidance is not included.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2017 Toyota Camry?

This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop patiently without expecting every listing to be a bargain.

• Deal availability: 29.6% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 2,453 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices are up 1.01% year-over-year.
• Clean inventory: 47.1% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $14,166, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2017 Toyota Camry's resale value?

The current average of $14,981 sits slightly above last year's $14,831.

That modest increase suggests the Camry has held value reasonably well for a used sedan in this segment. For a future seller, that kind of steady pricing can be a positive sign because it points to ongoing shopper interest rather than a sharp drop in demand.

The market also shows enough inventory to keep pricing competitive, so condition and history will matter a lot when you eventually resell. A clean, well-kept example should be easier to move than one with accident history or visible wear.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.8/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2017 Toyota Camry safe?

The 2017 Toyota Camry earns an overall crash score of Good from the IIHS and is an IIHS Top Safety Pick+; it earns a five-star overall crash-test rating from NHTSA.

It earns a 9/10 safety score from our experts.

Standard safety equipment includes vehicle stability control, traction control, 10 airbags, the LATCH child-seat anchoring system, a reversing camera, and a tire pressure monitoring system. Available driver-assistance features include dynamic radar cruise control, lane-departure warning, automatic high beams, and blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert.

One important caveat is that it does not have forward-collision avoidance and prevention, so you should not assume every modern active-safety feature is included.

Should I buy a 2017 Toyota Camry or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2017 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2017 if:

• 29.6% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• At 47.1% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
• Price trend: Prices are up 1.01% year-over-year.
• Owners rate it 4.8/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• The 2017 is the last year of the generation before the redesigned 2018 arrives.

Consider the 2016 if:

• At $13,733, the 2016 costs less than the current year's $14,981 average.
• It emphasizes a calm, practical, well-rounded daily-driving experience.

Consider the 2018 if:

• At $17,666, the 2018 costs more than the current year's $14,981 average.
• It adds bolder styling and a more expressive take on the Camry formula.

The bottom line: If you want the strongest balance of price, satisfaction, and proven everyday usability, the 2017 is the smart default. If your budget is tighter, the 2016 can save you money, while the 2018 makes sense if you want the newer design and are willing to pay more.
