How much does the 2017 Subaru Impreza cost?

Is the 2017 Subaru Impreza a good car?

Generally — the 2017 Subaru Impreza earns a 4.33/5 user rating and an 8/10 expert rating, which points to a strong overall used-car case. It is described as practical, affordable, and safe, with standard all-wheel drive and affordable tech making it especially appealing if you want a sedan or hatchback instead of a crossover.

The expert score backs that up with especially strong marks for form and function, cost effectiveness, and safety. The model scores 9/10 across Form and function, Cost effectiveness, and Safety.

There are 31.1% good or great deals in the market, so you still have room to shop selectively.

Is the 2017 Subaru Impreza reliable?

Owners rate it 4.33/5, a solid signal of long-term satisfaction.

The 2017 Impreza is framed as a practical, affordable, and safe choice, and the expert notes reinforce that it is built for everyday use rather than flash. Its 2-liter boxer engine is described as compact and low-vibration, and the CVT update for 2017 is presented as an improvement because the old delay between Reverse and Drive seems to have been resolved.

You should still expect some ownership tradeoffs: the car is not especially refined, and the underpowered engine can feel strained on highway on-ramps and hills. For used buyers, that means long-term satisfaction is likely strongest if you value durability, traction, and practicality more than quick acceleration or premium polish.

What should I look for when buying a used 2017 Subaru Impreza?

At 59% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.

You should start with a vehicle history report and then prioritize a careful inspection of body condition, repair quality, and any signs of prior collision work. Because this model is valued for practicality and safety, condition matters a lot: a clean, well-kept example is more likely to deliver the ownership experience you want.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: In 2.0i trim, the Impreza starts with a 5-speed stick shift, cloth seats, a 4-speaker sound system, and manual climate control, while Premium adds an automatic transmission and more options. Sport adds torque vectoring and an optional stick shift, and Limited can be ordered with leather, a moonroof, and upgraded infotainment. The base trim is the most stripped-down, so you should compare it carefully against the better-equipped versions.
• Powertrain: Every trim uses Subaru’s 2-liter, 152-hp, 4-cylinder boxer engine, paired with a continuously variable transmission. The engine is described as compact and low-vibration, but also underpowered, and the CVT helps fuel economy reach as high as 38 mpg highway and 28 city.
• Safety package: EyeSight is the named driver-assistance suite. It uses two windshield-mounted cameras and can alert you if you stray from your lane, automatically brake in an emergency, and adjust cruise control to follow traffic. On Premium, it adds $1,395 and is bundled with blind-spot detection and steering-responsive fog lights.
• Infotainment: Every 2017 Impreza comes standard with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, and the touchscreen gives you access to music, podcasts, and navigation. The system is a standout value point because even the base version gets it.
• Fuel efficiency: The Impreza is described as getting as good as 38 mpg highway and 28 city.

Which 2017 Subaru Impreza trim should I buy?

The 2017 Subaru Impreza is offered in 4 trim levels: 2.0i, Premium, Sport, Limited.

Here's the short version:

• 2.0i: This is the most basic version, with a 5-speed stick shift, cloth seats, a 4-speaker sound system, and manual climate control. It makes sense if you want the lowest entry price and are comfortable with a very simple cabin.
• Premium: This trim adds an automatic transmission and can be paired with EyeSight, which also brings blind-spot detection and steering-responsive fog lights. It looks like the best-value choice if you want a more complete daily driver without moving all the way up the range.
• Sport: This version adds torque vectoring and an optional stick shift, so it is the one to consider if you want the most engaging setup in the lineup.
• Limited: This is the most upscale version, with available leather, a moonroof, and upgraded infotainment. It suits you best if you want the most comfort and convenience features.

EyeSight is available on Premium and adds important safety tech, so that trim is the one to watch if safety equipment is a priority.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2017 Subaru Impreza?

This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop carefully without feeling rushed.

• Deal availability: 31.1% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 868 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices are up 1.38% year-over-year.
• Clean inventory: 59.0% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $11,990, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2017 Subaru Impreza's resale value?

The current average of $12,680 sits slightly above last year's $12,507.

That modest increase suggests the market has held up reasonably well, which is a positive sign if you plan to sell later. A stable price trend usually means buyers still see value in the model’s standard all-wheel drive, practicality, and affordable tech.

Because the year-over-year change is only 1.38%, you should expect resale strength to come more from condition, mileage, and equipment than from rapid appreciation. Well-kept examples with desirable features should be easier to move than rougher, more basic ones.

Vehicles with solid owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.33/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2017 Subaru Impreza safe?

The 2017 Subaru Impreza is a Top Safety Pick Plus from IIHS and earns a top five-star safety rating from NHTSA.

It earns a 9/10 safety score from our experts.

EyeSight is the named driver-assistance suite, and it includes lane-departure alerts, automatic emergency braking, and adaptive cruise control. On Premium, it also comes with blind-spot detection and steering-responsive fog lights.

One caveat is that the adaptive cruise behavior has an odd flaw: if the car stays stopped for more than 3 seconds, the system turns off and the car can start to roll forward, which means you need to stay attentive in traffic.

Should I buy a 2017 Subaru Impreza or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2017 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2017 if:

• 31.1% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• At 59% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
• Price trend: Prices are up 1.38% year-over-year.
• Owners rate it 4.33/5 — a solid satisfaction signal.
• It is described as all-new, practical, affordable, and safe, with standard all-wheel drive and affordable tech.

The bottom line: If you want a used compact car with standard all-wheel drive, strong safety credentials, and useful tech, the 2017 Impreza is the primary year to target. If you are especially price-sensitive, you can still shop the market carefully for a lower-mileage, accident-free example near the low end of the range, but the 2017 stands out as the more complete and appealing choice.
